Can we just admire how despite his massive following, he doesn't bow down to spammy advertisements. He does this out of passion and not for monetary gain. This is the epitome of RUclips.
He has been true to himself since the beginning. Can only hope for more excellence. Wish i could go on a hike w steve. But lik3 me he seems to always hike and ruck alone.
Long live Steve, the true standard bearer of OG RUclips.

@@PeruvianBanana89 Yeah, I agree: OP misused the word “epitome” - which is a perfect representative sample of something.
Steve1989 isn’t representative of what RUclips is, but rather what RUclips content creators should aspire to.
In other words, he is the pinnacle of quality.
Yeah. He has merch but I don’t think he really advertises it. And it’s really cheap too, even for me to get sent to the UK.
About 4 years ago I ended up homeless for 6 months. The shelter I stayed at gave you the option of lunch in a bag for take-out or on a tray for eating in. Every time I'd eat in, I'd say "Let's get that on a tray" and then "nice!" when it was served. A bit dark, perhaps, but it's little things like that that'll get you through the darkest times🤘
Hope you're doing better now dude
The supply warehouse at the facility where I work passed out MRE’s that were borderline “expired”. When they handed one to me I said, “Let’s get this out onto a tray”. They knew exactly who I was referencing. Hope things are better for you now.
Indeed. When I deployed to Syria, I took an official antique US Army metal tray with me. When I broke out my MRE, I’d declare “Let’s get this out on to a tray,” and someone would always say, “Nice!” A little high point to take our minds off ISIS.
Stay strong brother!
haha thats awesome, hope youre doing better
Life has changed so much over the years, it’s nice to have the stable enjoyment of these videos 👍
shelf stable enjoyment
You read my mind when I saw Steve had posted some new videos.... Thanks for the comment.
Agreed ❤
Same 😢
lets get these good vibes out onto a tray
As a Norwegian, I hope you get to try one of our army rations from ~around the late 70s to early 80s with a can of Forsvaret's RSP in it. It's short for "Reservestridsproviant" or reserve combat provisions. It's (mostly) a can of fatty beef and pork with peas. Because of its appearance, it gained hilarious nicknames when it was still a common part of our army's combat rations, such as "Rester av Sprengt Personell" (remains of exploded personnel), "Resirkulert personell" (recycled personnel), "Tysker på boks" (German in a can), and the most common one, "Død mann på boks" (Dead man in a can).
So... Corpse-starch?
@@LuLe232 With full-body flavor
@@HotmodCanada😅
Sandefjordpaintball no has a few in store.
My dad - the child of Norwegian immigrant farmers in the Midwest - died the day before this posted. He was a bastion of love and support to everyone around him. The timing of this was exactly what I needed - thank you, Steve.
I'm sorry for your loss, I'm sure the love you had for him comforted him in his final days. May he rest in peace.
My family is also from norway simps a generation or two back . May I please say what fine words you had to say about your father And I think that bears witness to the probably the kind of son you are. Please accept my profound sympathies for the loss of your beloved father.
So sorry for your loss.
Been watching you for 9 years, Steve. Through the good and bad of life, you getting the sicks and having your time away. Thanks for still doing this bud, you've made an impact in this guys life
Totally agree! Same here...had some really tough times and always found some enjoyment by only watching a guy who is trying to find out how old an ration must be to get killed 😀
Same, few things calm my nerves after a rough day like Steve getting it out onto tray. Mkay, nice...
og viewers unite!
Ah- Mazin
Nice. Super comforting videos. Yeah, alright cool.
This man has been making the same video, the same way, with the same quality, for the past 9 years, without changing a single thing about it, not his camera, nos his audio, not his voice, not his personality, nothing changed whatsoever, and still I come to watch every single video without fail. Steve is a legend.
He got the formula right first time! 😊
That’s why we keep coming back, I guess.
They are good videos
Nah I remember when he started adding the spoon jingle music edits and everyone loved them so he kept doing it
As a Norwegian myself it gives me not a small amount of pride to watch you enjoy this ration Steve!
Hilsen fra Texas.
Thanks for the double upload, Steve! Hope you’re having a wonderful evening and that it carries on into the weekend ❤ Much Love
nice!
