The Walther PDK... hi-cap successor to the PPS? (PDP, PPQ)
Trademarks and patents reveal that a lot has been going on behind the scenes at Walther--including a new trademark and new pistol designs. Could this "PDK" join the PDP line as the double-stack successor to the Walther PPS?

    I understand that polymer guns it’s impossible to have the same connection as metal frame because polymer doesn’t transfer any electrical impulses why they use it for insulation. What I’m trying to say holing a 1911 or beretta 92 you feel connected to the gun . Polymer guns don’t have a soul

  • @RichiesHouse

    It’s all about the parts . Barrel is strongest and rifling is the best , springs are the best designed , strongest polymer composite, look and feel a usp and the look and feel a 320 frame . People do gripe about the trigger but the factory specs have a reason . If you lighten the hammer spring a lot you increase the slide velocity and that could lead to damage or unreliability. Also People forget about cold weather hk with full cold weather gloves is still operable with the trigger guard being so large .

      100% agree. It’s shootability of the PPS that attracts me. And any new offering would have to retain that, to hold my interest-regardless of capacity. Plus, I feel the PPS’s trigger weight is a good compromise for carry, without a manual safety.

  • @ChrisKartes
    @ChrisKartes День назад

    I really do not understand what all the micro compact craze is all about. First off the 9mm cartridge is a neutered projectile it has a very low expansion rate that everyone seems to want a 2 inch barrel compensated there by taking even more of it's potential away turning it into a .380. Although the .380 is a fun gun to carry I would not depend on it to defefend my life with. However, in Europe they love it (Walther PPK).In the end who cares what you have even a slingshot with adequate shot placement can disable an attacker (David and Golith).Maybe consider the fact that biggerprojectiles provide a larger margine for error in a paniced situation. The best policy is to train, train. train with whatever you have.

    No matter how popular the P365/Hellcat/Shield category of micro sub-compacts, I just cant' get into that size. I'm strictly full size or regular compact (which is now basically considered mid size). In addition to feeling so small that they're more challenging to control, I don't think tiny pistols are as reliable. I heard rumors that the reason the HK hasn't released the SFP9 (VP9 CC) in the US is because they haven't been able to get them up to HK standards for reliability. I'm not sure if that's true but it kinda makes sense... the tinier the gun, the more cramped the internals and you still need the recoil system to handle a 9mm round with sufficient oomph to return to battery. And if anyone has sky-high standards for quality, it's HK. Good research work regarding a potential PDK! Everything you said lines up, you are a good journalist! I know that, in the past, any time I mentioned to friends that I love the Walther line (referring to P99, PPQ and PDP) they told me what they really want is a Walther sub compact to compete with the P365 and Hellcat, etc. That doesn't bother me because that's not my preference but Walther would be crazy not to get into a "PDK" or something in that vein. Great find with those patent drawings! I believe you're breaking this, I hope this gets a lot of attention, very interesting! Semi-off topic: Do you have any thoughts on the PD380? I know 380's aren't the top choice for most people but I think they're neat when they're unique or well done. The PD380 is hammer fired with a Beretta 92 style safety/decocker on the slide and my beloved paddle mag release. Something to keep an eye out for. Awesome video, cheers! 🍻

    • @HipsterTactical
      @HipsterTactical 2 дня назад

      Thanks for the thoughts, my friend! I’m more a fan of mid-sized/full size guns too… but… I was blown away by the PPS. It shoots groups that rival my P99. The thing is “match grade” tight and the ergos work wonders to stabilize the flat slab of a grip. It comes down to shootability for me; a few extra rounds isn’t gonna win me over if the thing can’t group like a PPS. As far as the PD380… it’s simply a re-skinned PK380. Both versions are actually made by Umarex, in Arnsberg, along with the P22, the CCP and some other models. The “loose consensus” is that the high quality Walthers are made in Ulm (P99, PPQ, PDP, PPS) and the more consumer-grade guns are made by Umarex in Arnsberg. So… PD380 doesn’t really interest me. Not because it’s 380… but because it’s not a true Walther. But… that’s only my opinion. Also… I don’t think the PD380’s lever decocks. But I could be wrong.

    • @roaringsteelmedia

      The PD380 only has a hammer block safety, it does NOT have a decocker. Why you would make a DA/SA pistol with a safety only instead of a decocker/safety (or even just a decocker) is beyond me. (This applies to the P22 as well as the PD380) Then call it a “duty” pistol and don’t put an optics cut on it…. In 2024. It sounds like your recoil spring is weak. The shide should decelerate before it reaches it's limit. Maybe ask your local gun Smith if he can tune it up with a heavier one.

  • @benjaminlhargrave
    @benjaminlhargrave 6 дней назад

    I have to disagree that the shorter slide would make recoil worse. The mass of the slide traveling backwards contributes to recoil, so it only makes sense that you would want a shorter, lighter slide for less recoil.

    • @HipsterTactical
      @HipsterTactical 6 дней назад

      Yeah, I realize that people often opt for shorter, lighter slides for a faster tracking pistol with less muzzle rise; more slide mass definitely kicks the muzzle up under recoil. But,I tend to think muzzle rise and felt recoil are different things... this gun actually shoots incredibly flat, but kicks like a mule. Comparatively, the P5 has a more relaxed recoil impulse, but slightly more muzzle rise--and the major difference is slide mass/length. Of course I could be wrong... I offer all of my pseudo-scientific analyses with the caveat that I have a degree in creative writing--not physics. But thanks for the comment.

    • @benjaminlhargrave
      @benjaminlhargrave 3 дня назад

      It seems that the backwards push of the bullet and slide being applied above the pivot point of your hand is what causes the gun to spin and the muzzle to rise, so they do not seem to be two seperate forces.

      I am a professional engineer, and hobbyist gunsmith, but appeal to authority is a logical fallacy, so I am open to being contradicted by children and to contradicting supposed authorities. I think what you're describing is that this gun is lighter and therefor the recoil comes on more suddenly, but the slide is lighter and therefore the recoil doesn't last as long and doesn't have the momentum of the larger, heavier gun. It may be akin to a push vs a slap. The slap is more jarring but doesn't push you off course as much.

    • @benjaminlhargrave

      The factor of weight around fwd end of the barrel would perhaps keep the barrel down IF it wasn't sliding back towards you at an incredible rate of speed as soon as the primer goes off. If you wanted the fwd extended portion around the front of the barrel to contribute to keeping the barrel down, as you suggested, then it would need to be detached from the slide and attached to the barrel instead.

      @@benjaminlhargrave Yes. “Recoil” is subjective and multifaceted. I’m a professional writer, so I’ll verbally express the physics: this P38 offers a jolty punch vs. a floaty “kerchunk”; and it offers far LESS muzzle rise, owed to the lighter, faster slide. As a point of comparison, I think a full-size Beretta 92 has a softer recoil impulse than a Beretta 92 Compact. But the lower slide mass on the compact means the gun moves less/has less muzzle rise under recoil.

    I have two P239’s. One in 9mm. One in .40S&W/357 SIG. both DAK. A couple points. I have small hands. Strong, just small. I prefer single stack. Carried 1911 for 20 years as a duty gun. I’m afraid in a fight for my gun, someone could wrest a double stack out of my hand. I simply can’t close my hand around it far enough. The P239 shoots like a duty gun. It’s tried and true. I also carry appendix. I don’t like carrying a cocked pistol pointed at my femoral artery. I like the hammer. I can put my thumb on it when I reholster. Side note. The P239 was Navy SEAL issue for covert assignments.
