      ranlive1 Probably the record label had problems trying to sell her because of certain similarities to Janet Jackson.

      Yeah, with Janet Jackson, Jody Watley (who she was compared to most back then), and Pebbles all out, it was very hard for Karyn to have gotten much bigger, although she had the strongest vocals by far out of the four.
      "Secret Rendezvous" was a huge pop/R&B/dance hit in 1989 and did well on all three charts, but I think after 1991/1992, with the music sound changing (and all-things associated with the 80s dance music scene feeling like "old hat" to the pop audience) it ended up making pop success harder to attain for artists like Karyn after that period.

    I remember when I first saw this. Needless to say, I couldn't take my eyes off of it.
    Karyn White was the sexiest of the R&B/pop solo females at that time, though Pebbles was awfully fine too.
    Great voice. Beautiful woman. Thought she'd be a huge star. Never quite happened.

      Agreed Pebbles was one fine looking lady....but I still give Karen a slight edge....and Pebbles could barely move...while Karen is a sexy dancer....point match set!

    Still overwhelmed she's back on the scene. Missed her so much. There aren't too many female (or male) singers that can perform at this level--New Jack Swing and all. I'm sure when she performed this live she was a beast. She looks better now than when she left. I hope they do an Unsung or Life After on her. If anyone has been noticing a good number of performers from back in the day are returning. We need to support them more and today's performers need to give the ole skool their props.

    She was an amazing talent. She could sing, dance and had the style and looks. She would have been the perfect (and only ) real replacement for Jodie Watley when she left Shalamar, but was already becoming a star of her own.

    • @MrEXtraRaw
      @MrEXtraRaw 5 лет назад +3

      @@dlw1221 Paula was a great dancer and all BUT, no urban sensibility with her moves, as bad as the dancing is here, Paula would just end up trying to put a Gene Kelly-ish tarnish on the running man in tap shoes. Even Rosie Parez would be better qualified.
