Yeah, with Janet Jackson, Jody Watley (who she was compared to most back then), and Pebbles all out, it was very hard for Karyn to have gotten much bigger, although she had the strongest vocals by far out of the four. "Secret Rendezvous" was a huge pop/R&B/dance hit in 1989 and did well on all three charts, but I think after 1991/1992, with the music sound changing (and all-things associated with the 80s dance music scene feeling like "old hat" to the pop audience) it ended up making pop success harder to attain for artists like Karyn after that period.
Me, Candāce! Dammit, I miss those times & the music that helped write the stories of my beautiful, fun-filled life in the 80s. Thank You Lord, 4 my life. 💜☮️✝️& 🎵🎶

L.A. Reid and Babyface are songwriting and producing geniuses. And Karyn is an amazing vocalist and incredibly charismatic performer. Not to mention one of the hottest women in history.
I'm a country boy from Kentucky, I grew up in this generation, til this day I still think she was and still is undeniably beautiful, with an amazing voice.
She was one of the best vocalists of a generation. She was sexier and more beautiful than any of the women of that era. I mean, her face and body near perfect. She just didn't have the Jackson name, or the support of her record company like Madonna.
The production is so amazing. Big beats but not over powering and that subtle egyptian part thrown in. Seriously perfection. Also Karen's black and gold look here is one of the best represtations of the 80s style. Stunning woman and ensemble.
Me too. Saw Karyn in concert in 2018 and she sizzled. She sang the hell out of Superwoman. Also saw her perform in 1988 when she opened for Bobby Brown. And looked fabulous then and now..
She is most gorgeous sexiest black woman I have ever seen in the music business. Had a very big crush on her. Wish she was in the business a bit longer.

I loved anything that LA Reid and Babyface were putting out during this time. After making the connection between all the songs I liked that they were putting out from Karyn White, Pebbles, Bobby Brown, Sheena Easton, Whispers, I was hooked. I just about looked for anything that was coming out with their names on it.
The Deele NEVER 4get The Deele. Still love everything they touch and still love Face singing background on every song. You always know cause he's always so clear. Faith Evans - Never Letting Go, Anthony Hamilton- Dear God, Johnny Gill- Let's Get The Mood Right it's SO MUCH more😍
Same here. I was discussing the other day about the dynamic on their team LA Reid's beats and or programming was so on point along with Babyface's lyrics and melodies. Their style reminded me a little of Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers of Chic who were also great producers during the 70's
@@drakesdaddy1843 Yeah. She sadly was also competing with Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson around the time. But guess she ended up marrying Terry Lewis and having his kids. Still she definitely should've been a bigger star than she was with all that talent & beauty
I dont know what nostalgia bubble you are living in, but there was just as many, if not more pop acts in the 80's & 90's relative to now who got a record deals without knowing how to sing or dance. There was far more pop music trash in 1990 than there is now, believe me.
So glad I was a teen in the 1980's. I am about 6 months younger the Karyn so I was the perfect age to enjoy her music along with Janet Jackson, and Michel'le. Little wonder this Kentucky white guy dated and even lived with several African-American ladies before marrying a lovely Black-French Canadian. It's been 22 wonderful years now.
The ambition! She did everything! She refused to sit back as just a chanteuse and NAILED this. I remember this in the 80s but seeing it today gives me a while new RESPECT for this amazing talent.

I always loved her beauty, energy, sense of style, how.she celebrated feminity & expressed love & romance!! The Quintessential Libran Superstar Empress! Miss her music!
One of my favorite, most-listened to songs of ALL TIME. Something about the production, there is a space within the notes, her voice is mesmeric, the percussion, that heavy bass, the whole shebang. Pure excitement! Still remember the very first time I heard it on the radio.
I'm a Karyn White fan myself!!! The production value was amazing! Karyn was the perfect blend of Pop and R&B! A damsel with a beautiful appearance and a even more beautiful voice!

ranlive1 Probably the record label had problems trying to sell her because of certain similarities to Janet Jackson.
She was a star IMO. You don't wanna get too big or you have to sell your soul...
You took the words right out of my mouth. I was thinking that same thing. There are some similarities to Janet Jackson in this video.

She is even more gorgeous than I remembered. Great song of course. I know that her incredible looks shouldn't matter, but one cannot help but notice.
