This has been a question raised on stream as well, and honestly I still have no idea how these boats worked - whether the diesels could be clutched directly to the propellor shafts, or only to the electric motors/generators. I have no clue, and should probably do more research. I do know that, in many modern snorkel boats, the diesels are completely separate. But in WWII boats the diesels are in-line with the props for a reason.
@@fiftyfour5454 There are 2 seperate clutches in a U-boat. One for coupling diesels to E-motors and one for propellers so it is implemented accurately in the game.
Sound: I'm more interested in controlling sound volume. Before the Beta, all the effects were the same control and I find them uneven. Some things are louder than I want and others I can't hear at all without cranking my computer's master volume. I don't really need to hear the ocean rushing past my boat but I do want to hear the hydrophones. Separate volume controls for some of the sounds are needed. An on screen volume control for the hydrophone would be great as well.
Yep. All the effects are still on the same channel, which means there are a lot of things you will never hear unless you're willing to have realistically deafening explosions and guns.
There's a mod for SH4 called "Beneath the Med" which is pretty good, but like you, I'd like to see a dedicated British, Soviet or Japanese sub simulator. Anything but more U-boats 🙂
Yes! And American subs too. I wish uboat would make a multi theater sub sim. Where you could play German, British, or American sub campaigns from WWII. Maybe even some Japanese. No one has ever made a jap sub sim I DON’T think.
As far as the gameplay is concerned, it doesn't matter if someone has a commission - just whether or not they are considered an 'officer.' So I believe the answer is no.
just like the silent hunter games is there an option to choose an easy type mode when it comes to firing torpedos without having to calculate it all by yourself?
Yeah the brest airraid was fun to watch though the entrance is easily clipped in autopilot too. The new boats were certainly fun. The new missions like getting sick etc from what i've seen have been well implimented. A sailor who is injured in combat or an event may have a more serious injury and require time in hospital or if someone is attacked due to low dicipline you may want to courtmartial them.
The type 2a honestly looks like they used the extra width from the saddle tanks to expand the room inside. The engine room should definitely be tighter in spacing and more akin to the type vii engine spacing. Now, I am not sure if they made this design decision because of fears that the control room would be harder for players to maneuver around npc's or they made a mistake when "measuring" the inside diameter. One clue is that the bulkheads look more oval than they should. One other "issue" that bothers me is the lack of bulkhead doors. Love the game, just hope/wish the interior was more cramped to reflect the rl design.
They definitely made it bigger so your crew doesn't get stuck, but I would prefer if they just removed collision between crew members; that seems to me like a less egregious concession of realism.
I literally went and bought a new computer with this game in mind. Yes, I actually needed to replace my computer. It wasn't just buying it for this game, but I wanted to make sure that whatever I bought would run this thing without any problem. I'm a big silent Hunter fan. I remember the very first silent Hunter which probably shows my age, but this game is by far the best submarine game ever produced. And what little negatives they are, are annoying but overall not much to complain about. Honestly my largest complaint about the game is that I can't seem to control the volume of the voices of my crew either. Something's too loud or something's too soft.. My only other complaint was that the ships sank way too fast, but fortunately there's a mod for realistic ship sinking which makes it much better.
A SH player who likes UBOAT? Unheard of. But you are absolutely correct about the audio balancing. The curve for loudness based on proximity (for voices, explosions, aircraft engines, and more) is way too steep, and often results in the sounds 'peaking' against the in-game 'microphone.' In my opinion this is actually one of the biggest issues with the game as things currently stand, but I think fixing it would require a complete overhaul of those systems. But we put up with that, because no other submarine game, to your point, lets you do all the things that uboat lets you do.
as far as I know, there have been no significant efforts towards optimization. Perhaps making the game work is deemed more important than making it run.
I bought this game early in development and had some fun with it. What I came to realize is that: the diminished crew size mechanics impact game play in unacceptable ways.
I was enjoying first person...until I had to get crates out of the water...having to carry all that loot one at a time down to the storage. It killed me.

I can't wait to try it out. Just downloaded the beta today. Been a few months since I've played cause I've been on a SH3 binge, and like the other guy said, I'm all about immersion which SH3 has plenty of. Needless to say, this update does look much better than the previous version. Going in the right direction, that's for sure.
