    My dad's channel reached 120k subs and it took him like 5 years. He was making $2500 a month just from ads money. He was one of the first teaching DIY wind and solar

    I have a motto: "You have to get worse to get better."
    What this means is that there is some number we care about - views, subscribers, revenue - that will need to go in the wrong direction for awhile as we make a change. I'm seeing this exact thing with my latest content. It is a new subject not quite in my current audience's niche, but I think it will help more people overall.

    Hi friend. What you say is true. I have always believed youtube controls my numbers. I have a cooking channel. I have worked really hard. And it is very disheartening, when you see a video that is clearly a rougher quality, then the videos that you produce, and yet they have a lot more views than you get. The reason I can attest to this is because I had 3 videos in a roll
    that got thousands a views within the first 24 hours. One got 70 thousand, and the other two were in the 30 thousand. After that, I have never had that many views on any of my videos that quickly. It was as if youtube said her channel will grow too fast at that rate. We have to slow her down. At one point, I was publishing videos every other day. Now I wait, and I publish a video every 4 to 5 days. Either way, I never got any more money. The only reason I have continue is because I am retired and have nothing else to do. I love to cook and it keeps me busy. So I will keep cooking. But yes, it doesn't feel fair.

    • @KevinChee
      @KevinChee  28 дней назад

      Yeah, it is hard but if you are retired then I suggest just do what makes you happy, what keeps you busy and see money as a bonus for your effort. Don't stress yourself out over views, staying happy is the top priority for a retired life. Enjoy life!

    I feel like the biggest enemy is ourselves, how we perceive what is going on. If we are negative then everything we will consider that is against us, but if we are positive we will just push on, try to be better and never lose our focus and vision. Somewhere along the way in the future we will be rewarded.

    • @WalkTalkVent
      @WalkTalkVent 5 месяцев назад

      The simulation we live in seems to work just like you mentioned. If I think negatively I'm doomed. But when I think positive then things do go better. How can we stay more upbeat and positive more consistently? I think if we could get rid of negative thoughts we would all enjoy life much more. Easier said than done of course

    • @wmpx34
      @wmpx34 5 месяцев назад +1

      The trick is not to get rid of negative thoughts, it’s to get rid of all thoughts. The very act of thinking and dwelling on things (positive or negative) rather than focusing on what we are doing or experiencing in the present moment is the ultimate source of unhappiness. This is why many people find meditation so effective.

    • @KevinChee
      @KevinChee  5 месяцев назад

      I'm often a positive person but as my videos gain traction, so does the noise around me and that affects my thought indirectly. Still, you can't get rid of it because you do want your videos to gain traction so the noise is sort of the caveat here. Learning to manage it is the way to go but not easy at all.
      Also, I should take up meditation

      What helped me get more stable inside is book by Eckhart Tolle - The Power of Now. I have read it years ago and now I am re-reading it again. Everyone should read it, it's such a powerful but simple book, depending of your resistance. You just acknowledge the truth behind the words because the truth is inside us. Even though I have read it I still have a long way to go. It's not easy changing for the better, it's always how hard we resist, that's always the problem.

    I experienced this blow-up followed by a long-lasting crush. I was left with 1600 subs and 1000 watch time hours left to monetization and I almost didn't make it in time since I had only 1 year to make it to 4000. Luckily I created this channel because I had an idea of what I wanted to talk about and never thought I could get many views that was more or less a bonus. So I stuck to my plan and eventually, things started to pick up again. I know there are gonna be downs again but I have an exact plan of how my videos should look like in the future regardless of views.

    Hammer what works until it stops working and then look for new ways that work. The most important things in my opinion are good content, interacting with viewers and discoverability.

    • @KevinChee
      @KevinChee  5 месяцев назад

      Discoverability is dependent on algorithm as well. For your content to be discovered, you'll need to create trending topics and videos that RUclips deem worth pushing. Sadly, this also means most channels end up creating the same type of video.

    • @Swanzo
      @Swanzo 5 месяцев назад

      @@KevinChee there is more to it than just topics alone. For example if you do live streams if you use the new vertical live stream format the algorithm pushes you more.

  • @FoXMaSteR001
    @FoXMaSteR001 3 месяца назад +2

    I analyzed that and came to the same conclusions, my opinion is my "best videos" are like a big tree that takes all the light. At the moment the new subs are still from this old video and they expect more videos looking similare, but in a year I've already published many other videos so today I publish other things and they get notified for things they didn't subbed for. But there are in fact 50 videos they should enjoy on the channel but as this new algorithm don't show these videos to them they aren't aware of them. So it's important to make "ads videos" about our own channel regulary today. As anything older than 2 weeks is now dead for this algorithm, except the videos that it pushes up for no visible reason.

    I just started my channel back in August, of this year, then after about 3 weeks, I uploaded my 6th video, and my channel started to blow up, after that, within less than 2 weeks I went from 6 subs to over 2K and I got more than 320K views, I was able to get monetized and everything. Last Sunday evening ( Sept 22nd ) I put up a video and it has gotten over 50k views, then this week, I uploaded 2 more and only had 2.5K with one of them and the latest only got 1.7 K views, , my daily views are dropping by big margins ...I have to admit, that I thought I hit the jackpot, but now I'm getting really discouraged. I know this is all new, and I am certainly going to keep plugging away. It was just a surreal experience, I really hope that I can maintain a healthy number of views. I see others in my niche that have only been around for a couple of months killing it with 100K views per video etc. I hope this is just an "adjustment" and I can eventually climb back up, even if it is not at those crazy levels I experienced, only 2 weeks ago..

