    You gotta respect Stain for not only deeming Deku worthy of living, but going as far as saving him, which implies that he feels the world needs Deku, and people like him.

      Daniel Salgado I also like how Endeavor has respect for Gran Torino at least in the sub. Dub makes Endeavor look like more of an asshole. He’s still a good hero he’s just not perfect. He’s learning and he will change I hope thanks to Shoto

      Daniel Salgado He also said “I’m relying on you” to the other heroes. I wish they mentioned things like that in the dub. Endeavor has some good in him. I think he will regret what’s happened to his wife/son/family. He was obsessed with being the best and that blinded him.

    Yes, Endeavor does have to cool himself down if he gets into an extended fight, like Shoto needing to thaw after using his ice. That's why Shoto is the perfect child, able to solve both limitations by having both ice and fire.

      Yeah its also a real thing to some degree. You ever try to deal with someone who will genuinely kill you or is otherwise not great mentally? You pick it up through body language and all sorts of other things and you feel it. This is just a dramatized version for effect and since we can't feel that ourselves. Its a visual and auditory medium.

    Yeah, if you compare Todoroki to Endeavor, you can tell Shouto's not really putting as much focus on physical training and hand-to-hand as much as he probably could. Endeavor uses his fire for range, sure, but he's also built like a truck and can put up a damn good fight with just his fists. Todoroki throws out a kick or a punch every now and then, but he seems to prefer just blasting out large scale attacks of frost and flames.

    • @amity4600
      @amity4600 6 лет назад +67

      i think wolf means pure physical combat without using his powers. todoroki hasn't really shown any impressive feats without his power. although it is implied hes physically stronger than most class 1a students

    • @Merilirem
      @Merilirem 6 лет назад +49

      The problem isn't that he doesn't know how to fight, its that he relies too much on his quirk. He focuses too much on it when he should be focused on victory and using all his tools. Its like if you have a gun and focus too much on using it instead of everything else you have. At certain ranges for instance guns can lose meaning. Usually very close ranges. Still good but alot better at range where your enemy can't beat you up with his fists.

    • @Yal_Rathol
      @Yal_Rathol 6 лет назад +12

      the problem is that todoroki is essentially an engineered bio weapon that's been emotionally scarred. he shows off some of his more impressive techniques during the festival, particularly during the race, but when you're born with power to rival a demigod, why move?
      SPOILERS:
      you see this same kind of attitude in all for one, where he just either floats there, damn near stationary or he's moving just enough to hit his opponent.

    • @JakeRaymond7
      @JakeRaymond7 6 лет назад +17

      Endeavor doesn't spam abilities nonstop because he will overheat so he HAS to be good at close range. Shoto may not need to learn hand to hand since he doesn't have that problem.

    • @sandmand4036
      @sandmand4036 6 лет назад +18

      He's still young and I feel like him and Endeavor has been putting most attention on Shoto's quirk control as a first priority because even though hand to hand and being physically strong are important, quirk control comes first. So now that he has decent control on his quirk I think he'll definitely start training himself more physically.

    Stain's standards for heroes are very, VERY high. Tensei Iida may have seemed like a pretty good guy in general, but it's worth noting that his motive for being a hero was basically "Well it's the family business and I gotta make a living. Plus helping people is pretty good too." To us, that sounds like he's a pretty damn good person, and a perfectly reasonable motivation to be a hero. But for Stain, it's likely that basically any motive outside of a pure selfless desire to help others is "unworthy" since he's so much of a radical. That, combined with Tensei getting the drop on him while he was killing someone else, probably sealed the fate of Ingenium 1.

    Just to clarify and because the anime will never address this, Endeavor and Stain don't know each other, it just that to Stain Endeavor would be the epitome of the false heroes that he wants to purge and to Endeavor Stain is this big victory price that he can get and add to his win strike in his search of becoming the Nº1 hero.
    If I remember correctly Stain cut his nose himself in his early days after a Vigilante named Knuckleduster punched him so hard in the face that destroyed his nose.

