THANK YOU ALL FOR SPENDING YOUR TIME WATCHING THIS VIDEO!! I’ll never not appreciate the fact you like my stuff, means the world. Hopefully this will help you if you are struggling with a slice ❤️❤️❤️
@@richardcanales1936 Length of club is a massive difference and that's why. A few top pros use shorter drivers than stock you get in shops, partly for this reason
"Let the shaft dangle down in between your legs and then just tilt to the side until it touches the inside of the thigh" ... You actually said this, and I nearly spat out my tea! Is this a golf instruction or something else entirely Pete???
I've been golfing for almost two years and couldn't figure out why I was always slicing with my driver. I've watched a lot of youtube videos to try to solve it. Peter, your tip to keep your left shoulder (I'm left-handed) down on the backswing meant I drove eight out of nine drives straight this morning! I couldn't be happier. Thank you, Peter!
No longer will tears stream down your face 🤣😭🤣 for whatever reason that was the funniest thing I've heard in ten years I nearly died laughing. That's part of the reason I follow you and watch pretty much everything you put out. Seriously what a sense of humor.
I'm not joking, been suffering with a slice for years, watched every video I could find but nothing seemed to help. Watched this the evening before I had 9 holes...didn't slice a single drive!! PETE YOU ARE A WIZARD!!
Peter Finch you are the man. I don't currently struggle with a slice. Playing a small to big fade at the moment but nothing drastically right. Your content is so engaging. The jokes, the impressions and other little things bring engagement and humour to your content.
This is it... Drive has been fixed. No more grip, turning of the club face, or ball position changes. Just keep that right shoulder low and i am crushing drives again! Thanks for all the videos and swing tips!
A million Golf Videos and 2:05 into this one I realize I've not been slicing...I've been hitting a push slice. So conscious about dropping down into the slot and coming under instead of over the top, I see my ACTUAL issue now. Appreciate you big time Pete Fella
My club face has been square, but still slicing hard! Seriously watched this video, went to driving range, and half way through a bucket of balls was crushing the ball straight or a little left!!! I’ve already coached my brother out of his slice as well. Sincerely thanks a ton!
Just got out out of bed and standing in front of the mirror messing with my shoulder, the wife said is that off a golf video haha my reply was yes mr finch lol funny, and great video Peter very helpful 👍🏻🏌🏻♂️⛳️
There literally isn't enough videos like this - always wondered how to form at the top of my back swing. now i know! Local driving range is going to love me..... cheers Pete!
Absolutely nailed it for me Pete, and you're not lying! It actually was a completely new tip for me. It certainly feels better hitting in the back yard. Maybe I'll get to the range soon to try it!
I've been trying to cure an over the top swing for what feels like forever and I've made more progress in 4 days after watching this video than I have in the last 12 months. However I am a bit hacked off that I didn't pick it up earlier as I've been following your channel for a couple of years. Thanks.!!!
This concept really helped me on the course last night; hit it so much cleaner and more consistently, I just need to clean up my course management and rhythm. Best tip I've ever used.
That might be the best piece of advice I've seen on fixing the shanks. As an addition to that, for folks who are trying to implement that shoulder position, a thing that MIGHT help with that would be to feel in your back swing as though you're pushing your right elbow (for a right handed player) forward. You'll find that when your elbow is forward, your shoulder must be back, that's just the way the body works.
I took this tip out to the course on Sunday and have never hit a straighter shot in my life. Set a new pr with a 310yd drive down the middle of the fairway! Thanks for the video and keep up the great work!
I went to my local PGA Pro for a lesson this week, as I have a mean 'slice'! A lot of what he was saying was in this video. We filmed my swing and it was easy to see that I was doing wrong. It shows you how important it is to go and get a lesson. It's only through videos like this one, I could speak in technical terms and understand what he was asking me to do. Keep up the great videos PF.
I am not currently struggling with a slice but I loved the video. I have saved it and shared it with my brother who is a slicer. I will be back to watch again when my slice comes back.....it always comes back...lol
Had to come back to this video to say that I went out this morning after watching this video last night, and, wow... I practiced that drill before teeing off and had almost zero slice all day!! Thank you, Pete. You are the man!
