Fools, or those tired of life. Thrawn: The Emperor thought so too. The first time I refused his orders he called me a traitor and gave my attack force to someone else. Not only do all these scenes show the TIE Defender's capabilities, they also show Thrawn's excellent abilities in tactical assessment and how well he knows his enemy. He knows how capable they are, maintains realistic expectations throughout, and that allows him to anticipate their moves to counter more effectively. Honestly, if the people under his command would follow his instructions more effectively, the rebels likely wouldn't have outmaneuvered him anywhere near as often.
They couldn't have outmaneuvered him. Thrawn is just that good but unfortunately for him too many in the Empire are so inept. Heck the only reason why Thrawn is even with the Empire is because of their vast resources and power which he intends to use to benefit the Chiss. At the end of the day Thrawn's loyalty was always to his people but he worked for the Empire to ensure they wouldn't come after his people.

It jumps out of hyperspace on its own, and immediately rains heck and havoc on the rebellion. Its hit with a laser cannon but it does nothing, has it just returns with powerful laser barrages on the squadron. Its taken what we know about Tie fighter's, and chucked it out the window. We know a swarm of regular tie fighters is a problem, but seeing how much damage ONE of these Defender's cause. I think this also feeds into its design, being completely different from all other Tie fighters. The tie advance still only had 2 wings. This thing has 3 wings, completely different from all other variants, truly signifying its not like the rest. Its not disposable like the fighter and interceptor. Its not a prototype like the advance. This thing, is a fully tested, fully operational, product, ready to rain hell on the rebellion. I was first introduced to the Tie Defender in Star Wars Empire at War Forces of Corruption. Love at first sight. When they first showed the blueprints in the series, I gasped so loudly. Add one more reason I love the animated series
If Sidious was smart, he would have known that a superfighter that could easily best any fighter the rebels could come up with and even damage warships was a better investment than an oversized space station that couldn't be everywhere at once and was only useful for subjugation
Now that was a true beauty, Zaarin's TIE Defender. The Alt-universe Thrawn variant feels like a cheap knock-off... come on, no ion cannons?! Granted, there's the beast known as the Missile Boat in mind.
An interesting concept, but not doable, considering how expensive the tie defender is in comparison to standard tie fighters, 300 000 credits vs 60 000. Thats 5 tie fighters to 1 tie defender. Even the tie interceptor is much cheaper then the tie defender at 120 000 credits. Don't get me wrong, I completely agree that if every tie fighter was replaced with defenders then the empire would have rained supreme for sure, but the shere cost on that scale would not have been doabol, also considering that at a rough estimate that the empire had at its minimum made 4,2 milioen tie fighters. Maybe have say, the ace of every star destroyer fly on defenders, could maybe work at the start and work in more afterword.
Its probably far more viable to invest in developing a fleet of tie defenders than to be an idiot and build a second death star with all of the weaknesses of the first.

Then there's the TIE Elite, which isn't even making the same sound has a TIE, it almost sounds like it isn't even a Tie anymore, its something completely different. It even launch's missile, something that LITTERALLY NO TIE HAS BEEN SEEN DOING (I say see because yes the advance does have missiles but we never see them use it. And the bomber is the bomber. not much of a threat)
The bomber is a total threat when protected by a squadron of TIEs
I was first introduced to the Tie Defender in Star Wars Empire at War Forces of Corruption. Love at first sight.
When they first showed the blueprints in the series, I gasped so loudly. Add one more reason I love the animated series
Not exactly a fan of EaW's "bomber" take on it. TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance is where it's at its best.
I was in shock when I saw it first, one of the best dlcs for sure
If Sidious was smart, he would have known that a superfighter that could easily best any fighter the rebels could come up with and even damage warships was a better investment than an oversized space station that couldn't be everywhere at once and was only useful for subjugation
We see he wanted to generate jobs for the empire🤣
Tarkin doctrine. No nerd fir superfighters if you got a Death Star that one shot a planet
I love how the most intense situation can occur and Thrawn's just like "Ah yes, tragedy" "want some tea or wine while the ship falls apart?"
Love this ship design
Rebels when they face unshielded ships: "they may have numbers but we've got skill🤓"
Rebels when they face shielded ships: 💀
💀
Who remembers flying the tie defender in the classic tie fighter pc game? It was totally bad ass
Pretty amazing in Tie Fighter conversion of X wing Alliance as well.
Now that was a true beauty, Zaarin's TIE Defender. The Alt-universe Thrawn variant feels like a cheap knock-off... come on, no ion cannons?!
Granted, there's the beast known as the Missile Boat in mind.
But they always gave you near impossible tasks with it...
Could u imagine if all tie fighters were replaced with this the rebels would be screwed
@@consumerjtc5835 it doesn’t have all the weaknesses of the first he only reason it was destroyed was because it was still under construction
@@torandreasbelsaas one tie defender and take out 4 rebel ships Where as both tie interceptors and standard tie fighters don't even get one kill

