Love the lamp! I would be really careful engaging with wild street piles - you can leave your scent on them, and then their mother pile won’t take care of them ):
Such good advice. I made sure to closely watch the pile for a period of several days and was confident it must've lost its mother pile somewhere along the way
I know this is a joke, but for anyone who actually thinks this about birds, deer, or any other baby animal, it isn’t true at all. Never was, and even decades after the original claim, people still repeat this myth every day. You are fine to touch babies, just don’t keep them for too long.
@@SnailHatan It's still far better to not mess with 'abandoned' babies until you've watched for a long while and know they're abandoned, especially if you're moving them from a spot that isn't unsafe. Especially with baby kittens, mom has to go hunting and isn't going to be guarding the litter 24/7 the way pet cats who have their food dish right next to them do.
Always gonna let the rot be rot over here (even though adding a bunch of resin would probably finally get the longform algorithm on my side, lol), a bunch of glittery colored resin is simply not my personal style.
I think resin is dope in those tables and things that people make with raw wood, but this piece definitely looks better without it. The natural architecture created by the rot feels so tangible this way. Truly a gorgeous lamp.
Your videos help me see beauty in the world; while we live in a day when we're surrounded by so much hatred and destruction, you bring love and beautiful creations. Thank you❤
Not gonna lie, I had some concerns that the log was going to cancel your subscription to life. I'm glad you survived and showed us how gorgeous it was on the inside! Thanks for another cool video!
My 7 year old has been inspired by your videos to work with wood in the future. I love your stuff and love that you make family-friendly content! Also, my kiddos know what chatoyancy is!! Thank you for great content!!
Hey Justin. My HOA decided to replace our aged water pipes and I was super bummed to find out they're going to have to take out my tree. I live in the SL area and if you're interested in adding to your pile it would make me feel better about the whole thing if a piece of it had the chance to live on in one of your videos.
A while ago, I said to myself that I was gonna try watching more of your longform content, but I never got around to it. I’m trying to work more on my focus now, and this is the first longform video of yours I finished. It’s so much better than watching shorts (though, those are wonderful, too!!) because I actually get to see more of the process, and it feels like a comfortable vlog. Thank you for these! Your content is lovely, and now I feel I’m getting better at focusing in a world that wants to suck us into one minute videos.
Beautiful!! Perfect. No LEDs needed!! Love your tips and stories! You taught me a lot about trees. I started watching because my 4 year old SonSHINE lovessss trees. I wanted to learn so I can teach him. Your energy has a bigger ripple than you know!!! Thanks for sharing yourself and gifts with the world! I wish you an immeasurable amount of success with your channel! 🤍
Love the simple chamfered design of this lamp! In my mind i was imagining the classic, bulbous, curved lamp. The design you chose looks fabulous and shows off the beauty of the log
I came here after watching the short. I like this guy. He just appears to be a nice, decent human being who enjoys creating stuff with his hands, and I dig that. I have to say it sucks that the only people I would consider hanging out with and talking to in person are complete strangers on RUclips. Everyone I know in real life, I don't care to speak to much. Besides a few exceptions
My first time watching one of your long form videos. I was thinking there’s be almost an hour long and boring. Silly me. You could seriously never be boring. I love you videos! And SUCH A BEAUTIFUL lamp!
Hey man, just want to thanks you so much. Your videos are just amazing and are so cheerful, I can help but smile. You inspired me to get my dad’s old bandsaw and try working with some wood. It’s amazing man, hope you continue making stuff like this.
I don't hop on RUclips terribly often anymore but when i see one of your vids come up on my feed I always click. I love your genuine love of trees! And this lamp came out beautifully!
That is a gorgeous lamp! I am so happy with how the rot turned out and I think that LEDs would diminish the natural beauty of the piece. Like resin, they have their place and can look good, but I do not think they fit on this piece.
I admire your eye & design sense. The lamp is perfect and your treatment of it honors the life challenges of the tree! Thank you for sharing you projects & processes, I'm so glad the algorithm brought your artistry & craftsmanship & humor into my life!