I just downloaded the One Alex version, Still getting used to the controls. I'm looking forward for what you've both has to offer as I've had to mod the game extensively. The Wolf Pack game looked really good but it's lacking The universe.
@Dazza_Doo OneAlex is what I play. Took a bit to get used to, but I think that's because it's so immersive. Yeah, there are hiccups here and there, like the specific things you shouldn't do to prevent crashes and file corruption, but I have yet to run into much of those issues except a crash or maybe two in around 150hrs. Still don't know what I did to have that happen, which, in the end, is like any other game I've played and had a random crash. For the immersion, I play SH3 (OneAlex). To blast away a large amount of ships in a short time frame, I play Uboat. Until Uboat gets ahead in immersion, SH3 will still be my go-to. This is NOT a knock on Uboat. The game is still loads of fun, and I'll be starting a new campaign soon once a lot of the new betas bugs are straightened out.
I can't play this game for long because the constant ticking clock when using time compression in the map screen gets very annoying and tiresome after a while
I had a crew member get TB on my first patrol. It wasn’t game changing and I think I got crew experience and morale for getting back to port for he died. I like it. My biggest 2 grips right now are the reduced crew sizes compared to historical reality and the stored torps not being modeled.
My issue with TB as it stands now is A) It happens like every other patrol, and those guys just seem to hang out in your UI in port for the rest of the war; they don't recover and you can't get rid of them. B) Much more importantly, crew members with TB or long-term injuries cannot be moved to other beds, even when they are in an officer bunk preventing officers from sleeping, or in front of a Torpedo tube preventing that fish from being loaded or maintained. That is, quite frankly, bullshit.
This is great news! (ok, except the crate issue) I was a particular fan of the Silent Hunter series, particularly IV with Trigger Maru Overhaul, I've thought the game seemed quite promising I may actually venture into the beta (!) 🙂
Frankly until the UBOAT devs discover that what makes games fun is immersion and difficulty, I'm going to keep playing modded SH3. UBOAT is tedious and easy while SH3 automated and abstracts everything for you while actually being hard.
Modded SH3, modded not vanilla. Of course if you heavily mod SH3 it becomes a decent subsim but remember that unlike U-boat you can't micro manage damage control (just add sailors to the damage squad and that's it), you can't manage your food, your sailors work schedule, you can't even manually fire your deck gun. Missions are always patrol you can't, like U-boat, carry a spy or a war reporter, you can't lay down mine, etc. SH3 has only fixed camera positions instead in U-boat you can see all the compartment, explore the sub and look at all the little details. Please, the final release is not out yet, this is just a beta and they added a LOT of stuff, new submarines, new equipments, etc. Wait until they push the 1.0 and then you can complain, maybe, because for now it's just an unstable branch beta so you can't expect too much. P.S: U-boat has mod too btw...
@@gotanon9659 I have literally 75 mods installed on UBOAT and it is still unplayable garbage compared to SH3 with just the OneAlex modpack. UBOAT in its basegame state isn't even worth a free download.
I don’t know. I honestly think Uboat is pretty immersive. None of the Silent Hunter games that I know don’t allow you to fully explore your ship. Silent Hunter 5 yes, though I was disappointed when I figured out none of your crew will go to compartment to compartment. They just sort of stay there and repeat animations. Rooms also don’t get flooded, and if they do it’s only floor levels of water. When I got the game I was really expecting, “wow my crew are able to walk! They’ll eat food and have conversations!” Nope. That back then was my biggest, biggest wish to see for a submarine game. A crew where they can walk, get injured, panic, get in your way while you’re going through the bulk heads. But hey, I was excited when I saw the trailer of Uboat. Back to the flooding, sure silent hunter has their games show you in a menu that a compartment is flooding. But in Uboat, oh boy. I can see it’s flooded, and if I open it. That’s a lotta water coming in. I guess that’s pretty immersive and wow I actually have to walk to the deck gun instead of pressing a button to teleport to the deck gun. I missed the TDC so I kept playing SH4. But hey, no need. Beta gave us a TDC and a way to manually flood, open and launch torpedos. In general, Uboat is immersive for me and without mods either. Edit: Hi… I forgot to say. Even though I love Uboat’s immersiveness. I find it to be super easy, even in the most difficult options. The silent hunter games I fine to be more hard which can be enjoyable. But then I end up missing going around my boat and feeling the immersion of the game.