I've had just a miserable week man. Work has been terrible and my mental health has been shot.
But at least I have some new Steve videos to watch.
I love when he explains the chemicals and ingredients while chowing down. He’s like, “hydrochloric acid titanium nitrate oxide, mmmm gives this thing a nice tang.” 😂
He went all food scientist on us 😮😂
Find yourself someone who loves you like Steve loves a bag with a gusset
i am a bag with a gusset
@@Cereal.interfaceSteve is already taken. The rations are his one and only😂
@@michaellazor2659 who is going to cover my cod with creamy curry?
... and says "nice hiss" before laying you out on a tray.
This comment is honestly golden 😂
Let’s get this out onto a tray
mkay, nice!
nice!
Nice
Nice
nice
I have a hard time watching other MRE reviews, you are not annoying, no music , no background, just pure beauty in my mental veins!
He always shows up when the world needs him most
Yes..at least when I need him most
Steve spanking the cod pouch was something I didn’t know I needed in my life 😂
Wow Steve! Thank you for the shout out at the end of the video! It is kind of like a garage band getting a shout out from Aerosmith.
You sir are the original! Be well and thank you!
I really appreciate these videos. There helping me while I go through a difficult and undiagnosed illness. They make me smile and I learn so much.
Thank you for the always so good and so calming videos , good to have one RUclipsr that has stayed the same !
Hey thanks man
YAY! My favorite time of the season! Steve is back!
nice!
I've been watching your MRE videos before bed for the last seven years. I really hope this series doesn't end too soon.
I recently started a new role that involves coordinating mapping in the field during fire suppression. The Palisades Fire was my first taste of a multiweek incident. After working 12-hour shifts on the line for weeks at a time, I have a new understanding of what an MRE represents after years of watching this channel and occasionally backpacking. Finding out what goodies were in the in the line lunch was a highlight of any given day. Knowing someone had taken the time to assemble high quality and plentiful lunches for everyone, and putting clear effort into the meals at the field kitchen at base camp not only filled a physical need, but I was surprised at how something so simple made me feel like what I was appreciated, and that I had support behind me I could rely on.
As someone who really only dealt with MREs and similar from a backpacking perspective before, it was really eye opening what a good meal could mean under stress beyond meeting nutritional needs in comforting way.
I finally found these trays at an army navy store about a month ago and their dated 1943!!
nice!
I remember about 8 or so years ago having a girl over to my place and I had just discovered Steve so I started binge watching most of his videos. The girl asked me what I was watching and I said "some dude reviewing military food, it's kinda cool" 8 years later and you're still one of the few youtubers I watch absolutely everything they upload. Nice!
Thanks, my eye is all messed up, tore my cornea bad, I appreciate the nice calm videos dude, you're always there when I need to reset.
My new coworker loves you too!!! OMG. I said ''nice hiss'' and he caught the reference lollllll Thanks for the update, sir!
Thank you for turning my day around
Hey Austin take care dude!
I’m totally living vicariously through watching this obviously gourmet meal being consumed. Like a dream meal in shelf stable format! Good video.
A smile is on my face straight after “let’s get it out onto a tray”.
Everlasting Cod-Stopper?! Niceee!
-As always… I’m lovin’ the video Buh….uuhddy!!
I am sitting here eating a med-rare grilled sirloin steak with cilantro-lime rice and garlic butter green beans. Gonna hop my gusset on over to the 2nd video you uploaded of the Indonesian ration after this one! Much love my dude!,,!,
Everlasting Cod-stopper? That was the name of my cover band in high school!😎
Cod actually sounds good to me right now. I have some cod fillets in the freezer. Maybe I should stick them in the fridge tonight, and have them tomorrow.
for the first time in my life i bulk bought a load of surplus mod british army rations. they're actually really nice and filling.
steve you're a legend for inspiring ppl and helping ppl in ways you'll probably never truly appreciate.
it's nice to have consistency and familiarity in one's life
Steve gets a flat tire
"Aw man but thats a nice hiss right there"
“Nothing I can’t fix with my polyurethane retorque pouch”
nice!
