The trend for retailers to move toward automated checkouts may be losing steam as big chains hear customer complaints and theft rises. David Zura explain.
Customers are also dissatisfied. Why do I have to work? If I make a mistake, I will be accused of being a thief and arrested. Even if you do it yourself, there is no discount on the product.
I worked in customer service (cashier). It was something I was "paid" to do. I am NOT about to work for free at a for-profit store so they can save costs on workers... workers that they won't even pay a living wage to (while most are making record profits). Perhaps theft wouldn't be such an issue if most of these (food) stores would stop raising their prices so people could actually afford to buy what they need (grocery store shelves are full, yet people are starving)! Self-checkouts are just another way they thought they could add a bit more to their bottom line. I'm so happy they're going!
Last week I was at the grocery store and my total came up to $250 so I decided to get a second opinion and went into the self check out. It was only $38.
I prefer humans. We are in the most connected time in history while simultaneously becoming more & more isolated from each other. Sit around a camp fire this summer & count how many people are on their phones.
I remember working at walmart and this smug guy told me "soon you will listen to your customers and rethink self checkout". I said "no, the money speaks and they'll listen. Not you"
I'd prefer to do the self checkout and to have a guy watching me than to interact with a cashier, so let the self checkout machines and hire a guard for every one of them.
The tech isn't there, yet, that's why Amazon scraped their 'fully automated' store. They were using people from, India I believe to go over footage and even then, there were a lot of mistakes.
The machines look rather expensive to invest in then you have to keep filling them with bills and change..and have someone watching over for errors/theft..its not that economical especially because cashiers can do other things when its not busy. Machine cannot.
When people don't want to be honest,we will all pay more. Personally don't care about self check out . I find it quicker and don't need the small talk or to see a cashier that hates their job.
@@ryanbishop9646 doesn’t mean you get to shoplift, knowingly omitting to scan an item or intentionally mis-scanning it as something else is shoplifting and shoplifting is illegal.
@@TentaclePentacle That’s not how it works. If you don’t want to checkout yourself then go through a normal checkout. And your short 300 seconds at the checkout certainly isn’t worth much. And most people need constant help anyways.
Prefer check outs as a deaf person myself... i dont want to have to deal with cashiers if they going to ask something and i may not understand what they are saying
You go into any grocery store in my area, all of them have gates to go in and out of the store. The Walmart in my area is messy, understocked and lower it's retail floor space. Everyone keeps going on about "record profits". Most grocery stores operate with in 3% of their revenue, which is not a lot. Inflation is the reason the total number seems so high. I like’em but i hate’em. I usually will use the machines if i only have a couple items or there is no lineups at them. But if i got a lot of stuff and i can find an open lane at a cashier i will go there
All of these immigrants moving here need jobs in retail so we can't understand them right? Maybe if they paid casheers a propper wage that was equal to the work they do we'd have more Canadians wanting to work.
So many customers do not pass the "shopping cart litmus test," which is a good indicator of the average person's propensity for self-regulated morality when they believe no one is watching.
Self check outs were great. No cashier with attitude. No extra taken for grocery item by 'mistake'. No long lines to stand in with aholes. Guess it was the stealing that got them. Very sad.
I never once used self checkouts, people who use them don’t care if a person loses their job to the self checkouts, as long as a robot don’t take their job away from them.good riddance adios.
This has nothing to do with customer complaints - its all about theft and nothing else.

Not really self-checkouts when people frequently push the help button
And 80% of the time it’s human error. Working retail really made me realize how the average person is just not very intelligent

No!!! I don't want to interact with anyone at the grocery store!

Just goto self check out and immediately press help. Now u got urself a personal cashier 🎉

I’ve heard it said, one for you and one for me. Retailers made it far too easy to steal. Looks good on them.

Me, and most others with Autism and social anxiety like the self checkouts. Just do both how hard is that?
Bad idea , I do the work I demand a discount.
Cause wayyy too much shrink goes through self checkouts. I used to work retail, a lot of dishonest customers.
A lot of dishonest companies

It's not shop lifting, it's customers charging the store for a fair wage for doing the work of a cashier.

Some self checkouts are allergic to paper cash money transactions. CASH IS KING! Let’s not forget this…
Self-check should pay for automated therapy for lonely and depressed customers and then automated funeral and AI mourners when that doesn't work.