    From a cinematic standpoint, this show, and especially this episode, is amazing. I've seen very little mainstream anime that actually pays attention to its camera-shots the way that MHA has, and even fewer that has been written so tightly and with such competence: there is hardly ANY filler, and hardly anything that doesn't come back in some way. (So when they DO do filler, to me it feels pretty earned.)
    That said, this episode is great for another, very smart - and surprisingly subtle - reason that a lot viewers will probably miss. If you noticed, Endeavor's debut is literally shot like porn: lots of low angle shots, close-ups, focusing on his chest and muscles, heavy shadowing, and most importantly, his face and eyes. This is from his point of view; this is *how Endeavor sees himself.* This is how the populace, and even we the viewers, are seeing him, too. He's just so goddamn cool that even you forget about all the horrible things he's done (which is absolutely truth in real life, too. R. Kelly can piss on as many underage girls as he wants so long as he keeps flashing his cash, looking cool, and turning out hit albums). HOWEVER, when Stain stands his ground and goes into his tirade, we are suddenly shifted into nothing but side-shots...and in Endeavor's side-shot, he's retreating in fear and uncertainty. Frontal shots are used to show how a character sees himself...but side-shots are used to show *how/who a character really is.*

    • @Merilirem
      @Merilirem 6 лет назад +17

      Yeah the filler is an improvement in my opinion. I would love more tbh since plenty of cool stuff goes on that we just don't have time to see in the manga. Its not made up just to fill space but rather as an explanation of events that the manga mentions in passing or to remind us as the viewers of things and drive them home.
      I would actually be kind of disappointing if we didn't get more filler. I would like atleast 1 filler episode worth of content per season.

      its a anime that takes breaks thats why and they let the manga get a nice head start before the anime started ...that helps but it sadly means less animation cause the people working on the show have to take breaks which isn't normal in anime...fillers are there to keep employees and pay then.....thus less animation cause the better ones wont work on a show that isn't year round like say one piece...it is what it is...

    • @Merilirem
      @Merilirem 6 лет назад

      I felt it fit fine. Just because people thought he would sound different doesn't mean the casting was wrong. My interpretation of stain as a manga reader was of a kinda bedraggled raspy voiced Aizawa. The voice acting was great.
      Its a matter of opinion. The dub did a fine job but i still think that like most english VA's they lack something important in the realism or intensity department. Im not some fanboy weaboo or anything, i can just tell the difference.
      Most english voice actors have always sounded like actors rather than people speaking. People do it in real life too, americans and showboaters typically. It just sounds like your trying to be something rather than succeeding at the voice.
      For the clearest example just look up bad acting in general. An easy way is to search for porn audio since thats notoriously bad with all its cheesy lines. I am of course not saying its the same thing, but the problem is the same, likely for the same reason.
      Maybe they just don't know how to get into it. I mean there are plenty of english speaking actors who can do voices and change roles so its certainly possible.

    One of the things that I love about this anime is how perfectly they all flow together especially in their fight scenes, and the scene when Endeavor fights the Nomus highlights these perfectly. It's incredible how they sync the punches, the camera cuts, the Nomu falling, the Nomu's wing flapping, Endeavor's flame activation and spear throw, heck even the changing the color of the flames to blue all to the beats of the OST "Just Another Hero." I feel like the total sound design isn't appreciated enough.

  • @kylehahn4410
    @kylehahn4410 6 лет назад +83

    Stain is against any compensation of heroism, as heroics for him is about self-sacrifice. All Might is alright because he's dedicated his very existence to making society a better place as the "Symbol of Peace", and Deku and Shouto are inspired by All Might's heroism so Stain likely recognizes them because of that. In Stain's view, unless you're a hero for the pure purpose of doing good, if your primary concern is money or fame or anything non-heroic, then you're a hypocrite, which is the case for many occupational heroes who seek heroics as a profession rather than a moral obligation.

    • @Merilirem
      @Merilirem 6 лет назад +11

      Its less about compensation and more about seeking it. You should be a hero first because of your actions and heart etc, not because its a job you do for money.

