Having a good snare sound to begin with, like in this case, definitely helps. In my opinion the snare sounded good even without any compression. EQ alone sometimes goes a long way. But I do enjoy how you embellished it even more with those pluggings.

I don’t have rbass. I make a copy of the main snare. High pass then boost whatever low mids I’m trying to get maybe 200ish. Some saturation of distortion and boom thick snare.

The thing I take away from these videos, and is waaaaaaayyyy more important to me than the technique is HOW you listen to things! That's valuable! Thanks Mendel! Oh, and question, when you like find that "sonar thing" in the mids, you Q up and drag up to that specific frequency and then manually pull it down. Why not use the parameter knob and keep the frequency exact? Or do you use the CTRL key?
That would work better indeed, I just forget it everytime. I still do ctrl + t to change bpm vs just typing it in lower right.

Yes, that's it. To see and of course to hear is the real thing about it. Usually i did it the way like Mendel did, 10 years ago :D try and error but this is most of the time shit :D this channel helps a lot more than browsing meaninglessly through frequencies!

Very helpful, thanks! One question; Are you adjusting any pitch in either the snare or the sample? I've seen some people literally 'tuning' their snares to match the key of the song. Since I'm not a drummer I don't have any idea about tuning snares or toms. Do you think stuff like that matters in a digital setup and for metal with let's say Superior Drummer? Cheers.

Past years it’s mainly room samples on the snare and reverb on Toms. Can’t tell yet what room sample it is :)!

Man, it's cool and stuff but not in to-depths. I see that you're using Slate Trigger 2 to reinforce your midi snare with some "raw/real" sample, but you never said what drum library you're using for basic drum sound. Why? :)
Because it doesn't really matter what library you use regarding the subject of the video, but I use Metal Machinery SDX and will make some presets soon :)!

doesn't look like your converting your drum midi to audio files - just routing the audio to separate tracks is not the way to do it - convert the entire drum track from midi to audio files then start your mixing - most drum software has that feature
as someone who is only just beginning to figure out how to properly mix drum tracks, I am genuinely interested to know what exactly converting midi tracks to audio tracks accomplishes so I can hopefully make better mixes in the future
@@JBshredsit only reduces the load on your cpu.
It doesn't do anything technically for your mix. The theory is 2 fold, 1. You're committing to a sound.
2. Significantly reduce CPU/memory load