UBOAT is too easy for you? Maybe try mods like the realistic chart mod for a little less handholding. As other commenters said, this game has way more going on than any SH game, classic as they are. A little bit of workshop and you should be able to tinker the difficulty exactly how you want. And personally, I never found the realism of UBOAT tedious. Perhaps hardcore sims just aren't for you, and you should play something a bit more casual. I've heard Barotrauma is pretty fun ;)
I got this years ago and it reminded me of Silent hunter and that Silent Hunter was a better game in most the ways that I care about. Like the icons and just lack of realism compared to SH. Maybe I will DL and give it another try. I would like to like it.
The beautiful thing about UBOAT is that it allows itself to be played in many different ways. I prefer to play as the submarine rather than as the skipper, but we all have different kinds of fun.

@@justwowmanplays2941 Isn't save file corruption in the base game?
August 2nd!
This game is still not released? Back to the vaporware list.
Its getting close to 1.0 and you can play a pretty feature dense version now. I don't see how its vaporware
How many types of Sub are there or you stuck only one type which hope not
I think there are like 5 now, the type II, which is a small costal submarine, and a couple of Type VII variants,

I support this
Uboat is on the right track. I can’t wait for the type 9 uboats.
Real water is Salty!
My issue with TB as it stands now is
A) It happens like every other patrol, and those guys just seem to hang out in your UI in port for the rest of the war; they don't recover and you can't get rid of them.
B) Much more importantly, crew members with TB or long-term injuries cannot be moved to other beds, even when they are in an officer bunk preventing officers from sleeping, or in front of a Torpedo tube preventing that fish from being loaded or maintained. That is, quite frankly, bullshit.
@@fiftyfour5454 B is definitely frustrating. I feel like both of these issues should be an easy fix for the Dev
This is great news! (ok, except the crate issue) I was a particular fan of the Silent Hunter series, particularly IV with Trigger Maru Overhaul, I've thought the game seemed quite promising I may actually venture into the beta (!) 🙂
Since when will it be available in playstore (mobile) 😢
When the Pope is no longer Catholic.
When you need a MOD to make the Game somewhat enjoyable then UBOAT shits all over SH3 then
@@gotanon9659 I have literally 75 mods installed on UBOAT and it is still unplayable garbage compared to SH3 with just the OneAlex modpack.
I've heard Barotrauma is pretty fun ;)
so no optimisation ? it runs like shit for a 1.0 ..
on your pc from 2002? yeah i bet
@@tonedpeter from 1864
I got this years ago and it reminded me of Silent hunter and that Silent Hunter was a better game in most the ways that I care about. Like the icons and just lack of realism compared to SH. Maybe I will DL and give it another try. I would like to like it.
Many of us are in that same Uboat, Captain. /o
It's definitely getting there when played in full realism mode.
My guy, you're playing the game wrong! You have to play legit and on hardcore mode 10/10 !! Way more rewarding !
The beautiful thing about UBOAT is that it allows itself to be played in many different ways. I prefer to play as the submarine rather than as the skipper, but we all have different kinds of fun.
Hope it someday comes to XBox....sigh
this is clickbait for me....title says: full release....not nice, dude...
I'm sorry you feel that way, but this is, more or less, the build that will be going out in a week or two. And I address the complexities of that situation in the first 30 seconds.
@@fiftyfour5454 are you really that far away from understanding? beta test ist NOT full release...and that is what you mentioned, as far as i watched the video...and then think about the title of your video...again....a full release is NOT a beta-test and the other way around. get that in your mind.....this is clickbait...end of sentence.
@@viper31stvfw86 The main changes will be included in the full release. Beta build possibly has more bugs or issues, imbalances etc. For all intents and purposes, it's not so clickbaity. However your tryhard trolling is lame.
@@Arnechk what the heck are you talking about? i read the title, clicked on it and within the first 30 second of the video, that dude said: ....actually not the full release, bla-bla...beta test.
because you are so smart, i will explain this again to you....for me it is clickbait, cause the title is a lie to catch people´s attention, to generate clicks. there is nothing complex about, what i said, and also it is not hard to understand....it is very simple....the title, dude...it is the title...and also i am not trolling...but maybe you are too smart to see this...
Far too much crew organisation for me.
You don't actually have to interact with those systems that much if you don't want to. Just turn off food in the settings and leave all the task priorities as default.
