They actually talked about that on stream. The line between "strategy" and "exploit" is pretty hazy, so all tricks like that have to be cleared with the admins prior to their runs. Blizzard admins determined it was valid.
In general, places where you can get yourself to are usually fine (if not completely out of bounds). Pulling mobs from areas you are not supposed to by avoiding barriers with your spells is the line that Blizzard seems to draw.