It is funny because i have sliced for 15 years, and i have tried just about everything! I came to terms with my slice about a year ago and slowed my swing down to about 50-60%, teed the ball low, played the ball almost mid in my stance, closed the club face in the grip, and i could hit a nice fade about 215-230Y(sometimes or wicked left into the woods). I would love to take a full swing and have some confidence that a banana/boomerang slice will not appear! in other words TY TY TY for this vid. I plan on hitting a few hundred balls just working on my shoulder and stance. Love the Vids Pete, and GL on making the British Open!
I have a really heavy slice and I have watched many videos to fix it and none of the tips have really worked...and not one of those videos have said anything about lowering the shoulder...I’m so excited to try this!! THANK YOU!!
I’ve seen ALL of your videos by now. Now I’m starting to revisit all the gems, this is a great one for me. Having trouble closing the face on impact lately. Not a good combo when I’m swinging a couple of degrees inside out. Thanks for all your excellent videos which are as entertaining as instructional.
love the tuition honesty with this is not a quick fix took it to golf today and it worked but had to think long and hard couple of practice swings and only slice one so big thumbs up from me thank you
I've gone from Horrid Hook to Delightful Draw to Super Straight to Fun Fade to Shocking Slice with my driver since we got out of lockdown.. all training videos are greatly appreciated!
Worked on this principle/move yesterday while playing. I immediately had better results, better misses, etc. I also felt like I swung half as hard and outdrove my playing partner by 20 to 25 yards each time. I went from slicing and trying to close the clubface, aiming left, having a stronger grip, and swinging out to the right to simply tucking my right elbow and making sure it's rotated properly at the top. This move also seemed to prevent my wrist from cupping as much. My playing partner is playing his slice shot shape well, but he would then say..."I would do anything for that shot shape. How are you doing that!? It is awesome!" Makes me excited to hit the course now that I am hitting the ball straight or even a little right to left. I still have my miss right, but its probably 1/5 vs 4/5 and it simply comes from poor shoulder rotation at the top and swinging too hard. Thanks for the awesome video Pete!
Just tried these tips. All I have to say is WOW! Easily the best performing tips I have ever tried. Dropping the shoulder wasn’t nearly as hard as I expected and it was also easily repeatable. Brilliant from Pete Finch!
I've been struggling with a slice for a while, that has turned into a "Power Fade" but even standing up behind my computer and doing it without a club this makes so much more sense and I can feel my hips opening up before my arms/hands come down
Watched this vid yesterday. Went out with my wife and brother in laws this morning to play 9 and applied it. Only sliced one drive. Shot my personal best. Also made a point not to think about what the final score could be, just took on shot at a time (per another of your videos). So thanks!!! As far as slice corrections tried in the past, I try to follow Gary Player's instructions in his book Golf after 50 and that helps a lot. Adding your tip to that seems to have taken me to the next level.
I was taught to tuck in my right elbow in which accomplished the same for me by lowering my shoulder and swing plane on the way back. Never looked back and for the first time I started playing golf by shaping more shots for the result rather than the mental hit it straight down the middle that most try to do. Great content again Pete.
Biggest thing I worked on over the lock down. Fixed my out to in swing path, and corrected my open face at impact. I can now produce a nice gentle draw I've always wanted. The bonus was I gained a solid full club length distance.
"I've managed t' not stay northern for aages in these vids, but finally ma true self can come ouut" 😂😂, never thought about right shoulder like that and it makes sense awesome fix Pete
Im really new to golf but listened to your tips on repeat for ages while at the range... massive changes to my down swing are well and truly needed... have almost 200yrd carry on a decent strike but I have to aim almost 45° left to arc it back straight... this is my new go too video to try and fix this... thankyou Peter 👍👍
I don't slice, more prone to slight pull-draw and I've been trying to do that shoulder "roll" as part of the transition. It is so much easier to incorporate it into the back-swing. I've instantly shallowed my club, made my club path 5* more inside-out and created a push-draw. Awesome. Thanks Pete, ❤️❤️❤️ back at ya.
Push fade was my curse as long as I have played golf(20 to 40 yards right and short) , in a iron club fitting the fitter explained what I was doing and why and now I have simply implemented the fix - which is exactly what sir Peter Finch 😀 explained here. Now i hit a strong power fade throughout my driver and woods.
