    Stains point, and philosophy is that he finds it disgusting that people are called or referred to or call themselves “”heroes”” when really they are just getting paid to do a job. He thinks that true heroism and true heroes are people who act out of selflessness without reward, or expectation of recognition, basically, if you’re not the truest form of a hero, you’re not only not a hero at all your blasphemous for even trying to claim the title and he wants to punish them for it.
    And that’s why I think he’s such a good villain, because the best villains are the ones that have some degree of a point, but you just disagree with their methods /actions

      The best villains are the ones whose very existence is a critique of society, which is probably the best part about Boku no Hero Academia. Personally, I prefer One Punch Man for this a bit more, I guess 'cause I'm a bit of a pessimist about the roll of the state and it's relation to capital (OPM spends more time contemplating the relationship between wealthy sponsors and the central hero organization), but BnHA is still cut from similar cloth and very good for it!

    If you think about it, the kids got really, really lucky in this episode. Stain is mostly trained in doing quick strikes, not long drawn out battles. And even then, he still did a fair amount of damage to them while trying not to kill Izuku because he recognized him as a true hero. He was at a massive disadvantage. And even when the Nomu came and he had a chance to escape and run off, he decided to save Deku because he recognized him as a true hero. Stain is a very compelling character. What he's saying isn't exactly wrong. Heroes shouldn't be trying to become heroes for vanity or glory. But rather to help people. Because if your society is full of nothing but shallow heroes, they'll all flee when a true threat approaches. However, I also don't think being a hero to save people has to be their ONLY reason. For example, Uraraka wants to be a hero to get money. Seems selfish on the surface, until you learn that she actually wants to help her family. So the situation isn't exactly black and white. And that's where Stain pushes things to the extreme. He sees things from a mostly black and white perspective. Amazing and compelling character though.

    • @Vexizz
      @Vexizz Год назад +16

      This is why I really would have liked Uraraka to be involved in this fight. It would have been really cool to have that clash where Stains black and white world view shakes somewhat against Uraraka’s own view of heroism. He likely wouldn’t see her as a true hero, but it would be cool to find some way to show him reacting to a quite noble goal that looks selfish on the surface. Also if pulled off correctly they could probably have kept Todoroki being involved in the battle as well, and it would have sold the idea that true dangerous villains are far above our main characters and they have a long way to grow. Imagine how intimidating it would have been seeing Stain fight off 4 UA Students at once, even if Uraraka would be a mostly supportive role it would be nonetheless an incredible display of his skill.

    • @robertcampbell8070
      @robertcampbell8070 Год назад +12

      And that's the problem with his philosophy. It's far too black and white. Uraraka would have been deemed not a true hero by Stain but she became a hero who wants to protect other heroes. Mt. Lady definitely would have been killed by Stain, but she's one of the few that stuck around and had frankly put in more work than almost anyone.

    FYI, Alicia, this aura of fear is what anime, manga and asian media in general usually calls "Bloodlust", "Killing intent", "Aura", "Presence" or "Haki". It's pretty common in shounen anime. Usually, it's just the presence of a strong willed person, but sometimes anime turn it into part of a power system, Like Conqueror's Haki in [Spoiler] (Anime), The Aura of Domination in Trash of the Count's Family (Light Novel), or "Dark Determination" in JoJo part 7: Steel Ball Run (Manga). Most character can subconsciously feel it, but in some anime, there are people that can precisely detect it, usually strong people.

    Part of Stain's intimidation at the end that couldn't really be shown in the anime was the fact that his nose had been cut off - insinuated to be by his own blade - he had just jumped up and slew that Nomu from being believed to be incapacitated, and because of how intense his ideals of there being too many "fake" heroes. Those who do it for the money, the clout, or any reason other than "it's the right thing to do" and "trying to save people". From Stain's perspective, there were too many of these fakes around, and in order to reorganize hero society, the fakes needed to be weeded out. The intensity of those ideals, paired with him catching everyone off-guard and killing another villain (which some thought was to save Midoriya) in such quick succession took everyone off-guard, even the experienced Gran Torino and #2 hero Endeavor.

