Bush explained in a 1985 interview: "It's about a relationship between a man and a woman. They love each other very much, and the power of the relationship is something that gets in the way. It creates insecurities. It's saying if the man could be the woman and the woman the man, if they could make a deal with God, to change places, that they'd understand what it's like to be the other person and perhaps it would clear up misunderstandings. You know, all the little problems; there would be no problem."

One of Britain's finest song writes and singer, she is my absolute favourite I discovered her music back in 99 when I was travelling back from Dover a memory that has stuck in my mind ever since
My Nan died in 2021, and I found out this was one of her favourite artists. Around that time I started running, and I have a distinct memory of running in the rain up the hill listening to this song, praying to my nanna.
And a month later I met the love of my life, and I left my abusive marriage. I look back now and cry at how powerful this song was in my life. She’s still guiding me up that hill, with less problems. ❤
She'd be proud of you.

I saw an interesting interview once with Bjork. She was asked who her influences were, without hesitation she said, " Kate Bush gave me permission to let all my sounds out. If it weren't for Kate Bush I would not have the courage to be me."

It is so gratifying to see a whole new generation of people discover Kate Bush. When I was in high school, a friend played me a cassette tape (hey, it was 1978) of her first album, "The Kick Inside". By the time "Hounds of Love" came out, I was a huge fan. As someone on here commented, it's strange that in the 1980s, many considered her songs and videos to be weird, but now, they make perfect sense. Guess that's one definition of being ahead of one's time.
Love your story!! I also think its great too because i'm young and my parents didn't even know of her music until I told them about her after watching stranger things! so cool how music moves!

80's pop music was at an elite level. Even songs that have been overlooked can come back at anytime.
The song has never been overlooked, read at least her wikiped' page
i usually play it daily❤
This song wasn’t overlooked at all. It’s always been considered Kate Bush’s best song and entered the Rolling Stones’ Top 500 songs the year before it was in Stranger Things
It's very true. The 80s had incredible music and was an incredible time!
@@ste9281 It tends to be a dual between this & Wuthering Heights. I looked up a dozen or so Kate Bush top hits compilations (which are often quite silly), but those two always were changing places. But those "Best of" lists normally only deal in hit songs. This song is undeniably #1 when it comes to sales. But when you look at all of her albums & releases and you're a big fan, then it's almost impossible to choose a #1 song. It's hard to be objective & choose a best song of hers. There are so many brilliant songs that might qualify. And you're right. It was never overlooked. This album even knocked Madonna off the number 1 spot in the UK. The single reached #3. But, "The Rolling Stone", which used to be really good in the 70s and 80s, is not taken very seriously anymore. They keep changing their top hits based on current listeners & trends. The last one was in 2004 and Running Up That Hill was not on it (nor any other hit of hers).
If I could, I would give this song an award 🎶!

I just read that Kate Bush is Catholic, and that the powerful idea’s of the faith inspire her music. May God and faith continue to inspire her! 🌅🌅✝️✝️
"I would never say I was a strict follower of Roman Catholic belief, but a lot of images are in there; they have to be; they're so strong. Such powerful, beautiful, passionate images! There's a lot of suffering in Roman Catholicism. I think I'm looking for not necessarily religion, but ways of helping myself to become more understanding, more complete, a happier person ... But I really don't think I've found a niche."
@maximthefox
Thanks for the quote. Stranger Things Star Maya Hawke is in a new movie (Wildcat) directed by her father Ethan Hawke, where she portrays Flannery O’Connor (who is a devout Catholic writer). Excellent movie. Flannery put no restrictions, or limits on her Catholic faith and is considered an important author in the 20th century. I loved reading Flannery’s short book A Prayer Journal, which shows her love of God.

@@reynaldogalvez6134 it's usually rude to bring up a woman's age. But, to be fair, if ya know when this song came out, then he/she told you his/her age. He/she also replied with "😂", so I don't think this person is offended bro.
I love how they are bringing back these powerful songs and making them beautiful and current again.
you mean in stranger things
I always cry hearing this song bc it brings back so much memories I just cand 😭
Because real musicianship and art isn't really happening right now. Where is this generations equivalent?