    • @thatonepsycho5157

      I'd argue hero society was already incredibly damaged and Stain just unintentionally highlighted it. The idea of a law that would make the kids criminals for stopping Stain (except for Iida, since he went looking for Stain) is a patently ridiculous concept that only exists to add drama.
      Like, imagine this in the real world for a second. Attempted murders, assaults and rapes would drop, but successful ones would proportionally increase because you could be arrested for doing the right thing. And don't think I'm being hyperbolic, China didn't have laws protecting you from getting in legal trouble for interfering until fairly recently, and the exact opposite happened once the law was passed.
      And then there's the exaltation of Quirks that are obviously powerful or impressive, made worse by the fact that Hero society is heavily commercialized. A Quirk like Stain's, even when he was Stendhal, would be borderline impossible to market. Same with Shinso (thought I'd take a moment to point out that his Quirk isn't nearly as useful in heroics as people like to think it is due to the fact that jostling them, something certain to happen during an arrest, breaks it. And a criminal is likely to go ballistic and do everything in their power if they suddenly come to being cuffed), and at least part of the reason Eraserhead is considering an 'underground' hero. Since heroes are confirmed to be ranked in part due to popularity (which, in equally measure shows why Endeavor was never gonna get the Number One spot while All Might was around and shows just how DAMN good he is at combat to outweigh his general jackassary to reach Number 2), a hero without a marketable power would be confined to lower rankings.
      I'd ultimately say Stain is a symptom of a system that was broken from the beginning.

      Neto del Toro actually 3 kids with powerful physical quirks against a fanatic who has a situational quirk and relies mostly on one on one fights and is also only trying to kill Iida and Native and avoiding to kill Midoriya and Todoroki as well as making slip ups cuz he's more into fast kills than prolonged fight especially if more pros show up

    • @galeno07
      @galeno07 6 лет назад +5

      Sarcasm.
      Google it, it'll change your minds once you understand the concept.
      At no point in my 2 line original comment did I mentioned that Stain was trying to kill Deku or Todoroki.
      Furthermore, it's implied that Stain would kill anyone he deemed unworthy of the title of hero, and at the time, that included both Todoroki and Deku, because, AT THAT TIME, they hadn'd proven themselves in his eyes, they were just some stupid kids that happened to be standing between him and his original pray (Iida and Native).
      The fact that Stain was only aiming to injure both Deku and Todoroki at first just says that he was trying to get rid of the nuisances that stumbled upon his potential crime scene to get on with his intended job, which was taking care of Iida and Native; he might have continued and killed both Deku and Todoroki after, but we'll never know since he deemed at least Deku worthy of being called a hero (to the point of actualy saving him from a Nomu at the end), and also Iida came to his senses and defeated him before he could harm anyone else.
      If you wanna throw shade at someone else's commentary, at least understand all the angles before throwing a snarky retort.

    • @galeno07
      @galeno07 6 лет назад +1

      So by that logic anyone that had stepped into that alley and stood between him and Iida saying any variant of "chill bro..." would have been deemed a hero by Stain?, because that "he deemed Deku a hero before they fought" part impies that, 'cos, literally, everything he did was just barged in and stand between them... no words, no flamboyant displays of abilities, just a kid that blasted his way into whatever the hell was going in in that alleyway.
      If you think so highly of Stains "process" for picking and choosing real heroes, then you're doing in a diservice by oversimplifying his method to the point of deeming someone a hero just for barging into a fight. Yes, interfeering when you're not supposed to is the essense of a hero, but I'd argue actually saving someone without dying is an even greater achievement; so yeah, I stand by what I said: he deemed Deku a hero until all was said and done, otherwise, he would have left that Nomu take him.

      Indeed they are.. because no one seems to understand that he was going to go through them one by one: first Native, but Iida got in the way, and continue doing so to the point where he became such a nuisance that Stain went for him directly just to get him out of the way so he could continue with his intended target, Native; add to that the aggravant of Iida acting on purely selfish desire/revenge for because of his brother, and that made Stain laser-focused on him: now his main target was Iida... until Deku and Todoroki showed up. Now those two were in the same situation Iida was before: they are the nuisances, Iida is the main target.

    Funny thing, the last manga chapters tells us about Endeavour's heat regulations.
    The short story is: he can't overcome the fact that he overheats, he has to wait. And that means he's incredibly limited if the fight lasts while his son does not have that issue at all, and is only limited by his own bodily endurance. Endeavour is like a few bombs, he explodes a couple of time but then it's over. His son has the potential to be that bomb exploding in chain for dozens of minutes, he can become so much more powerful.

