    Another WW2 era sniper was utterly convinced he would hear the 'gasps' they made and they'd match "SHise!' accents, what he supposed they sounded like, matching injury (a neck shot 'gurgllle kahhh' and a head shot silent exhale as they fell etc. An olympic high jumper swore he absolutely hears the bar 'buzzing' like an electric swishing noise as he bends over it in mid-air. but it cannot possibly make such a noise yet his brain makes it happen.
    It does makes sense in the way the brain needs to reconcile seeing them that close but needs to create a story or natural glue of things. We do that watching movies. You've probably done it. you are 100 for sure, you know you heard the baddies body make a sound 'thump!' but if you watch again and pay attention it did NOT make any sounds and that includes the original VHS copy. We had to 'fill it in' so that it made some kind of cohesive meaning to match our eyes and the scene.

    Some of what this guy says does not ring true. I was a 5th marines scout sniper in Vietnam from Oct 67 to Nov 68. I was with the second battalion 5th marines at Hue City in February’68. I had 17 confirmed KIAs in the battle for Hue alone and I’ve never heard snipers talk this way. He’s in and out with range estimates and situational anecdotes. His body language and verbal intonation does not sound authentic to me. Maybe it’s just the difference between me and my guys and this sniper. Adding this edit: maybe I would not sound authentic being interviewed either, but then again I would never submit to an interview and I don’t know any sniper of my generation who would.

The vast majority of killing is by air strikes and the vast majority of shooting is suppressive fire at an area target or possible enemy positions. He got to shoot more than a few people, but it really doesn't make him a remarkable sniper. He was in the right place at the right time and he was marketable, which is why he is now a "somebody." Nerves man... first time... target may have been moving in an unpredictable way as well... walking perhaps and with equipment so not a steady pace. We dont' know, cause we weren't there. Zero could have been off as well. Could have had a can on the SR25 that affected the zero as well. If it was through the side of the body... and not straight on... that's a fairly slim target while moving at 300 plus yards. .308 isn't super accurate either. probably 1MOA at best with military ammo. So you've got 3" of variability with that alone.
      At any rate.. you probably don't have much experience in combat so you shouldn't be assuming anything.

      you mean that VLAD video? He never said he did that. He said a .50 could do that, and it sounds like typical Joe tall tales spread in the barracks. The only .50 cal story he states as fact is when a gunner hit a RPG guy and it took his top clean off. First story was definitely dumb, and 2nd one is at least possible. That being said I don’t think it discredits everything he’s done especially with other guys in batt being with him on 3 deployments.

    • @justinobrien1097
      @justinobrien1097 2 месяца назад +1

      @bluestfalcon419 he said he watched a body turn to goo from a .50 cal round. Weird, I know lots of 75th guys who don't know who this guy is. Not saying he wasn't in 3/75 just saying I don't buy all of the "confirmed kills".

    • @bluestfalcon419
      @bluestfalcon419 2 месяца назад

      Well, even if you discount his kills, to 3, dude was still in batt and deployed multiple times. Not sure it’s fair to just outright call him a liar if he’s just exaggerating or misspeaking about things like people turning into goo. I’ve heard plenty of people tell me after a fight things like how “this dude unloaded a full clip,” or “this dude’s dome popped off,” when in it wasn’t exactly the case. I wouldn’t call them a liar since I know they were on the objective, but they added a bit of dramatics to it. I get what you’re saying but yea, not sure he’s an outright lying SOB like some are making it seem.
