  • System of a Down is beast and this groove is classic! A student recently brought this song in and it led me down a SOAD rabbit hole of rediscovery and respect for the genius of this band.
    Playing Examples:
    Full Tempo play through 0:05
    Measure 1 1:41
    First Fill 3:36
    Measure 3 & 4 5:35
    Second Fill 7:25
    Third Fill 8:51
    Fourth Fill 10:16
    Final Measure 11:42
Enjoy the lesson and let me know if its helpful! 🙏

This was one of the hardest songs I’ve learned so far. It wasn’t because the song is insane. It’s because literally everyone plays it differently. It was so confusing I’d learn a piece but need more info at the next step and basically have to relearn a section. Finally just broke it up and made it mine the same as everyone else.

I tried to base it off of a few different live videos to see what he was playing. If this isn't exact I think its pretty close.

@@MattPriceDrummingyeah the fills are kinda one of those things to be expected. I think you are definitely close. The groove you play at the 5:40 mark. I dunno why but that little section just did not want to click in my brain.

Found this video so helpful compared to others . I think it's your repitition of doing the fills over and over , I find it easier to follow

Im a native spanish speaker. Im sorry if I fail in some words, haha.
This is the only lesson that actually helped me understand the song, not just play it. Im confident in my "imitating skills", but im been having troubles playing in 6, so your lesson helped a lot. Thanks!

Great teaching style, best I've seen! One question; why is it that you don't use the floor tom? i have seen scores and other lessons that use them in some of the fills.