      You should put spoiler tags on this. Its a 100% spoiler and manga readers are not the only ones who come here. The crew will also not read or hear this comment because its a spoiler and manga readers should know so the only reason to make such a comment is to spoil.
      Put it behind a SPOILER tag and let people choose to be spoiled.

      Merilirem or you know people won't be fucking stupid and just not read it since he said it's something in the latest manga chapter.

    • @Arkayjiya
      @Arkayjiya 6 лет назад

      I say where the info come from and I leave a space below so that people can stop reading. I also say what the spoiler is about (details about the heat regulations part of his powers). Worse come to worst and people can't stop reading if they don't see the world "spoiler", all they'll learn is that Endeavour has a limit to how much fire he can put out which... Is both obvious and not a spoiler since Bakugo basically says that everyone has some kind of limit like that in season 2 episode 10. I think they'll be fine.

    • @Merilirem
      @Merilirem 6 лет назад

      1, not talking about the details but that you spoiled what happens in the latest chapter which means it doesn't happen sooner and that the story has to be in a place for it to happen. There's other stuff but you get the idea.
      2. I read that instantly. I can't speak for everyone but some of us read entire chunks of text at a time, others read faster than they can consciously comprehend so either way by the time you know its a spoiler you have absorbed it and can now clearly recall what it said. If you want to avoid spoiling you should put it in the READ MORE part of a comment and say SPOILER right above that.

    • @Arkayjiya
      @Arkayjiya 6 лет назад +4

      Okay so I spoiled the fact that they don't tell us everything about a very specific part of Endeavour's powers (that everyone who paid attention already deduced from dialogue of the second season from Endeavour and Bakugo and the fight of episode 10) before an unspecified chapter that a person who doesn't follow the manga will have to look up compared to the date of my post if they want to figure out which it was. You'll excuse me if I don't lose sleep over it. I wrote a warning, you decided to read super fast in a comment section that could be filled with spoiler instead of being careful, well too bad.

    Its hard to say how much of a power difference there is between All Might and Endeavor because in episode 1 or 2 its stated that Endeavor has resolved the most incidents among heroes, which obviously includes All Might. All Might is just so charismatic and inspiring so he is ranked number 1. So Endeavor might very well be more comparable to All Might than we might think.
    Also its cool that Endeavor trusts Shoto's judgement since he let him run off on his own like that, lets be real he didn't have to.

    • @rotciv557
      @rotciv557 6 лет назад +1

      Im pretty sure that Endeavour hasn't solved more incidents than All Might, what is stated is that Endeavour has locked up more villains than All Might has, but when it comes to other crises like natural disasters he rarely ever contributes, as opposed to All Might who is stated to help people in all situations. Endeavour specifically hunts down villains whereas All Might does anything he can for the greater good (as shown with the video Izuku sees of him as a child where in which All Might saves a shitton of people from a fire).

    • @MrMossMan7272
      @MrMossMan7272 6 лет назад +13

      In the past few years because of all mights injuries he has indeed beaten more criminals, all might is limited to only 4 hours compared to endeavors 24. The rank of number one isn’t only determined by cases resolved, but also popularity and a few other factors. So since endeavor is a bit of an asshole he typically isn’t very popular, so it’s incredibly hard for him to be number 1.

    • @Yal_Rathol
      @Yal_Rathol 6 лет назад +5

      except that later moments in the manga and anime show that all might completely blows endeavor out of the water when it comes to raw power. one for all's 100% is comparable to a dragonball character being dropped into this universe, each hit is like watching a bomb go off. and if you don't believe me, _all might can change the weather by punching the sky._ go back to the start of the series, he puts out the fires from the sludge villain by punch up, altering air pressure and bringing rain.
      keep in mind that all might is currently dying and missing about half of his internal organs. the all might you see in this show is not his 100%, not even close, and he's still outstripping endeavor in multiple aspects, including power and speed.
      and yeah, endeavor didn't have to let todoroki go, but at the same time, endeavor was busy and had his hands full with the nomus randomly breaking things, he probably figured his son was more than durable enough to handle whatever he was running off to deal with.

