I watched the whole 5 hour plus long-form interview with Nick Irving. Took a couple days, but it was time well spent. Fascinating guy. Fascinating interview.
Same here! Just finished today and had it as hour long segments during my workout. Highly recommend!
@@alexpippins3363 That's a good one for working out. I always listen to something when I'm on the treadmill. These days it's classical music and an hour of prayer, which is really interesting if you've never tried it. Prior to that I would often listen to audio books. Here's one for you that's worth a listen, and will get you through several MONTHS. "The Book of a Thousand Nights and a Night," A.K.A. "The Arabian Nights." It's the story of Shahrazad telling stories to her husband Shahryar every night so he wouldn't kill her, and it's literally a thousand nights and night. I'm not a muslim, but once you get into it it's hard to put it down. ruclips.net/video/O6UiP_f_Ero/видео.html
Thanks crazy thing is I was trying to breakdown how to watch and actually digest it all. Hour intervals sounds great
@@dennishenry3188 When watching a real long video I usually break up my sessions by the chapter breaks on the video playback bar. That way I listen to complete topics and when I pick it up later I'm not starting in the middle of something. Probably the same way Shawn breaks up his long-form videos into shorter sections. JAT
I remember those team leader "Wall-To-Wall" counseling sessions well. 😊
So grateful I never was in war. Thank you for doing what others can’t or won’t .
They were NEVER suppose to be there... smarten up.
@Sun-ic7rq Talk about pride. You must be something special to know something noooobdy else in the Shawn Ryan comments section knows. Oh wait, you're just incapable of separating the individual's service and intentions from the manipulation and scheming of the government. At the end of the day you're not a 1/1000th of the man he is.
@@Sun-ic7rq "Smarten up" be quiet
PTSD in story format. Prayers for all those who have had such an experience. Downtime is the worst to process all of that.
That dream he described is disturbing
lol just a little!
So imagine all those soldiers in Ukraine war. Yesterday there was released a video of a russian soldier who came home from war he was walking on the street with a knife and threatening to unlive kids who went past by him. There's a little chance you can come home normal.

I'm just here for the weirdos, who want to keep bringing up Nick's mistake/accident of "the 50 cal" claim. Y'all worse than a disgruntled ex wife, bringing up stuff that doesn't even matter. When he did more than most of multiple of your lifetimes put together. If a random SEAL or another "SOF youtuber" like Shipley you would've still been waiting to come for air off your knees. This episode and guest was great Shawn! I hope they make the series for Nick.
Are you talking about when he said if a 50cal comes close to you and doesn't hit you it will still blow your arm off?
Wait hold on…. Isn’t this the same guy who said “shooting a 50cal. Within a few feet from an enemy combatant will actually tear limbs right off their body” …. lol just sayin 🤷♂️ … 🤦♂️…

Powerful, powerful stuff. Thank you for allowing us to listen to this man.
Nick is a true gentleman and warrior, glad we have men like him on our side. I hope you find peace brother, and thank you.
I could never put myself in situation to be on a podcast of THIS size and discuss my past traumas, fear, etc.
I give Nick and most people on this podcast so much credit for being so open. And Shawn does a great job allowing them to go down these rabbit holes of emotions.
Great stuff. Moving
Yep
It's because he's a textbook psychopath and he likes to share his stories to garner "narcissistic supply".
It's a selfless act, it helps others.
Going behind the container and seeing nothing but NCO’s/squad leaders 😂
There’s a young man who is in the Green Berets that I am very concerned about right now, I want him back in the states. I have no idea where he is and I fear that Joe Biden is going to get a lot of brave young American men and women killed in the next few months…..
I'm sorry. I will pray for him. I know that God too cares about justice, and he will not let the evil rulers get away with it forever.
I remember when Shawn Ryan started the podcast... it's great to see it's going great! (and Reaper is a legend!), greetings from Italy
Ciao fratello, che Italia viva in sempieterna! Grazie per la amicizia. Spero che nel futuro l'America havrà un rispetto più profondo per la libertà d'Italia. Amore dal Dixieland.

That dream would’ve fucked me up
It's not the dream....
It was the sight/ events.
Bad Dreams shouldn't scare you when you're awake.
I found my 68 year old Mother with her head in a 2 ft wide pool of blood in the bathroom after she fell and cracked her head open on the tile...
I called an ambulance, and luckily they are literally like a mile away, but they came and got my Ma and she ended up being alright.
I had dreams about her in a pool of blood for a good while after that but the dreams don't bother me, it's her falling again and not being found in time or something like that happening that bothers me while I'm awake...
This dude is cool,,,just smooth
This man and his comrades have life experiences most of us can never comprehend. Thank you for giving him a platform to tell his story, I hope he has peace and good health.
Thank you both for your service!!
It’s incredible how our body/minds help us to deal with trauma! I can’t imagine what happens when they have down time and the endorphins release all that’s been seen and done and the mental anguish comes flooding in! God Bless these people! 🙏🏽✌🏽❤️🇺🇸
Bathing in his blood 😂 dope interview 😊
I love your show Ryan. This is by far my fav interview.