    I feel that creators who blame RUclips for being unfair to their channels is a cop out. RUclips is focused on making money, and an individual channel means very little to YT-unless it is violating TOS. My channel was starting to grow quickly 1.5 years ago, but then growth slowed dramatically. The period of stagnancy was devastating to me after the mini growth spurt. But realistically, fluctuations occur, and my channel growth continued at a reduced pace-although I worked harder to get what I got…. With my educational channel, there are multiple traffic fluctuations during the school year. I used this “longer stagnation period” as a challenge to try new things, to improve my photography and editing skills, and to try publishing some showcase (hero) videos. My channel growth is now rebounding somewhat, and I feel much more capable with my skills/knowledge. I’m glad I didn’t quit. Going to lectures, taking up new classes, learning a new language, those are all valuable but I spend way more time on entertainment than those. That's just human nature. RUclips showing me that big growth and what's possible then take it away is what kills me inside. Really hard to rebound but the focus need to be shifted sooner or later. If there's another big push for my channel, I need to learn to accept it as a bonus and not deviate from what I do best.

    Hey Kevin, thanks for checking the messages for me. Much appreciated. I can still see it from there, so I'll copy and paste and see how it goes. the original message is as below:
    Thank you so much for taking the time to give me such a helpful and respectful review. It means a lot. And I really appreciate your positive energy and encouragement.
    With the audio, there is feedback from others with the same issue. I've been messing around trying to fix the volume, but it's been hit or miss. Sometimes I think I've got it sorted because my own speakers and headphones work fine, but it seems it is still an issue (I think I know the issue could be due to me using two different mics when I do a voiceover). I'll definitely look into the app you mentioned (and I tried. For some reason, they don't update anymore). Thanks for the tip. Is there a way to use a smartphone (normal Iphone 13, not pro) before I have more funds to invest in something better that will look better than what I am doing now?
    Your review really cleared things up for me in terms of how my audience might be perceiving what I'm putting out there. It's helping me see where I might be missing the mark. Like how I intended to do the tone (pinyin) with my hand gestures, but I can see now how it might not come across that way unless I make it clear to the audience. It’s good to see the perspective from the audience.
    Thanks also for your objective and detailed analysis. You've got a gift for looking at things from different angles, and that's super valuable for us creators trying to step up our game.
    Thank you for building this community, as we all have the same goal to improve our channel, regardless what our niches are. You’ve also raised an important point - to understand our target audience. If they're confused, it's time for some adjustments. Thanks for the reminder!
    Looking forward to more of your reviews of the others in the future, Kevin, thank you!

    • @KevinChee
      @KevinChee  5 месяцев назад

      Yup, definitely not seeing the comment. So strange, not sure how many other comments RUclips is not showing me.
      Anyways, Levelator not updating isn't an issue. In fact, I hope they don't update just so they don't break it. It works well and it works fine so I'd say use it. It helped me a lot and I never have to worry about audio after that. What software are you using for editing btw? That might make a difference as well. If that doesn't work then it might be the mic. I've tried using Boya lavalier and shotgun, they both does the job well and it relatively cheap.
      For video, iPhone is fine (I was using iPhone X when I started) but iPhone requires a lot of light due to it's small lens. What I did back then was I record in 1080p (or 4k if you have space), use the rear camera (not the selfie cam) and I record beside a window with bright natural light. The issue here is you can only record on a good day, when it gets dark and gloomy, you won't be able to do anything. I bought a softbox to fix this issue so that I can record whenever.
      You can check out my amazon link to see what are the equipments I use.

      @@wecancanto I mean, you can continue to use iPhone but probably record it with more natural light is what I'm saying. It just makes the video a lot sharper. Also, use the rear end camera (the one behind the phone) to record for higher quality. For Levelator, you need to download from the Mac App store. It is compatible on Mac. I think it is called Levelator 3 or something.

      - probably many users use so little of what the devices can do. They probably have a metric on that. How many of their users are using more and more of their features till they add new ones. Eg with iphones how many switch to pro versions. Also you can see this with iPads. They just upgraded them after a long wait… and added bigger screen variants to the entry level models
      - with AI is the same, they launched Siri 13 years back and are calling it Apple Inteligence only now

    Your Latest Thumbnails haven't really grabbed my attention lately.. they almost give me the feeling your just going to be complaining or crying about something, they don't give me the feeling its going to be a constructive video like some of your older thumbnails did. most of your videos are still good but i think the latest thumbnails style haven't really make me want to click on them

      Funny you should say that. These thumbnails actually get a much higher CTR than the ones you mentioned. I don't like being negative either but it just gets more clicks than positive, smiling thumbnails. The message in the video is still the same though. Like this video here, it is getting more views faster than my previous one with higher CTR and the previous one doesn't give off the vibe you mention yet it isn't clicked on as much.
      I guess now that A/B testing is out, I can give it a more thorough test :)