    *SPOILERS* (Kinda, Only for the Spin-off)
    Stain looks the way he does because he got smash in the face by a Vigilante known as *Knuckleduster* (Yes, I also think that is a cool name) when Stain was known as the vigilante *Stendhal* . Their fight was caused by many factors which if I tried to type out, I be here all-night. Long Story short: They used to work together and know work against each other. However Knuckleduster's Actions didn't change Stain, his words did. He (And I am paraphrasing from memory here) said "I do hero work because I love hurting bad guys.", meaning he wasn't a true hero. Stain realizes that there are few if none true heroes.
    Man, I've spent to much time around this series....... Eh who cares?

  • @theanafront3746
    @theanafront3746 6 лет назад +10

    And yeah, you're goddamned RIGHT that Stain would dislike someone like Endeavor the most, as he is the epitome, and most meta justification, of everything that he's trying so desperately to correct about the flawed hero-society, of people making idols of others based on their image, and not on their actual deeds. They, and we the audience, are willing to turn a blind eye to heinous acts and problems that need to be addressed so long as they flex for the camera or sell some fan-service now and again (Uwabami ;) ). Now normally, and in any other show, it would be easy to have it be a black-and-white argument and say that Stain is just "wrong" or just "right". There have been plenty of real-life terrorists and extremists that have preached their ideals, and made no impact despite their effort, because that's just the way the world works; it's ridiculously rare that a single person can change the world on xer own.
    The fascinating thing about Stain's character is that for whatever reason, he actually IS achieving his desired results by his actions. It really SHOULDN'T be working, but it IS, not only giving credence to his cause, but also that whereas he isn't "right", he definitely isn't "wrong" either: their society is definitely out of whack, and drastically NEEDS to change. Which is why the *consequences* of this arc allow the story to...eventually go where it does.
    I swear, this is the smartest show/anime I've come across in a long, long while.

Stain killing a noumu to save what he considers a true hero in a world full of fake ones.

  • @ArtWithSR

    The big reason Stain was such a big menace to society were a couple of reasons:
    - He is strong in a 1v1 fight ofcourse, but trained himself to handle multiple enemies should that situation arise
    - He kept the details on his quirk secret, which is a tactical advantage
    - He kept to the shadows and alleyways, which gives him another tactical advantage based on the above reasons
    So basically if Stain sticks to his terrain and fights no more than 1 or 2 enemies at once, he'd be a big threat (except to at least the top 5 heroes)

    Endeavour is just the pinnacle of what Stain sees as a “false hero”.
    Endeavour only cares about becoming number one, he does not become a hero to help others and to selflessly put others before himself. He wants to become the best and even abuses and sacrifices his family in order to achieve that dream. No doubt that he gets the job done and saves people, but he saves them for the wrong reasons.
    The opposite of All Might, who Stain sees as the epitome of a true hero.

    The thing is endeavor's quirk cannot regulate his temperature beyond a certain limit, beyond which he would not be able to maintain his body temperature, that's the reason he married shoto's mother to get a child with both powers of ice and fire to regulate this drawback of his quirk

    In one of the most recent manga, Endeavor does mention that he's getting close to overheating in his inner monologue during a fight, so yes, Shoto needs to regulate both sides

    I absolutely love that the anime added in that scene with Endeavor fighting the Nomus, which wasn't in the original manga. It's so great to see that in spite of being a pretty shitty human being and a terrible father, there's a damn good fucking reason why he's #2 hero. It also makes a great juxtaposition with Stain's ideology, since Endeavor is one of the people he sees as the worst of the "fakes", and yet there are probably hundreds - if not thousands - of people alive who would be dead if not for him and his work.
    He saved the civilians, provided good leadership for the other pros, and took down the Nomu in an incredibly efficient manner, pretty much on his own. He even trusted Shouto's instructions and sent people to help him, in spite of the fact that Shouto's instructions were pretty random lol. He actually has a higher amount of rescues and villain arrests than even All Might, he's THAT good at what he does. He just has a shitty personality and people don't like him as much as All Might lol. It's a great way to show that there are a lot of different ways to be a "hero".