You can’t unsee what you’ve seen, prayers for you brother I feel your pain.
Ammonia not chlorine 😊
Been following his career/story. Fucking savage!
My cousins ex-husband was a Marine Sniper. I hadn't seen him in years, then stopped him on a traffic stop about 7 years after Desert Storm. As he spoke and described his kills to me, he literally lookes through me and had this blankness on his face. We talked for a few, and he went on to work at one of the Federal Prisons in Beaumont, TX.
Thank you for your sacrifice. I pray you find peace brother
This guy is not a robin at all , he’s a dark knight 💯
Love this guys story
This was one of the most interesting interviews ever.
Chlorine bombs were fucking wild.....
I wonder if he still believes in the 50 cal miss and arm ripping off Theory.
That thumbnail is doing the dude dirty lol
Thanks to both of you for doing this. I have never had a similar experience, and would never feel qualified to even ask about what terrible things people like this have lived through. . Aside from your conversation being very interesting, it makes me very grateful to him and other vets, and equally, it makes me furious that our government foolishly wastes so many lives of capable, good people.
Im Danish, and was in the army asked to go to Sergeant training. I said I would, but that I would like som experience first, I signed a contract to go to Kosovo but was called into a meeting with a Captain. He explained that Kosovo was full and he wanted me for Afghanistan and I said I would think about it. I went back, called my boss (I was on leave from my job) and he offered me a “big” raise to come back. I ended up never going and went back to my job, that boss got me other jobs as he left and brought me with him. But boy could life have been different. I have the outmost respect for these veterans 🫡

I paid for a book from him and someone else! I never got it but I’ll pay again to hear nick’s story!
When he said the handful of team leaders took care of things the way they do, is he saying they jumped him?
Yes.
It's called a "Wall-to-Wall" counseling session. I remember them well 😊
You should leave their name in the title, and a link to the full video in the description.
I would think that being a machine gunner in Iraq would be a heavy situation with lots of bodies

Oh yeah did he barely miss him and blow off his leg?
Did they jump him ??? Or at least give him a 1v1 ?

Bro used the butterfly triggers like Hathcock and also had his superior hit him and yelled to Engage just like Hathcock when the VC was riding a Buffalo I think in the Hathcock book a story about air-pressure from 667grain bullet tumbling could kill VC if close enough passing by I could be wrong.
Nope, won't happen and bullets shouldn't be tumbling unless deflected. Bullets can't both go straight and tumble, although there's a myth about bullets doing it.
Good on you man. Thanks for sharing brother. I just repress everything, I’m sure it’s not detrimental to my health…. Medboard will decide soon.

And "shortsided" has never been a phrase. I think you mean "short-sighted"
Target! Range!
@1:34 is he saying that he skipped the rounds off the hood into the drivers seat because he's not able to shoot that caliber at the personnel? I keep seeing mixed comments on the web about it being against the rules of war to engage .50cal on infantry and it should only be used on equipment. Amazing interview! thanks...
no, that whole "cant engage infantry with a .50" thing is kind of misconstrued BS. The idea that it should only be used on equipment is because the weapons weren't designed with the precision to engage man sized targets. .50's are designed to tear apart cover light armored vehicles ETC. Naturally a M2 has a lot of recoil so If something is coming at you its easier to just start shooting low and let the recoil carry the burst up into the target. If you aimed and fired directly at the driver your first round or two MIGHT impact or come close but if you fire the first few low and the recoil kind of "stabilizes" you can put the rest of the burst in a pretty tight area.
@@wackoman544 appreciate the response!.. thank you!
Is it possible that "PTSD" is the result of military guys having to come home after serving and being expected to "feel bad" for the enemy they killed?
PTSD is something built from personal experience. Peoples expectations doesnt effect whether or not someone has it. You got to be missing a chromosome to even say some dumb shit like that
@quilluntouchableentity2034 Yeah. XD
7:40 it’s weird how this part gets glazed over and that Shawn doesn’t ask what happened.
They beat him up for not listening.
Shawn and everyone else knows what happened, he got whooped
If you need an explanation I feel sorry for you. He says point blank "it got rectified, you fall in line real quick"
Nothing to glaze over. Sounds like he got his ass beat. It happens. This is isn't summer camp. You take your lumps and do better. They're actually making you better. And, compared to combat...a little motivational session is nothing. He's a man. He knew. Alright. I fucked up. I'm with the program, now. No excuses.
