    Instead of reinforcing with a sample, I like to Parallel process a compressed version of the same kick. I also do this with the snare. Mainly for personal projects. I plan to waste a couple hours playing with the reverb idea tonight.

      @@joeymusic People who say it's wrong probably assume the drums are recorded in a great sounding room with additional room mics.

    Thank you very much, most of youtubers said don't use reverb on a kick drum, dont make kick stereo)) but only with reverb kick starts sound professionally!!

    As a guitar player, I’ll never get tired of drum videos since it’s not necessarily my forte. I liked the bit about clipping a lot but am curious as to how clipping might differ in this scenario as opposed to using some form of saturation like saturn or a decapitator? Great video man.

    • @alesnovak2906
      @alesnovak2906 2 года назад +2

      Saturation is adding harmonics(wave forms are still rounded).Clipping is shaving the wave forms so you have a flat lines on transients.

    • @omnomaly7458
      @omnomaly7458 3 года назад +18

      Scooping the mids in the kick will give room for the guitar and bass to fill out the rest of the mix!

    • @justinfeldermusic
      @justinfeldermusic 3 года назад +8

      I like cutting a little narrower so the 1k stays intact. - On some kicks this is nice but sometimes it is too honky/basketbally. Usually Joey's way is great for a full mix ;)

    • @michaeldelacruz6370
      @michaeldelacruz6370 3 года назад +3

      Well I mean it all depends on the kick recording or the sample.
      Like this advice here is just a rule.of thumb but at the end of the day the exact eq moves on here only apply to this specific kick.
      The idea is that your kick should have punchier lows, not much mids (but still some mids) & enough high end to cut through the mix, but the thing is you gotta determine where to cut or boost to get this result on your sounds on this specific genre.

    For that first kick sound, you are cutting the frequency already lacking midrange.

      @russbradshawmusic 3 года назад +1

      Apparently that's a popular thing

    • @joeymusic
      @joeymusic  3 года назад +4

      This video is about huge kicks. The context is that and only that. It’s not about how to work with kick drums in general. Mid range information is different in every scenario - but for huge kicks? Reduce the mids and boost the lows and highs. That’s the basis.
