You need to brand your channel Tom, consider your channel name and your logo, your cover photo etc. Do they 'cry out' what you do / who you are / your message / your purpose? Three words of advice from someone who knows: Branding, Branding & Branding. You've already nailed the consistency and clearly have videos editing skills and are very presentable so branding is all your missing to take you to the next stage. Please consider it and good luck to you!
During the editing process, if you take a look at how Iman Gadzhi video flows btw this is not me telling you to create Iman Gadzhi style edit but the pacing and Tempo, focus on sound design and add motion graphics or B-roll footages cause tbh to create thinks for the audience you have to go psychological, presently with the amount of brainrot in people, whether you make powerful contents or not, if the video is not engaging it would still be boring. Try to add motion graphics or B-roll and work on sound design, also focus on Branding and bro you good to go.
That's so smart.... I need help with my branding!!!! I am an older singer, singing classic tunes and songs in different languages, but feel that the youtube algorithm isn't hitting my specific audience, which would be baby boomers, and older people. It just thinks I am a singer and with huge competition with younger singers, I am not hitting the mark. Help!
Appreciate the advice on more structure, more goal oriented, be more focused, your experience and takeaway is excellent for me as a new YT getting views and subscribers but learning editing, description, hashtags, organizing content, strategy. 🎉looking forward to learning more from your videos.
I'm a very small channel and what I've learnt so far is good content writing. With good thumbnails even if the quality is bad if it's good writing it can get thousands of views and that's all the creator needs to do.
Just subscribed! I just started my own channel too and have two subscribers so far. Your determination is inspiring and definitely worth another subscriber. Keep going-you’ve got this!
I've given up on this damn platform. Now I just make stuff for me to enjoy, since either no one else likes what I make or they can't find it anyway. RUclips is basically my coloring book, and I've resigned myself to continue sitting in the corner eating crayons. If I can spend my life thriving in loneliness, I can do it online too lol
My goodness! Your consistency is practically perfect. You have adhered to every single requirement needed for a successful channel too. This just makes me wonder, is RUclips nowadays 50% luck ?
We all start somewhere and never know which video blows us up. My wife and I are starting out on this journey too. You've got a new subscriber here and, with focus and determination, we'll meet at the top. See you there!
Congratulations Tom on your 200-video milestone. And thanks for your video today, you did well. I will do a similar video once i've posted 200 videos LoL. I only aim to help one person out of 8 billion, and if one of my videos achieved, i won't ask for more.
You just have to be ready to get popular as fast as possible. Trends are always the same, just give people some fun and knowledge in your content, and you are good to go. Of course, it can be tough to get to that point when you are noticed enough (that's why I am using a little bit of Famester for every video I post).
Isn't famester just fake bot accounts? Does it get you watch time? Also, wouldn't you legally be in trouble if you got caught using it?? It'd feel wrong to do, but I guess it can be difficult to ever be discovered. Or you really want to escape having a miserable job and are desperate. I do gaming videos, but I'm slow at editing and only upload twice a month. I expect to be having to get a job soon. So I really won't have much time to work on videos. I don't know what trends always being the same means. For gaming, I think it'd just be the new popular games. So I guess its the same since its always the newest game.
"Thank you, Tom, for uploading this video. I’m certain it has encouraged many people to take the first step toward creating their own RUclips channel. As someone with a small and growing channel who’s still new to content creation, this video was a real eye-opener for me. I came across it while scrolling on RUclips, and it was especially inspiring since I’ve been struggling with consistency since starting my channel in September due to personal challenges. Watching it after uploading my 12th video about the struggles of people-pleasing really hit home, as I know firsthand how hard it is to stop worrying about what others think-both online and offline. Thanks for listening to my thoughts!"