*Steve encounters a xenomorph*
- "Nice hiss"
That tire could use a gusset
As a nordic, I'm fairly certain the wrap is intended to be heated if possible, I think most of us would rather toss it than eat it cold. Thanks Steve for the double upload! ^^
We had to let our doggo pass on today. I really appreciate the mental break your videos provide. Never change, Steve.
Sorry for your loss friend, please take care, we’ll be with you in the next videos. Stay positive!
rest in peace, sweet puppy.
I'm sorry for your loss. Losing a pet/your child.. is so difficult.
Im happy you leave no food to waste! Great vids, love all the different MRE from around the world, if i could only eat those every day i would
What a great way to end the work week, with two steve1989MREInfo videos!
A delectable upload. There's a gusset, a little hiss, a tiny little tune played on the spoon AND a gourmet edit on the drink mix being shaken up.
Nice.
Great video as always. Has Steve ever done a video building his perfect ration? All his favorites from every ration he's ever had.
I watch plenty of MRE videos, Steve here does it the best.
Watched every one of them and all are entertaining and educational. Thanks Steve, keep up the great work!
Let's get this out on a tray!! Thank you, Steve!
nice!
alright cool, see ya
I am having a rough time right now. The little spoon music you make brought me some much need comfort. Thank you
hell yeah steve, i just bought a 10 pack of british army 24 hour rations, all 10 menus, super hyped
*NICE!*
Better get them out onto a tray
how much did that cost
@@danieldorn2927 £110 bud
@@danieldorn2927 can't tell if my last comment was deleted so just incase, it cost me £110 :)
My dad was in charge of the commissary and bought home rations regularly, spent my youth eating them, awesome stuff dude. Thanks for the nostalgia bro.🖖
You know when Steve is about to crack into some Scandinavian rations, it’s going to be absolute cuisine.
The Reindeer casserole is something I desire to taste.
I was literally thinking when we’d see new uploads from Steve. To my surprise, I opened RUclips up to a double upload from Steve. What a great end to the work week.
Thanks Steve
Nice
alright cool, see ya!
I always wait for the "nice" to speak along and hit the like button while I chuckle to myself :D
I had a Norwegian ARF as a hotel room dinner a few months back. Excellent food, very tasty, and in a quantity i couldn't hope to finish in one sitting.
I swear every time I feel a bit down in the dumps I wake up and Steve has uploaded, something he ate must have given him the sight
Steve : "Low density polyethylene bag"
The rest of us : "plastic bag"
Life may be bleak atm, but you know what isnt? Steve's enthusiasm and excitement for these rations, always nice to see
In moments of need, we get MRESteve!!!
Steve’s powers of description and range of vocabulary are second to none. Truly…
The cod main is reminiscent of a diner - raisins smell of honey. Protein bar has the aroma of a fresh blueberry muffin - the isotonic drink exudes essence of lemon candy. The coffee is top-grade and isn’t “chemmy” - the stuffed tortilla has the feel of soft car upholstery. And the chocolate has floral notes and is of gourmet quality.
Observations about the caloric content, ingredient lists, and preservation properties of each food item are consistently reported.
Always fully present and engaging, Steve1989 is the consummate dinner host!!! 🍽️
I've been watching these videos for years.. and i just realized I'm basically been watching mukbangs...
We love you for staying true to YOU, Steve. Seriously, we thank you so much for not changing due to getting more popularity etc.
we love you brotha!
Very nice report. 🤗
You mentioned Raisinets which were among my favorite candies when I was a kid growing up in Brooklyn. Whenever I went to the movies, I just had to buy a small package of that in order to enhance my enjoyment of the movie.
Catching an upload from Steve at only 44 seconds after upload is a truly surreal experience
I caught the other one at 12 seconds but was the 30th comment
Those Real turmat freeze dried meals are generally pretty good. I tend to eat a lot of them on my longer hikes out in the mountains. Always love your videos, dude!
Haven't watched Steve's videos in a while. Nice to see him eating something not 40 years old.
Exceptional descriptions of the flavors, I swear my friend, I can taste every bite. Thank you for your high quality content 👍🏼👍🏼
Nice! Hope we never lose Steve's passion for this. So we can all get old together watching
I'm going through a lot right now, your videos have been really helping me chill out and also reminding me to eat. Cheers o/
Just what I needed to cheer myself up on the birthday. ❤
You are my man. I always eat my food while watching you trying out all those MREs. Keep up the good work :)
Video so fresh you know it's gonna have a nice hiss
Thanks for keeping us entertained Steve, have a great weekend!
