Mario's catchphrase is "Oh yeah! Mario time!". This memorable catchphrase is just one of the reasons why Mario is such a loved character still today, but Mario wasn't the only one with a catchphrase. His brother Luigi regularly said "Okie dokie", thus earning a famous catchphrase of his own.

For those who didnt understand Link one from Twillight Princess, this armored skeleton IS LINK from a past timeline. Link from Majora's Mask is the same Link from Ocarina of Time. And Link from Phantom Hourglass is the same from The Wind Waker, but other than those 2 yeah they're all different
Not exactly. Link is the same person reincarnating, this is further clarified in Skyward sword. And the version of Link we see him talking to there is from the same timeline, not a different one. It's never explained exactly how he's talking to his own past life but I kind of imagine it's something like how it goes in Avatar: The Last airbender.
Silent protagonists typically do speak, just rarely verbally/in the dialogue box. Take Crono from Chrono Trigger, for instance. The developers wanted you to feel you were playing the game from his perspective, so he never speaks in the dialogue box. He still does technically speak, but through selectable dialogue responses or by telling an NPC something outside of the dialogue box.
Nintendo's developers have said that they don't want to spoil the player's imagination of how the heroes speak. In 1997, the old Star Fox crew spoke quite a bit in Star Fox 64 with some of our favourite one liners "Do a Barrel roll!" still memorable to this very day. Metroid Prime 3 also had recorded speech.
Also, hearing Samus speak the Chozo language in Dread, even for just a single scene, was NUTS. Definitely one of the most memorable scenes from the game.

Does Mario really count a silent character the number of sounds, Italian speaking in the games and the shows, plus in nearly every Mario game he would say Yahoo! Or some veration of that!
In the "Pokémon Adventures" manga, Red actually talks a lot, and blue is the quiet one, that then slowly and subtly changes throughout the series. Not exactly canon but I thought I'd share.

I don't think Mario should count as a Silent Voice Protagonist since he did speak more than just Mario Golf, Mario Party, and Hotel Mario. Also, Donkey Kong shouldn't count here as well, Donkey Kong does speak in the Donkey Kong Country games as well.
There's also one more from Link in Zelda Phantom Hourglass, when you reach the fire island you have to shout in your mic to rescue someone that was kidnapped

I think the text blurbs don't count for link. I feel like it's more of he's thinking to himself rather than talking. You can argue that he does have dialouge options however most can be easily expressed using facial movements or gestures so I don't think those count either. Although link yelling "Come on!" IS speech therefore Link can canonically talk. Honestly the silent protagonist thing doesn't make much sense because from a realistic perspective what else is the protagonist supposed to say when defeating "evil", witty one liners? It seems more like a personality trait than anything to only speak when in the presence of someone who you can talk to.

In the Game and Watch Gallery games, Mario presents the various mini games with a long speech, alongside Mr. Game & Watch.
Kirby once said: “I feel like apple pie”

I think the text blurbs don't count for link. I feel like it's more of he's thinking to himself rather than talking.
You can argue that he does have dialouge options however most can be easily expressed using facial movements or gestures so I don't think those count either.
Although link yelling "Come on!" IS speech therefore Link can canonically talk.
Honestly the silent protagonist thing doesn't make much sense because from a realistic perspective what else is the protagonist supposed to say when defeating "evil", witty one liners? It seems more like a personality trait than anything to only speak when in the presence of someone who you can talk to.
To be fair, he did at least consider talking crap about groose' hair.
I mean yeah. Pretty sure they’re not covering solely verbal speech, but just them talking in general.
He does seem to be talking out of shock in Link's awakening which wouldn't be out of character considering he just found out the truth
Mario is a silent protagonist even in games where he isn’t the main character. He either stays silent or have someone talk for him. I wonder why?
Red has such a way with words!
Yoshi keeps getting trapped in eggs apparently, which paints a different picture about those eggs he throws sometimes