    1) Everyone hated Endeavor, but admited he IS an amazing hero (skill wise). So it became more conflicting whatto think about him.
    2) Stain conviction to his ideal pushing him through to not kill and save who he think its worthy, even going full gas against a huge group of heroes + Endeavor made him (probably until today) most watchers favorite's villain.

    Shoto isn't the only one who comes from a family of pros, but Iida has a much healthier background, even if it is rather concerning how he and Tenya both treat hero work as a foregone conclusion.
    Way to step up Iida, but don't forget what separates heroes from villains. Teamwork. Sure, there are other things, but right now a team up is the lesson of the day.
    3 first years. Stain is a light weight who has ambushed and been underestimated.
    Endeavor comes up so very short as a family man, but he is undeniably effective in the field.
    Torino's still got it. And the jet power is generated by his feet.
    Melting footholds into a wall to pull off a mid air fire javelin head shot. Endeavor isn't a great person, but this shows us how he got the number 2 spot.
    Stain thinks Deku is worthy. For however much or little his opinion is worth, he acknowledged him as being in a category with All Might.
    Endeavor recognizes Stain by costume and reputation, not the face. The mask falling down is just to show his raw emotion.
    What you're looking at is artsy hype. Stain is feared more than he should be. He is managing to scare this crowd of heroes despite more than enough power to pound him flat and enough skill to haul him off.

    The blood type being on the mid roll cards is not just because of Stain's quirk. For whatever reason Japan and some other eastern cultures use blood type like astrology signs. It's just about as vague as astrology, too. It's pretty common for character introductions and profiles to include the blood type in general, so the inclusion in this show would raise less eyebrows for native Japanese than for the international audience and it completely flew under the radar for us.

    Stain is a real beast. Think about it, his quirk is solely to paralyze people. With anyone who isn't paralyzed, he might as well be quirkless, with all of his fighting ability coming from muscles, training and experience.
    And even so, he was able to keep up with Deku, Shoto and Iida, all of whom have pretty powerful, very combat-attuned quirks, at the same time, without any support items! And at least at the start of the fight, he was clearly not giving it his all.
    If it had been a one-on-one, I'm absolutely certain Stain could have taken them down efforlessly, without even using his quirk.
    If you ever needed proof that even a quirkless can be a hero, or villain, look no further than Stain. Imagine if someone with combat skills equal to Stain (but without quirk) was decked out with a couple of Hatsumei's babies or something like that...
    That at the end was just a visual representation of how overpowering Stain's presence and bloodlust felt to the characters. It was not any power or something... just sheer willpower and intimidation, so strong the others could feel it.
    There are fan theories going around, that the flying Nomu, who grabbed Deku, used to be one of his class-mates, one of the two who always hung on Bakugo's coat tails and that's why out of the group, he singled out Deku to grab. As far as I know, there's never been any official word on it, but it would fit... and be pretty dark.

His wings are very similar to one of the kids that along with Kacchan in episode one were bulling a random kid and Deku (because he was protecting that kid). After a lot of fans asked the creator why the flying Nomu singled out Deku out of the crowd and took him he released an extra panel in the manga that was just about addressing this question and responded with "here's something of an oblique hint" and a drawing of that boy. Basically saying that boy grew up to be experimented on and eventually become a part or the base of this Nomu and with the remaining consciousness recognized Deku and just grabbed him. A lot of people criticize MHA's story for being too bright and happy, but if you look deeper shit get dark. I haven't caught up to the show for some seasons now, but I hear it gets it gets heavy.

A bit of an interesting thing in this episode: the heroes make a big deal of the fact that Stain straight-up killed the flying Nomu. Even though it's monstrous, it's still a person in their eyes. However, what they gloss over and doesn't really get mentioned until much, much later is that Endeavor also straight-up murdered the eyeless Nomu. Even for him, that's a harsh move, and he makes that judgment call in an instant. He's somewhat of a different breed of hero, undeniably effective but not necessarily the sort you'd celebrate.

    @joohoneybun 7 месяцев назад

    regarding the blood type thing, that's just because japan likes to keep track of that stuff and base people off of them. "ah you're acting like this you must be blood type x" etc. lol. asia in general tends to care about that kinda thing whereas in the west we generally don't care, because we know it's silly to judge people on blood types. that'd be like judging someone for being a leo or something. it's not a legitimate and reliable source to base someone's personality off of.