Beautiful! You should use Mitre glues instead of a hot glue gun once you are sure it fits. It would maintain it way more strongly and resist better to hot temperature that your light bulb can create. Otherwise love this project ❤
this guy is the type of guy i watch before i go to bed so that it calms me down and just makes me realize how talented people can be! his videos are legendary I love them.
If only I could throw my body on a laith, and shape myself into something new and beautiful. Wood is amazing. The people who can see through to the heart of a piece, are treasures. Thanks for amazing content. Sorry for all the times I forget to like the videos, after enjoying them.
That turned out beautifully! Watching your pure joy at completing a task is such a vibe. (shout out to the Lazy Susan) You post such enjoyable content. And agree with other posters - so glad you didn’t fill the hole with resin. The perfection is in it not being perfect.
That was marvelous! I love the final piece! I'm really impressed with what you made and the fact that you didn't fill the hole with resin really pleased me hugely, as the hole is simply part of the tree's lifespan and its.history. i like how the piece finally came out and adding the standard bulb with a simple lampshade really allowed the base to be the centre piece of the lamp. God bless you and your loved ones. Have a great weekend!
Thank you for sharing this with us! This video was a wonderful way to start my day and I'm so chuffed with all the choices you made. Your lamp is such a fab example of wood being its glorious self!
I love seeing your piles and piles of scrap wood in the background. Makes me feel as though I am not alone with the piles of scrap wood in my workshop!
Ahhhhh!!! 900k?!? You're almost there!!! And a lamp finally! Yes. It's looks Great. Thank you for all your hard work. Very entertaining and also informative. Excellence.
When I saw that hole I thought that would be cool making that into a scene of a waterfall/ pool. Would love a lamp like that. You've got a God given gift.
As soon as you applied the wax, the beauty came out. Wonderful! You mentioned some people wanting you to put leds in, but I can't help but want to turn that cavity into a faux geode or add swirled resin. Add some sparkle while still keeping with a "natural" look.
LEDs? How? It looks great as a traditional lamp. And soooo interestingly beautiful! I like the rotted section as well, gives a huge amount of character. I am not like some others that don't apparently like resin at all, there are plenty of pieces with and without resin that I like. To me it is personal style and how the individual piece looks. Your chosen shape is not my personal favorite, but it does help show off the characteristics of the wood, which on this piece (and MANY of your others) I find absolutely gorgeous and so interesting! And as you have said over and over, bringing out individual characteristics of the wood is your POINT. Since I don't work with wood, my fear is that the finish in those deep spots won't stop the rot process. Always looking to see the new things you find.
Not sure about the how. But, let me present the why. I think it would be amazing to have just a tiny number of glimmering light sources out of sight down in the rot cavern so that the depth and complexity of it can be shown off even under less than ideal lighting. Even just as he turned the lamp on at 9:03 the video and my old low contrast eyes could no longer see any detail, just the bare outline of the cavern. It is a fascinating bit of topography and should be beautiful in more than just direct side illumination.
The rotted bit really adds so much character to the lamp. Sure, it might look "nicer" if it weren't rotted, but (personally) I love it all the more because of it. Its 5am but I'm really enjoying watching your videos so...maybe just one more before bed 😂
That is some absolutely amazing work. The hole was absolutely worth keeping as is When i work with a chunk of casurina wood, i try and always peel the bark off as gently as possible since the bark leaves a series of little divots due to how the bark forms and it is MESMERISING ill have to send you some casurina because its gorgeous

What a great looking lamp brother. As always, it's been a really pleasure to watch you bring another piece to life. That rot section gives it so much more character than you could've hoped for in my opinion. Sending love from Boise, Idaho.

A word so great people literally can't believe it exists. Thank you Sir!

Sometimes resin can be nice, but I always hate when they fill burls with resin.
@@Justinthetrees It turned out great!
Do you know the kind of tree it came from? It looks like elm to me.

Would love to get some of that wood. I'll make you a vase!
Give us updates, did you get your vase?
@@katie-allen I never got the wood 🥲
@Justinthetrees please honor the tree by making it into something. :)