That is a well balanced meal. Nice! Take notes American MRE manufacturers they have COFFEE.
Exactly!
Hi Steve. Leah and her students have been watching your videos on older rations in class. While studying the Vietnam era of the military. Her students were fascinated by your reviews.
14:20 sideburns are looking nice
Steve is the hero we need, but don't deserve. He's out there... eating rations so we don't have to.
right when i need him most 💕😊
nice
Love the fact Steve is posting videos often! Great seeing your content
January has been a year already, and this just made my day better.
Ive tried watching similar videos to this Steve, But yours are simply The best!
Watching these while wearing headphones, it feels like Steve is right behind me talking into my ears while his arms reach in front of me and show me what he's talking about.
He's the Patrick Swayze to our Demi Moore
Nice!
Hot
When he takes a bite I like to imagine he’s feeding me
Wow this got pretty weird, pretty fast...I like it!
I normally don't comment but I just wanted to thank you for doing what you do over the past couple of years :)
Those Norwegians gave you a Tamale Steve 😊
This channel is nice. Me and my mom watch his uploads together a lot
I hope we see more YUGOSLAVIAN rations or Balakan in general old and new ❤
😂" Twilight Zone Version of an LRP "is the most direct and complete description! Some serious Pavlovian conditioning went into me being able to taste it from the words alone.
Always appreciate the uploads
Hey man I appreciate you stopping by
Recently randomly watched another Steve on RUclips who does Stealth camping and he seems like a really chill guy too. Are Steve's just chill as hell?
Step 2, bud
@pablopablo3834, You're talking about Steve Wallis, "Camping with Steve." Yeah, both these dudes are chill 👍🏿
Hunker down
I should be going to bed but instead I'm going to be up for at least 37:07 more minutes watching Steve reviewing MRE's...Nice!
Thanks Steve! It's always a pleasure to see a new video.
Steve double features = happy day.
I love it that when Steve posts vids, it's usually a 2-for-1 on the same day!
Cheers!
(BTW, the Scandinavian nation's rations usually seem to be about the best... I had one once, and it had cod, too, and it was just a whole different thing from U.S MREs and Canadian IRPs, and better! ...even though I'm still a bit traumatized from being made to eat lutefisk when I was a kid.)
It's a proud moment to watch your video uploaded only minutes ago 😊
Right on man I hope you have a great night!
Glory be, The Steve has posted!🙏
Steve!!! Man you really got to start selling merch!!! I swear I would buy it all
He has merch, link is in the description
@ omggggg I didn’t know that!!!! Thank you!!!!
watcher for years, ty for sharing your hobby all those years ago!
Thank god for Steve!
Any day with a Steve video is a nice day
Steve is an absolute freaking UNIT DUDE! The girth of his whole arm, christ!
Massive mound of beauty
Can't skip gym. Definitely need to stay healthy with those preservatives from all MREs he ate.
I can never get over the modified spoon taps
Nice.
Nice.
Steve tastes good freeze-dried coffee... "That's probably the best freeze dried coffee I've had"....
That doesn't look too bad at all, I'd eat it for sure. I love the adjectives you use to describe the properties of each component; it helps imagine what they taste like.
Big Steve! Hopefully no lutefisk in that...
Hey San! Oh geez I'm guessing that's a type of catfish!
@Steve1989MRE it's a very smelly fermented herring from Norway I believe.... Very....acquired taste
@@Steve1989MRE Lutfisk is a dish made from lye treated Långa (Molva Molva), a Cod related (same order) fish. Huge quantities could be seen splayed open and hung to dry on outdoors open air racks along the Norwegian coast.
Lutfisk is a traditional, but these days not very appreciated (pretty much some love it and the majority hate it thing), part of the Swedish Julbord (Christmas buffet)
As to fermented herring that is Surströmming and majorly on the mid/northern swedish East coast, as it's made on a herring variant living in the less salty water. Herring is normally "sill" in Swedish, but this variant is called "strömming"
Norway has a similar dish (fermented fish) called Rakfisk, but that's usually based on other species of fish.
