      @@wolfmanrepairs I use a JBC clone soldering station. It holds two soldering irons. I use the T245 for bigger solder joints. Then I also have a T115 soldering iron for smaller detailed work. I find the JBC C115-113 chisel tip works great for traces. I run the heat at 330. The quality of your iron makes a difference. The cheaper the iron the more prone it is to overrun the heat on the tip. Keep up the videos and happy learning.

    Congrats on the 1k subs, Great video as always, Some are winners, others aren't so unfortunately. Its hard to get some consoles running, especially if its a faulty IC or some hidden break in the trace or solder joint. My case was with the VA3 Model 1 where It turns out it had "2" Faulty chips. not only the Zilog Data line 4 was shorted on the Yamaha 2612, But the IO Chip also had a short on that same line. Not sure how that could happen 🤔 I had help from good people from Console mods on Discord helping me pinpoint the issue, told me to use 240pSuite and its Z80 test had came back with 2 write errors, I was told it was ZD4. There was no trace break of any kind, so it was an IC issue. I had somewhat "Not Badly" butchured the board swapping out ICs with the primitive tools I unfortunately have, 😅But its finally working again!

    I've seen the refurbished sticker before on a model 1 in a rental store case I bought off someone. I believe (could be completely wrong) those were refurbished by Sega, especially with all of their bodge wires they were slapping on things from the factory, they might have been selling refurbished units. Also you should take the RF shielding from one of the dead dead units to replace the rusty RF shielding since you have a nice collection of parts consoles now.

    Good try Wolfmann some success is better than no success. You still got some great wins. Here's what I've learned from watching another youtuber having a similar ASIC problem. I noticed that in the original video that I saw, the pins contained all continuity to the ASIC for each controller pin. The problem I saw was that the buttons that did not work respectively were not recieving 5 volts to their lines as they should. So my guess in theory is if you were to measure each pin on the ASIC on the non working ones for each controller input to see if they have 5 volts across each input pin. If they do not I would try jumping 5v to each input that didn't work to see if that would resolve the issue.

      Thank you!! I will have to dive deeper into this console and compare readings with a known good unit!! I have continuity from the filter to the ASIC so I know it’s not a broken trace or anything. I will have to test to see if it’s getting 5v when the button is pressed!! Thanks for the info!! 🐺🐺🐺😁😁😁

    For controller input issues, check the ASIC. It might have an open line on the controller input pins, due to a faulty built-in pull up resistor.

    • @JDPeters538
      @JDPeters538 25 дней назад

      Yup the ASIC is possibly bad too

    • @wolfmanrepairs
      @wolfmanrepairs 24 дня назад

      Thank you for the info!! There is continuity between the filter to the ASIC. I wonder if there’s a way to add a resistor in line up to the ASIC kinda like how you can add a resistor to the game cartridges if they don’t work. I might have to give that a try!! 🐺🐺🐺😁😁😁

    • @fenriswolfretro6729
      @fenriswolfretro6729 24 дня назад

      @wolfmanrepairs what you're checking for isn't continuity. You need to set your multimeter to diode mode, like with Genesis carts, and check for the presence of a resistor on the controller lines on the ASIC side. If you get an OL, that means that internal resistor is dead. You could fix it by adding a 10k pull-up resistor to that controller line.

    Awesome video once again Nick! It's always bizarre for me, hearing the Sonic the Hedgehog title music from an NTSC copy. Being from the UK and using a PAL system, retro games are often so much slower (gameplay and music) and Sonic is a particularly good example

      @wolfmanrepairs 28 дней назад

      Thank you!! I find it bizarre too but in the opposite way since I’m from the US. I remember the first time I heard a PAL Sonic I thought there was something wrong with the game!! 🤣🐺🐺😁😁

    Congrats on the fix! Changing polarized caps to non polarized caps is interesting. I wonder if that will be fine in the long term and won't cause issues in the future. I asked that because Sega used non-polarized caps in the GG as well (you can clearly see them around the board). So there must be a reason why the caps needing replacing were polarized or else Sega would have just used all non-polarized caps.

      Thank you!! Yes I’m wondering that too. I have another Game Gear that I used the same kit on that I play almost daily so I will keep you posted. The kits are from Retro Six and they do some awesome work so I’m pretty confident that this setup will work out great!!🐺🐺😁😁

      @@wolfmanrepairs If it's from Retro Six I'm sure using them will be fine. Maybe cap technology has changed since the early 90s and the new non polarized caps work much better now😁