IRONIC
You got it?
Hopefully, you were given the far superior Legends variant instead.
It's a welcome and unexpected surprise to see the TIE Defender make an appearance outside of the "TIE Fighter" PC game.😃
Imagine if Darth Vader got one of these, he is already terrfying enough in his tie advanced.
Vader did fly one of them. And then suggested to Thrawn that it should be faster, have more firepower and the controls should be simpler
@@Anders_LundSeems like Thrawn took that advice to heart.
3:49 Thrawn's plot armour is so thick even TIE Defenders can't fry him.
knowing him he probablly positioned himself in that spot expecting it to get stolen and him being perfectlly out of its fireing angle
You forgot the clip where the Arquitens deploys two TIE Defenders to attack Ezra and Sabine when they were raiding the communications outpost, the giant sat.dish.

Great compilation of the Tie Defender.
The tie defender something that could have won the Empire the war maybe
It would have easily
@@hggs4466 Absolutely! Since the Rebellion relied on starfighters for the most part, having something that can counter that be mass produced would've been greatly beneficial.
@@welkingunther5417 not only that but most of its assets like It's leader ship for the most part was held most within rather venerable ships that without fighter protection would lead to the head of the rebellion being chopped off effectively
Love how Thawn pulled a General Patton there lol
3:42 this reminds me of Joker shooting down the Batwing
Death star was cool and all but I feel like it should have been developed after the TIE defender project was completed so they could recover money and then actually get budget to build a battle station. That could have made a deadly combo of tie defenders filling the DS's hangars
A perfect mobile base and symbol of imperial domination.
those shields are insane, Y-wings main guns are powerful, so are they’re shields
As an X-Wing gamer, I can confirm.
Still sitting ducks they are, though.
At 5:08 that is a really cool detail: having the TIE defender break the sound barrier.
Imagine how many defenders they could of made with the money for the Death Star
The death star cost over 1 trillion credits. With that money you could give every isd a compliment of TIE defenders plus two lancer class frigate escorts.
@@alexsch2514 much more worth it
@@alexsch2514 I looked it up and you could give every ISD around 133 tie defenders
You missed a scene where the Ghost is being chased by two standard TIE Defenders. It's the episode in which they blow up a satellite dish.
0:33 did they send 2 bombers as interceptors?
Y wing’s are fighter bombers not just bombers
@@omarbaba9892 Y-wings are dedicated bombers. They have small laser canons which gives them anti fighter capabilities but they are completely outclassed by pretty much every actual fighter class in the galaxy in a dog fight.
It's like saying "oh the b-29 had forward facing anti aircraft guns it was basically an interceptor!"
Just stupid.
The B-wing was an ACTUAL fighter-bomber hybrid as it had the acceleration, manoeuvrability and firepower to give most low tier fighters like the Tie or Z-wing a run for their money, while having enough firepower as a bomber to threaten capital ships.
@@Kalenz1234 well that’s just not true, it’s the B wing that’s supposed to be the heavy bomber that throws dog fighting away. We see the y wing dogfighting a few times pretty effectively in return of the Jedi and clone wars
This is my masterpiece.
The TIE Defender being a prototype in the series I think saves it being not as efficient in the old Expanded Universe.
He literally says surrender the traitor or be destroyed. Good man!
The defender is very cool but design wise I always prefer the interceptor and phantom more
Such a great ship, not only does it have powerful shields and a hyper drive it also looks really cool.
The scene where Thrawn fired on the stolen Defender felt like a homage to a similar scene from Patton
Can you imagine if the empire had tie defenders at the battle of endor? The rebels wouldn't of stood a chance
Oh as a Fan of the old DOS TIE Fighter game, this made me have a smile on my face. Too bad it didn't have ion cannons mounted on the top wing/radiator like in the game though.
the budget is not enough
The game/EU.
Well spoken, and even moreso with the X-Wing video game's Battle of Turkana being a far better X-Wing introduction compared to... whatever the kriff Rebels Season 4 morbidly gave us.
I like how its engine is a constant jericho siren.
Ironically, the tie defender is surprisingly stable airframe if you look at the design and modify for Naca airfoil, it would actually be a surprisingly good air superiority fighter
05:36 The Pugachev's Cobra.
no that’s not a cobra, to achieve a actual cobra the plane needs to pitch more than 100 degrees, that’s just a aerobatic manoeuvre that looks like a cobra.
6:40 when discovered a mistake after you submit a work