Pete, I just tried this at home in the net / skytrak launch monitor and it is definitely helping with my path....still chucking in some big left club paths and like you say needs persistent work but this could be a game changer! I was about to give up and play a rubbish slice off the tee but feel I have some Hope now! Keep up the amazing vids.....
Thank you ..... never seen anyone talk about the shoulder dip .... totally what I do .... love the northern accent I try to hide mine all the time whilst living in London... Great video 😁😁
I'm a lefty, upside down is a no-no....but Thx for remembering us!! The slice, my nemesis...just learned how to shallow the club to rid myself of a serious out-to-in, and now your instructions will fit right in to my practice sessions. It's always interesting, and equally fun when you post for us Mr. Finch, Thx for keeping us entertained!!
Yet another great video. Watched this and did just what you said not to do ... ran right out to the driving range. The hand on the shoulder suggestion works well for me only I used this drill for my irons. Used it before every shot to make sure I felt I was in the right position at the top of my back swing. I hit every shot super pure. Decided to play 9 holes and shot 6 over (with a double on a par 3). I'll watch the video you actually made for irons later today ....
Thanks for all your help. Love watching you and Rick Shiels. Great help on my game. I've come a long way since watching you guys. Average over 120 on 18 to average of 92 on 18 in just over a year. Thanks again!
Oh wow, something new and even some biomechanical checkpoints. I'm not even struggling with slice (sometimes it shows up, but usually my bad shot is a pull hook now... gotta get out that back foot), but still enjoyed this. Not a bad thing to check myself. Well done, sir.
Feel that is my exact problem Peter. I will try this tip about the shoulder 👍 I allways sliced it untill now with my new driver and now i go massive left or straight left when i try to compensate with my grip etc. I know I have a out/in downswing. And need to fix it. So love that explaination you gave in this video. It feels spot on to my problem.🤔 Keep up the good work. Stay safe!👍
YES! Thank you!! I've been playing for 3 years with no formal training other than watching you guys on RUclips. I was just complaining today about how no one talks about what the right arm is supposed to be doing in the golf swing. Great video. Thanks!
Really strangely, I found that my swing was too vertical. Swinging the club almost more like a baseball bat around seemed to both fix my slice and make the ball fly farther. Only did this last week but now I've seen this video, it makes more sense because this causes the shoulder to sit down a bit and the elbow to point straight down to the ground. Great stuff Mr Finch
I’ve watched a TON of “fix your slice” videos and this one (combined with a Rick Shiels video that helped me fix my grip) REALLY worked. He’s right you have to work on it, but going through these motions have helped me hit straighter and much much further. Its a great drill that really inspires practice.
Hello Pete you literally have the best swing on yt I don’t even slice the ball just here to get my fix I’m not joking your swing is the only one I can watch now even rick is not good enough anymore 😂😂👍
you have literally addressed my main problem (what i was looking for) and i was wondering where i was going wrong.. thank you for sharing this wisdom :) cant wait to try it in the morning down at the range..
Thanks Pete, this is exactly my issue. Sound set-up, good turn, textbook top position but as soon as the down swing is initiated the club flairs out and comes over the top for either a sweary slice and out of bounds hook. You may have just saved my game.
This video is a god send! Thank you so much. I love how you explain why you’re doing what you’re doing rather than just telling everyone what to do and to just trust you. I also love that you explained how you should open the shoulder properly. Love the videos Pete keep it up man😁
I have a evil slice and a high handicap losing loads of balls during a game, but during lock down I started using this fix. First game I found I was able to compete with my regular play partners, with a noticeable drop in my scores and no searching for lost balls. Still a way to go but it has help me.
Had my first ever lesson a week back, the advice I got was ball just inside the front foot sternum always central with a slight lean on the back foot and hit up and through the ball Worked for me 😀 great video this great info
Took a lesson today for this got told to close the clubface nothing happened and i feel that it's at the top of the swing the problem lies thanks for this exactly what i needed
I had some random old guy at the driving range over hear me talking to my dad when I first started saying “screw this I play baseball” and he replied with I never met a baseball player who couldn’t hit a golf ball gave me a couple quick tips and instructions and I went from slicing the ball 50+ yards to virtually none at all can never thank that man enough
This makes so much sense, I've been working so hard on my club face and feel I have that and my grip correct but still slice it. Definitely going to try and focus on the shoulder. Thank you!