I DIDN'T KNOW SHE MADE 2 OF MY FAVORITE SONGS I CANT-
What a solid song. I hope Kate Bush is enjoying the longevity of her work. what a baller.
I remember this song when I was a kid back in the 80’s. Listening to it again in the 4th epic episode of ST, was like a punch in the stomach that brought me back to my childhood and it is just perfect for that scene. I can’t stop rewatching episode 4.
I know how exactly how you feel, I was 7 when this was released and have grown up with this perfect song. Being used in Stranger Things just makes the nostalgia hit hard.
@Jane Doe Kate Bush Running Up That Hill is my number one favorite song
I grew up in the 80s have no idea how I missed this song. I heard the Meg Meyer's version a few years ago and assumed it was new.
I grew up in the 80’s too & it’s crazy that I don’t remember the song or never heard it until now. It’s a good song, I feel a little cheated.
@@cher4u2day Same here. But I remember the chorus very vaguely.
hearing this song on Stranger Things was like seeing an old friend again. this song has been on my mom's playlist for the past 27 years I've been alive and I had completely forgotten about it for so long.
That’s great

Kate Bush and ABBA taught me how to sing. My childhood's best teachers.
Listening since its inception, and still loving it!
it's at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 as of typing this! Congrats, Kate!!
I saw it🙌🏻. Love it❤️
unbelievable...40 years later :)

No 1 in the UK. Her first No 1 single in the UK since Wuthering Heights in 1978 - record gap of 44 years.
Now number one !!!

I highly highly doubt this video was the first time you've heard this song. 😄
My mom used to play this song so I've heard it before
Anemoia may be the term you're looking for.
So happy to see so many people coming from Stranger Things and giving that song the love it deserves… Kate Bush is truly a classic for her timelessness… her music is always gripping and powerful and so many coming here now is a testimony to that!
I've always loved her song Suspended in Gaffa but after hearing this masterpiece on Stranger Things I'm now committed to checking out her entire discography.
Lol, Kate Bush royalties go brrrr...... 🤣
This song & scene took me somewhere...and I loved it. Definitely checking out here whole discography
@J G not you again
@J G do you hear that...? Yeah neither do I cause not a single soul cares 👍
Phenomenal, truly outstanding, will listen to this song staring off into the distance, the “wa wa wa wo” is amazing. In short i love the song
That synth keyboard just gets me every time. This is my 80's childhood. This is looking at my mum and dad from my car seat. Kate Bush's music will always be a powerful influence on my life.
SOFT SYNTH FTW, always.
same here, like really specifically i associate Kate Bush with childhood car trips
Rob! I had no idea you were a Kate Bush fan! The greatest drum tutorial channel on RUclips is now one of my favorites on the website!
Lol,exactly as i remember 80s tracks
That was a touching way you put that.. especially with that interwoven memory of your parents! The same for me but with me it was listening to the radio with my sister while watching out the window or dancing like idiots. Nowadays we have grown apart but the memories stay!
Brilliant Kate is getting recognition on Stranger things 4! Hounds Of Love is a fantastic album I bought on cassette back '85. I'm 50 this year and it takes me back to my youth! Love the 80s!
Oh, so sweet. I was born after 80's but I love 80's I think that was a gold time. I used to watch 80's movies in Colombian channels in 90's so that reason I feel nostalgia about my Childhood
there's was no time like it
We had the best music. I haven't seen this video since MTV stopped playing videos.

Even as a massive 80s fanatic, I had never heard of this song before Stranger Things. I'm glad that TV shows can highlight hidden masterpieces like this.
I find a lot of my favorite songs through television shows.
I lived through the 80s, it was an interesting decade
We need more shows that highlight the greatness of the 80’s.
Really? I didnt even know this song was in stranger things till I saw the comments (dont care for netflix that much)
Same here…..
Don't we all miss the 80's!!!

The Strangest Thing is how many people are discovering Kate Bush when this song has been a hit for many years, listen to the 12 minute version and your soul will leave your body ❤

You're right. It's Mad that people are taking this to the Max.
It's funny that you said "Strangest Thing", since the reason most young people are here, is because of "Stranger Things"
First heard this on Late Night with David Letterman in the early 90s. That song has never gotten out of my head since then. I used to play that on my MP player back in the 2000a when I was running hills at the local high school tennis courts. Pun intended. But Kate Bush in a league of her own still today.
