Wolfmann! Look at you go! I love the music! Great technique and form 👌 I appreciate how you keep composure and patience while desoldering. As well as trying again, this is the way 💯
Thank you!! Thank you!! It was a bit frustrating. I for sure thought the low melt solder was going to work!! Thankfully there’s other methods to remove components!! That solder wick is amazing!! 🐺🐺🐺😁😁😁
@wolfmanrepairs agreed! I do find that the low melt works sometimes, but you have to add either a lot so that the chemistry mixes between old and new. Also, leave the iron applied for much longer to ensure that the low melt seeps through. Definitely wick for the win 🏆 it's time for you to get a desoldering gun. Those are amazing they clear out any hole pretty much without any problems, but they do have a little learning curve to them as well. Sometimes, if you run it too hot, you can pull the trace pad with it lol but it's an excellent tool to have. I've got the hakko one, and it saved me so much time and hassle when I was re capping the model 1 genesis. It has I want to say at least around a good 40 to 50 caps. But I think in the areas where it did give you trouble might of been some ground plains those usually are a little harder to clear because they require more heat, attention and time sometimes even more solder to keep on trying to clear them.
I do have a desoldering gun but I had just rearranged my bench and I don’t have a good place to plug it in just yet. I’m also not sure why I just didn’t run an extension cord to it. 🤣🤣 Also last time I used it it was completely clogged up!! I had to get it hot in order to clean it out! It was a pain!! 🐺🐺😁😁
@wolfmanrepairs well pro tip here clean it after every use! Lol it's clogged on me too to the point where I couldn't recover my tip from the rookie mistake so now before and after every run I clean it as best as I can. Drill bits work wonders if you have them small enough to fit. If not crank the heat all the way before shut off and try to clean out the pipes as best as you can. I need to reorder a .8mm tip now but I feel you in where to park it. I keep mine in the case on the floor by my desk and I indeed use the extension cord it's a life saver. I'm looking into holders to keep it propped up.
I will have to do that!! Mine came with these long rods that are rough on the ends I used those to help clean it out. What temperature do you set yours to? I have mine at 325c but I don’t think that’s hot enough. 🐺🐺🐺😁😁😁
Nice job getting that 64 to look decent. If I run into any consoles that have been sitting at the bottom of the ocean for 10 years, then I know who I'm sending them to.