Wow, thank you!! I'm going to try this at the range. I know i have an out-to-in swing and have watched so many video's to fix it, but never heard of this method before! This may be just the information i need! Again, thank you for this video!
So that's where I've been going all these years. Very helpful going to the range asap

Always learning something when seeing your videos Pete. That setup for driver has been my go to since I started playing. Will deffo have a try at this...also 😂 big laughs on the comedy bits throughout, gives it a nice tone. Really enjoyed it.
Really can’t wait to get out and try this it’s killing my game at the moment and trying different things which is making it even more inconsistent. Will put the hrs in Saturday trying this. Help needed 👏🏻 thanks for all the great content Pete love the videos.
I just tried this down the driving range and it's the best I've ever hit. I even had a lesson where the instructor showed me how to rotate the face of the club but it was never consistent.
Interesting! I purchased an orange whip recently and the weight of the head naturally keeps your shoulder low and forces you to lift the club with your tempo and body movement and not pull the club up with your arms. It keeps the shoulder in the external rotation you mention.
Played yesterday and for the first time in a long time I wasn’t hooking everything. Did slice a lot of drives though so hopefully can work on my swing with this! Cheers mate brilliant video as per usual.
I found this to be a very very interesting video! It posed the question and provided knowledge for the answer, I feel I connected pretty well with your message/instruction here, so thank you!, and the I think the real reason I did was because my pro in a very very similar thing in my last lesson, next lesson next to see if I've retained any of it :) Fingers crossed, thanks again
Currently working with a coach to fix my swing and have basically reworked the entire action as I was far to vertical and the hardest part for me has been feeling comfortable in the swing radius but its been a 1 day at a time thing thanks for the insight :)
Great video and advice, i am definitely going to try this out 👍 I try and neutralise mine by using a low spinning ball with my driver lofted up a bit and set to the draw setting, sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't, it does put doubt's in your mind on the tee though ⛳🏌️♀️
I've been struggling with a slice for ages now, even with a strong grip, and in to out clubpath, which just made me push slice it. turns out it was my clubface all along. The easiest most simplest thing you can do to fix it within minutes, is try to keep the clubface closed/square on the backswing (or atleast the feeling of this, you will need to test this out on a range). If you try this out and it goes straighter than normal, then you know it's your clubface. This is so much more simple than telling someone to close the club face on impact. if you're keeping the clubface square, but still slicing, (this will likely be a left to right ball flight) then try keeping the backswing shallow and wide, then all you have to do you have to commit to mirroring the backswing on the downswing. If you're struggling with an out to in clubpath, then on the takeaway, try taking the club away by turning it to the inside, instead of taking it away in a straight line, keeping the arc shallow and rotational, sometimes a narrower stance can help you turn your hips more. and lastly don't forget the natural rythym of your swing, and don't try and cock your wrists, another great tip to help both of these is just dont grip the club too hard, you'll find the looser grip gives you a more natural swing with more speed at impact. when you grip hard, you'll find the tendons in your wrist tighten, which will lock up wrist movement. Another tip i can give is, aim with the clubface, then use the club face to set up your feet, so an imaginary line drawn from your back foot to front foot should be pointing at the same target as your clubface. But an easier way to visualise this is by making sure that imaginary line is square/perpendicular to the club face. after you set your feet up then you can grip the club.
Definitely going to try this, despite a strong grip tend to slice it, with my big miss being the push slice mentioned, which is usually - I think - down to not fully rotating through. Have noticed that over the top movement so hopefully this will help
Seriously, great stuff. Definitely my biggest issue in controlling my golf ball off the tee....with mid irons and short irons though, I’m pretty accurate by keeping my shoulder up, and staying steeper. Should I have this shallower swing for woods and long irons/hybrids, and stay steeper for the shorter irons and wedges?
THANK YOU ALL FOR SPENDING YOUR TIME WATCHING THIS VIDEO!! I’ll never not appreciate the fact you like my stuff, means the world. Hopefully this will help you if you are struggling with a slice ❤️❤️❤️
My slice is the reason I avoid courses with out of bounds on the right! It's like you read my mind on this video.
Finch > Sheils (only kidding, you are both great)
Let’s get Pete to 300k!
Watched it upside down.... Still looked like hard work.
