I've heard the argument about WoW being darker in the past and its rebuttal many times. However, the Duskwood part especially proves that, while it might not have been the big and important plotlines in the forefront, grim acts and death used to be much more common in the game's storytelling. I believe that one of the best kinds of fantasy stories are those of realistic horror, just with a little fantastical garnish.
