Thai Constellation | An Extremely Rootbound Repotting

  • It's time to repot my Monster Thai Constellation. I can't believe how much it's grown over the past 2 years. It's potted in Lechuza-Pon, a mineral substrate. I'm using a self watering planter. The one it was previously potted in is a Lechuza Delta 20. The current planter is a Lechuza Quadro LS.

    Tip; this is a lot easier to do underwater! If you have a large tub, drown the entire pot and then start wiggling it loose (I had a monstera in a big glass vase that felt like it was seconds away from exploding 😂 I struggled for a long time until I tried drowning the entire thing and it let go almost immediately, it's now my go to for very rootbound pots I can't get out!)

    Love your attitude, Plants by Melissa gets uncomfortably upset at stuff, (had to stop watching) I appreciate trying to see the positive and carry on, it’s all you can do, you can’t mope, what’s done is done. My favourite sayings are “think about the solution, not the problem” and “adversity is the stone on which sharpen my blade” and “bloom where your planted” ❤

    Two cons of self watering pots are, the roots either get bound to the bottom of the pot, or the roots grow through the pot, and you have to destroy the roots to get the plants out.

    When the other side broke I did exactly what you did, gasped and covered my mouth. Taking time to gather yourself was a good call. I probably would have had a good cry…

    • @crazedxina
      @crazedxina 6 месяцев назад +2

      Transferring alocasias to semi hydro is rough on their roots because their roots are very delicate compared to other aroids with chunkier roots. I used to have a hard time too but what changed it for me was when I put them in pon I water once or twice a day until I see root growth. You don't have to worry about "over watering" because Pon does not suffocate the roots like soil. Once I see root growth I use the water reservoir per usual. I hope if you try again that this tip helps you like it did for me.