Brilliant tip. When I figured this out my slice was gone. Now all I need it to get rid of the hook 🤣
Never clicked on a video so fast in my life.
It’s crazy because it’s only The driver too, All the other clubs even the 3 wood is fine
Agreed

I allways sliced it untill now with my new driver and now i go massive left or straight left when i try to compensate with my grip etc. I know I have a out/in downswing. And need to fix it. So love that explaination you gave in this video. It feels spot on to my problem.🤔 Keep up the good work. Stay safe!👍
Don’t tell Rick but you are my favorite golf RUclipsr. Love what you do. 👍
Thanks for the shoulder tip Peter makes so much of sense
Great video Pete can't wait to give it a try. Been trying to get rid of my slice for years.
YES!
*THIS IS SO HELPFUL MAN!!!!!*
I’ve watched a TON of “fix your slice” videos and this one (combined with a Rick Shiels video that helped me fix my grip) REALLY worked.
He’s right you have to work on it, but going through these motions have helped me hit straighter and much much further. Its a great drill that really inspires practice.
Thank You Peter! Started drawing the drives today! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
That setup procedure is brilliant. Thanks!
Hello Pete you literally have the best swing on yt I don’t even slice the ball just here to get my fix I’m not joking your swing is the only one I can watch now even rick is not good enough anymore 😂😂👍
Ben Davey finch #1
No doubt, Pete has a beautifully smooth swing, but I'd cast my vote for James Wiltshire
So right in every way ! Pete's swing is PURE 👌
Never heard anyone talk about the shoulder position before...other than the steep move. Great video!
The way you deliver the tips is brilliant, from, top slicer
you have literally addressed my main problem (what i was looking for) and i was wondering where i was going wrong.. thank you for sharing this wisdom :) cant wait to try it in the morning down at the range..
Love the videos Pete keep it up man😁
Great video and angles didn't realise how steep my swing was...thankyou Pete!👌
With those tight trousers Pete, its difficult to concentrate on just one ball.... A fantastic vid, the ultimate stroke saver
Brilliant video Pete, I think I’ve got this problem so going to work at this
Only a minute in and I’ve liked this video. I hate my sluice problem. Really holding me back.
Definetly give this a try I either badly slice or over compensate and hook finding the happy medium is becoming difficult
Dude this video helped me get rid of the slice in 10 minutes! Thank you so much Peter!
Will be getting to the driving range ASAP and trying this :) thanks Pete
Took a lesson today for this got told to close the clubface nothing happened and i feel that it's at the top of the swing the problem lies thanks for this exactly what i needed
I had some random old guy at the driving range over hear me talking to my dad when I first started saying “screw this I play baseball” and he replied with I never met a baseball player who couldn’t hit a golf ball gave me a couple quick tips and instructions and I went from slicing the ball 50+ yards to virtually none at all can never thank that man enough
Realest golf RUclips there is, legend
Really good vid! You are not only an awesome player to watch but also a very pedagogical teacher, Pete!
Really can’t wait to get out and try this it’s killing my game at the moment and trying different things which is making it even more inconsistent. Will put the hrs in Saturday trying this. Help needed 👏🏻 thanks for all the great content Pete love the videos.
Don't usually comment on these, but this was seriously helpful! Thanks!
Great video! Certainly helped me today on the course!!!
Thanks for the advice Pete will be trying this out soon. Keep up the good work. And hope you're quest is going well.
Played yesterday and for the first time in a long time I wasn’t hooking everything. Did slice a lot of drives though so hopefully can work on my swing with this! Cheers mate brilliant video as per usual.
So close to 300k! Congrats you deserve it!
This will be put into practice on Friday! And then the medal on Saturday! Thank you Pete
Awesome content keep it rolling. I think those simple tips are actually really going to help me thanks!
Gave it a try, swing feels more natural and free flowing
Very entertaining and informative. Love the video. Looking forward to your next comp video.
Currently working with a coach to fix my swing and have basically reworked the entire action as I was far to vertical and the hardest part for me has been feeling comfortable in the swing radius but its been a 1 day at a time thing thanks for the insight :)
Great video and advice, i am definitely going to try this out 👍
I try and neutralise mine by using a low spinning ball with my driver lofted up a bit and set to the draw setting, sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't, it does put doubt's in your mind on the tee though ⛳🏌️♀️