    Hey Alicia! On the off chance you see this, here's some food for thought on that winged noumu that snatched up Deku at the end and why it went straight for him; Remember that one kid with wings from the very beginning of the first episode? There's a reason he wasn't with the other Bakugou cronies later.

    so here is a disturbing fact and this not a spoiler as it is never actually mention in the anime nor the manga, we have actually already met that flying nomu, or at least who he was before. If you remember back to episode 1, one of bakugo's friends was a kid with bat wings, just like this nomu, and it was then confirmed by the author that the flying nomu was indeed the same kid from Deku, and Bakugo's past. Also in that first episode you notice the guy with stretchy body is still there, but you don't ever see the other kid with the wings.

    The flashback here with Tenya and his brother is where it becomes really obvious that Tenya is _probably_ autistic.
    Weird character trait of doing robotic motions with his hands when verbalizing something, always taking things literally at first instead of parsing metaphors AS metaphors, being a stickler for rules, overly fixating on certain emotions.

  • @spadeas49

    Stain is a good lesson that you don't need 15 chapters or 6 episodes of backstory to make a good villain, give him a good reason, very gray, classy design and be the one to move on to action and saving someone when the "heroes" are too slow.
    That immediately makes him a character that we want to understand and that has an impact.
    Even if that's not all that has built Stain up to now, that's ultimately what matters in the image we have of him.

    • @davidwilson6577
      @davidwilson6577 Год назад

      Well, almost every piece of worldbuilding and character work so far plays into Stain. Also, going forward. Stain is such a good villain because he is a consequence of the world, the groundwork was being laid out from chapter 1. I know you lampshaded it by saying "that's not all that has built up Stain", but yes that is the important stuff. Without it the 'good reason' part would be impossible, you'd be left with an edgy, confusing mess.

    • @spadeas49
      @spadeas49 Год назад

      @@davidwilson6577 I said it mostly because there is a construction to the anticipation. When we first hear about Stain it's in a news report if I remember, he is still abstract at this time. Then he hurt Ingenium and suddenly the treat become more real. We finaly meet him with Shigaraki and see his pov then Lida meet him ect ect. It's a classic construction but one that work well. But, I agree with you on the "the society made him", because that a recurring theme in MHA, but we need to let Alicia discovering that by herself now 😊.

    And this 2 episode show one of my favorite characters, Satin he is wrong? yes but fully and toatlly not really, yeah he might be to extreme with his ideology, but he want to make a world where only actual heros exist, just people like you will think as superman to put a known example that do the good because it is good, no bigger reason. But he fails in recognice that the world is not just balck and white there are peoplpe like Uraraka that want money, but for a very good reason helping her family live a comfy life, there are others that you see later on or are in the spin off "Vigilantes" that are in it for fame but it is for a reason. Also the thing I desagree even more is his idea that peop0le do not change, wich is absolutly wrong some do not but there is a chance for that.
    One more thing Alicia if you read this message, do all your jokes be they good or cringeworthy bad, if they make you happy that is important I am the same in my group of friends I make jokes taht can be either really good or make evcertone look at me like "Please shut up" jaja.

      probaby because he didn't know anything about todoroki and also likely cause he recognised him as endeavour's son and if sohe was probably like "ah the son is just like the father, gotta kill him"
      What makes stain a villain is that his standards are TOO high. The moment you don't reach his lofty standards, he stabs ya.

    • @Youalrightboi
      @Youalrightboi Год назад

      @@sarafontanini7051 he didn't know anything about deku either . Shigaraki wanting him has nothing to do with stain considering him as true hero. Also he doesn't care whose son one is , shoto showed no qualities for him instead he showed the opposite.

    • @davidwilson6577
      @davidwilson6577 Год назад +1

      He didn't say Shoto was a fake. He only ever praised him for the way he acted ("You're good, too", "You've got good friends, Ingenium's brother"), except that he focused too much on his quirk. He was too weak. Midoriya impressed him with his attitude, his analysing and adapting during the fight, and his strength. Shoto barely scraped by with every engagement. In the anime his slash looks much more like a killing blow than it does in the manga, where it's aimed at his left shoulder.
      Remember, he said to Deku "I have a duty to kill these men. If you butt in, the weaker will be culled". He came after Shoto with the same attitude.
