In 2012, etnies launched the Marana with Ryan Sheckler, inspired by the goal of creating the longest lasting skateboard shoe. Today etnies celebrates 10 years of the shoe Ryan describes as timeless with a video and four limited-edition colorways of the Marana OG.
The Marana was designed piece-by-piece to blend strength, style, and high-impact cushioning. Sheckler says his adult years of trial and error in skateboarding and life have been lived in this shoe. Hear from Sheckler and Chris Joslin about skating the etnies Marana everywhere from the Cologne, Germany stair set to the Davis Gap.
The day Joslin filmed a 360 flip on the Davis Gap, he was wearing a fresh pair of etnies OG Maranas that were fresh out of the box. To celebrate the Marana’s first 10 years, etnies is releasing four of the original colorways for a limited time, with iconic photos of Sheckler and Joslin skating in the Marana on the footbed.
The OG Red Marana featuring Sheckler’s switch flip in Cologne, Germany; The OG Black Marana featuring Joslin’s frontside flip in Japan, which was the Transworld SKATEboarding cover; the OG Brown/Gum Marana featuring Joslin’s Davis Gap 360 flip; and the OG Black/White/Gum Marana featuring Sheckler’s Monster Children cover from down under.
The OG Marana was so durable that skaters were wearing through the outsole before the upper. In 2017, etnies teamed up with Michelin to rebuild the Marana outsole to create the world’s toughest skate shoe that’s 3X more durable. As part of the 10 Years of the Marana Celebration, etnies created a limited-edition silver Marana Michelin with the 10 Years Strong branding on the tongue and footbed. Thank you guys & Etnies for creating the best skate shoe on the market. I've worn countless pairs of Maranas & Joslins in a row for the last 3 yrs now because they hold up so well & also hold onto that comfort without losing that boardfeel. I even wear them when I go walking because they are so hard wearing & also comfortable, & I know a few people who don't skate who swear by them for walking or wear them for work 😂. I know that Co's like to end a shoes production after a while or start to skimp out on the shoes quality by making it thinner, but please do not stop making this awesome shoe in its current form. It's stood the test of time & people are loyal to it for a reason, thank you x

Definitely enjoyed some maranas over the years and my Joslins have held up beautifully. Have half a mind to cop a couple extra pairs in different colour ways just to add to the collection. A really beautiful shoe. I’ve experimented with some other brands that I also really like but none of them are as light and durable as the Joslin / Marana

The Marana is hands down the best skateboarding shoe ever made. I've had 7 pairs of these since 2015 and I recently got another one. The impact protection is literally so good I can skate for 3 hours and my feet will still be fine after the session. I have other favourites like the eS Accel Plus, eS Quattro and Joslin 1's which also have excellent performance but none of them have the iconic silhouette of the Marana. The thing with this shoe is that it hits the perfect balance of "puff" on the upper so it's not too bulky and heavy, and it also hits the perfect balance of outsole/midsole thickness for the impact protection. The flick is also super consistent and the heel area is beefy so the heelflips feel very nice.

Sheckler Switch Flip doesnt get played often enough cuz he rarely does the, but that one in Germany was so sick

These were the longest lasting shoes I've ever had and they helped a lot with impact. I'm a heavier weightlifter nowadays but I still skate on occasion. These have saved my feet so many times.

Such an iconic shoe, and it truly lives up to the hype. I landed my first tre flip in them and I can honestly say that they were my favourite pair of shoes ever. Just wish we had easier access to them in SA!

The Marana OG are all re-issues. For the last 10 years the Marana has been Sheckler's pro shoe.

What’s a good Etnies show with the “m” logo. I love that logo nowadays. My 3 initials and yet back then I just loved the normal Etnies logo
Never had a pro model or newer version of etnies. Only has the old bulky ones from Ross as a child. But I had a pair of jerry hsu emericas and they had sti insoles. Most comfortable out the box insoles ever. Don’t need aftermarket insoles if you buy shoes that already got the best!

I have a new pair of Joslin’s that my pinky toe is starting to bust through the side of the shoe. It’s not from skateboarding either just normal use. Can you guys do anything for me about this?

No bullshit if these foo’s are doing the shit they’ve accomplished and are still going…you know those shoes do work and help out. But of course some kids, and other peeps, care too much on how they look instead of worrying about landing and getting something on camera or no camera it’s cool.
There is no better shoe imo. My 7 year old daughter got them too because it's flexible enough so you only have to tie the shoe once, then it basically become a slip on. 😅