    The reason Stain was after Tenya's brother, I think, was to show that while Stain stood by his ideology it wasn't infallible. What I mean by that is that Stain judged Tensei a false hero based on his own thoughts of what makes an ideal hero and from what little he knew of Tensei. But as we saw Tensei was certainly a good hero and a good person, showing that while well meaning there's a reason why we don't do things Stains way because you can't know who a person is based on such shallow observations sometimes. One reason I love Stain so much, he's a flawed and interesting character.
    Also just a reminder what Stain said wasn't that All Might was the only worthy hero, we saw that isn't the case since he saw Shoto and Deli as worthy too. What he said was that All Might was the only hero he saw worthy to kill him. What Stain seemed to largely go for were heroes who had selfish ideals, who wanted to be a hero for reasons other than helping people. Heroes like Endeavor who just want to be the best, or heroes like Tensei who have large hero companies that they run which in Stains eyes makes them seem money hungry. We see through Tenya's flashback though that his brother was anything but a money hungry hero though, which is why Stains ideals or at least how he determines someones worth as a hero is flawed.

      Justin DiNardo Tensei wants to be a hero because heroes are cool, and it's the family business. Stain is a great villain because he's objectively right about ALMOST everything.

    Stain's ideal hero are the ones who are strong and are true to the idea of selflessly saving people. Iida's brother lost to him, so he thinks he's not worthy to be a hero. Unlike Midoriya, who spoke highly of All Might's ideals and also held his own against Stain.
    In Japan, they use ropes for their trash disposal. So that explains why they just randomly found one in a back alley.

    The one thing the sub does a LITTLE bit better in this episode is in Midoriya's voice over at the end. Instead of saying "Only the Hero Killer had any fight left" he says "only the Hero Killer stood up to face his enemies." That really establishes more clearly that while everyone else COULD have fought, Stain was the only one pushing forward ready to die if he had to.

    To Note - Endeavor and Todoroki have to regulate their flames cause it heats up their bodies. Endeavor cant use his powers for too long at a higher capacity which was his motivation for making Shoto have the ice power as well to make him the perfect hero who can regulate his body temp by using both quirks.

    blindwave crew maybe this will help yeah understand why stain targeted Iida brother, having the intent to save people for no reward is half of stains qualification for being a proper hero, the other half is having the strength to back up those ideals so for example the shock student while he wants to be a hero he would be considered unworthy because he isnt strong enough or skilled enough with his quirk yet, shoto demonstrated strength with his quirk skill by saving izaku and Iida while keeping stain on the back foot.
    PS: not a spoiler for this anime stains face is explained in the spinoff, it had nothing to do with endeavor he just sees him as a fake because hes just a hero to be at the top. But stain ended up cutting off his own nose after being fuckedup when his face got smashed in by a vigilante to commit to his stain identity instead of his former civilian life.

    Stain's rage at Endeavour is more about Endeavour having a notoriously selfish and mean-spirited public personae, even without knowing what he did to his own family. Also, Endeavour didn't burn off Stain's nose. In the spin-off manga, Vigilantes, we get to see Stain's origins. He cuts off his own nose after it gets destroyed by a brass knuckle punch.

    18:49 No stain actually wasn’t burned by endeavor the story behind stains face is explained in a spinoff manga about stain. He actually was trying to fight a hero named Knuckleduster and basically Knuckleduster punched him so fucking hard in the face that stain had to cut his own nose off from how damaged his face was.

    Ida's brother was attacked most likely because he viewed being a hero as someone who is cool. In a sense, he is doing it for the popularity. All might is a hero because he wants to save people. No fame or fortune influenced him

    So no one is telling them about this? This is a trivia that Horikoshi added in the comic for the extra pages (after he's out of idea for character profile and costume infographics); I hope Rob can tell the guys cause I'm interested to hear what they think about this-
    The winged Noumu that grabbed Deku is the winged kid that bullied Deku in the very first episode.

    I think the reason why Stain was going after Tensei was because Tensei runs an agency that he makes money from. Stain believes that Heros shouldn't be paid, which is why he went after him. And All Might while being the number one hero doesn't have an agency, he isn't making money from being a hero so I think that's why Stain considers All Might to be a worthy hero. Also for Endeavors quirk new information has been given in the manga that explains that as Endeavor uses his quirk his body temperature goes up, and it reduces his body's functions. Which is why Endeavor wanted to make have a child with both a fire quirk and an ice quirk so, that his child (Shoto in this case) can have a quirk that negates this flaw in the fire quirk.