So that's how you want to play it? Eat lead, Rebles!
I'm brave! I am a brave Admiral!
The ghost crew also fought agianst 2 tie defenders during their mission to disable the comm disk thing during the 3rd episode of season 3
You mean season 4?
If only Palpatine listened to Thrawn instead of Tarkin
Then he would have swarms of highly advanced star fighters instead of 1 slow moving unnecessary oversized death-ray
I vote Andor, The Mandalorian and Ashoka seasons 1-2-3-4
First time I saw the tie defender back in 2001 I thought it looked silly but over the years it’s kinda grown on me
That Tie Defender has appeared in two Star Wars games before here.
i wish this fighter was in the rogue squadron games
2:09 These are what the rebels are lawbreakers in war you cannot attack an enemy ship that can not fight and some rebels like him just see it as a game
Ya
@@Dilly958 I mean they were trying to kill him, and this isn't war they were trying to kill a senator who was speaking her mind
Not that the empire doesnt do that. I mean, Vult Skerris had a policy of shooting unnarmed civilian vessels that were surrendering to him
Looking back at Star Wars in general, it would feel like earthly laws and customs of war like the Geneva conventions have the same respect you’d give your toilet paper.... actually that’s too kind a comparison, at least toilet paper gets hoarded these days. Someone actually did a collection of onscreen war crimes committed through the clone wars series: ruclips.net/video/onmbtPL1N1c/видео.html
@@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire Well at the end of the day Geneva doesnt even exist on star wars.

Hope to see him in Ashoka
Good to know the Defender can go supersonic
9:58 so Hera is also secretly Russian? I swear she did a Pugachev's cobra or similar to that.
Nevermind, ignore me.
people compare the x-wing to the F-15 but I'd say its more like the Su-27...its the heavyweight fighter of the underdogs in real world air forces. Hell the successive iterations (like the Su-33 or early Su-35) have canards on them (like the T-85 x-wing)
@@Chadaface The Su-35 doesn't have canards actually. The 33, 34, 37 and 30SM models have.
Anyway. Officially the X-wing has been said to be inspired by the Spitfire of WW2, whereas the TIE fighters are Messers/Zeroes. At least in the narrative sense. I do agree though that the X-85 has the best design out of X-wing types so far, at least in the new canon.
@@balintkovacs4089 early iterations of the. Su-27M model was called the su-35 and it featured canards.

it became the tie surfer at one point
I have a feeling that the Tie Defender will return in the new Ahoska serie. The reason is with the return of Thrawn he may want to bring back the program for his fleet?
0:08 wonderful
5:09 if lothal and earth have the same atmospheres than the tie defender is going at 767 miles per hr here
I just realized that if Thrawn hadn't disabled Hera's shield, she would've gone through the 2nd Wave and destroyed the fuel depot.

Shields or no Shields how did an X-Wing and a TiE-Defender survive a direct hit from a Turbolaser?
Thrawn was probably very pissed off when they stole his precious tie defender
Not really, if anything I think he saw this theft as an opportunity to test his tie defender’s capabilities. Then activate the kill switch.
You know what would be really terryfying? Darth Vader in a TIE Defender.
Star Wars X-Wing:.......
Ironic is, Vader did USE the TIE Defender in a Thrawn book and that was him who recommended some improves to Thrawn that it leads to the TIE Defender Elite model.