❤ I’m literally smiling right now; watching you and listening as you just go on, without knowing this was the video that went viral. I don’t know you but I am sincerely very happy for you. Keep it up man!❤
Hitting 200 videos is definitely a milestone worth celebrating, but what stands out here is how reflective and honest you are about the journey. The idea that it's not about the sheer number of videos but about having clear goals and direction is such a crucial takeaway. It’s inspiring how you acknowledge the importance of starting small-focusing on five or ten videos to build momentum and consistency before aiming higher. Your point about authenticity being a priority over chasing views really resonates. So many creators fall into the trap of trying to mimic others or focus on metrics at the expense of enjoying the process. Staying true to your style while experimenting with what works is great advice, especially for people just starting out. It’s refreshing to see someone put passion and authenticity ahead of clickbait strategies. The lesson about preparation is another gem. Balancing spontaneity with thoughtful planning is a skill many overlook when they’re new to RUclips. And your comment on analytics-that they’re useful but not essential in the early stages-really hits home. Beginners often get caught up in numbers instead of focusing on creating and learning, so it’s great that you shared that perspective. Lastly, the shift from grinding out content for consistency to focusing on quality and creativity is something many creators eventually realize. You’ve clearly gained a lot of wisdom through experience, and this video is packed with advice that could save new creators a lot of trial and error. Great stuff.
I truly appreciate your kind words! It means a lot to hear that my experiences resonate with you. Here’s to all of us navigating this journey together and celebrating our milestones, big or small!
Me and my girlfriend are fighting to hit first 100 subs for months with over 60 videos but just lately we started with posting more and to check more analytics and we are getting more people now, even one of our last videos hit 750 hours in few days and that is a lot of us.. We hope that we will get more people with us in upcoming months, and also we are supporting everyone who leaves a comment 🙂
I just wanted to be a hobby content creator and made nearly 45 videos in 15 months - I totally agree with you - it is how you enjoy the journey. People have too many options and even our subscribers are not making any time to watch our videos as they are busy with lot of options - unless we enjoy what we are doing - it is difficult to sustain or keep ourselves positive. Mine were mostly education and science related - so to begin with the people who need informaiton on this wont spend time on RUclips, lol.
to break your limiting belief, some people are going on RUclips to learn (educate themself), so they would spent time on RUclips. your task is to make it easy and fun to watch :)
@@thetomstoll sure will try but initially - even to face camera itself takes a toll on you - now I can say - I am at the level of making the content into points based presentation - will try to deliver it in an engaging way.
It gets tough I know. I'm also struggling....but we keep moving forward bro. Don't give up. And don't think your efforts don't count. Every video counts!
Almost same experience.. travel videos , lots of them … someone even trolled me , in the comments of a video that I made with lot of effort and conviction, that I have 140 videos and only 1K sub .. that my Shantel should RIP … very frustrating… but what I see is that sharing your own experience in RUclips gets picked up
Thanks for sharing! I personaly make walking videos and my primary goal is to have a fun walk that I enjoy. RUclips is just a platform where I share my walks, the channel growth is not a goal for me, I do not feel preassure of not getting subscribers fast and and as a result, I retain peace of mind. If someone likes what I'm filming, that's ok, if I get a new follower that's ok, if don't that's ok too. Maybe that's why the growth of the my channel is very slow😀Have a nice year all!
Well done 👍 Your dedication and passion are so inspiring. Keep pushing your limits and sharing your unique perspective. Can’t wait to see where this journey takes you-keep going strong!
As a relatively new RUclipsr (just a little over a month), I try not to obsess over stats and numbers, but man it's hard. Especially since I'm in a niche that's flooded -- retrogaming. Still, it's something I'm passionate about, so... I guess the thing that helped me is that I started making videos on March (and posting on the Book of Face) so, I have some built up experience in video editing, etc. I just subscribed...I like your message!
I totally get it! Stats can feel like that final boss in a retro game-difficult to conquer but so satisfying when you finally beat it! Just keep leveling up your content!
@ I am learning English. I am not good at using English to explain the title and description. It's hard for me to use long words. I'm learning about seo now.
Great vid Tom totally relate to what are you saying, right now I am at the stage of planning a video and create videos more concisely, hopefully it would pan out. Subbed !
I'm admiring you for how easily you seem to speak in English. That's the hardest part for me as a non native speaker. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Any tips on this subject would be welcome. - A
