Thank you so much! I really enjoy doing videos. I’m trying to commit myself to putting out one long video a week. I have so many things I want to show ya’ll! ☺️
Could you do a video on switching from soil to pon but more in depth like where to have the water level, does the water need to be touching the roots? And how to fertilize with pon. Just a total in depth all about pon care video. I really want to switch my alocasias to pon but I just haven’t found all the info I need no matter how many videos I watch.
I’m seeing this 10 months after it was posted but if you still have question check out plants by Melissa. I switched all my alocasia to pon after watching her pon content. I did it with confidence too and they’re all doing fantastic
I so deeply appreciate you for warning me to not start with my most expensive plants because that is precisely what i was finna do :D YOUR ALOCASIAS ARE MY INSPIRATION.
Also it is super easy to DIY a self watering pot! For some reason 16 oz clear Deli cups fit great into most 6in and 4-inch pots! But any clear recycled container that fits inside a decorative waterproof container seems to work very nicely for me😊
I just bought 2 bags of Lechuza pon, starting out with my Alocasias, hope it all goes well, love your channel, it's relaxing to watch you young lady!!😊
i love that you did this segment. i was debating whether to use pon on my aloccasia's. ordered a bag, but was sitting on it for a week. today would you believe i got the courage up to use it. your clear cut info help to assure me that i did it right. thanks so much. i want my aloccasia to look like yours.😊 wish me luck. 🤞
I use pon since many years and have all my plants in it without any problems (well ok, epiphytic orchids don‘t work). I love the Lechuza pots but as you said they are expensive and have limited designs. That‘s why I love to use the Elho self watering insert in combination with pon.
OMG! I was literally looking for videos about PON a few days ago. I open RUclips today and this video is the first one in my subscriptions! Thanks! You answered a lot of questions for me! Also, I can’t wait to get this containers. I’ve been looking for a clear pot self-watering container for eons. Thanks for all the videos & I completely agree…it’s crazy how you don’t have a million followers with all the great info you give.
Thank you so much for the kind words! Also, I'm really happy to have found self watering planters with clear inner pots. a couple of years ago they didnt exist and I was hoping someone would make them. So glad they did!
This is So interesting; I’ve never heard of Pon. I like the minerals you described, I’m sure aroids would do well in it. And the self watering aspect is probably the best method for most us. I’ve struggled with interior plants/: Thanks for describing the various self watering pots. I bought my first one with my Xanthosoma ( it has the wick ) and so far it’s doing really well.
I know you said you won’t even sugarcoat it… the fact that Pon is expensive. I have a solution. The best DIY material for homemade Pon is the clay product Oil-Dri. It’s made, like the name implies, to soak up oil spills on garage floors or in auto shops. But at the end of the day, it’s simply LECA. It’s a lightweight, expanded clay aggregate product, but in pretty gray flakes! Functions exactly the same way as LECA but it’s just not in red clay ball form. 😂 And the best part is there are multiple sources, size options & prices online for it. Or you can maybe find it at local auto or hardware stores if you’re lucky. My hardware store sells 50 lb. bags for $29.99, which is pretty amazing in my opinion, compared to some of the Lechuza deals. If you go online though, there are even better deals, like…three 40 lb. bags for $75. It’s the best stuff, for semi-hydro, for adding drainage to soil, or even just layering on top of soil, as a topdressing, with potted plants. The gray color looks nice against all plants. I’ve even used it in my planted aquariums and it doesn’t break down! For my DIY Pon, I use the Oil-Dri flakes, perlite or pumice (but it’s not even needed, tbh), Osmocote for fertilizer (depending on plant), and a blend of zeolite and charcoal, which you can buy as a pre-made mix from PetSmart or Petco, in the aquarium section. It’s made by Fluval, the same brand that makes the Stratum substrate… it’s like $12 for at least a pound.
Thank you for sharing beautiful and amazing plants lovely collection you have amazing and wonderful houseplant collection beautiful as always love watching your video
I just found you and I am thrilled that I did! You’re phenomenal!!!! I’ve been binge watching your videos for 3 days now! 😅 Do you do in person plant design consultations?
Yay! I tried your suggestion on not washing the roots. The plants didn't pause in growing! I love it! Thank you so much for sharing your father duster. It has changed so much for me. 😊
do you test the pH of the water once you water it through the pon. What sits in the reservoir after I'm having an issue where my water is perfectly pH with all of my fertilizer and stuff in it and when I water it through the pon the water that goes in the reservoir when I test its pH it's like a four and I can't figure out why it keeps doing that do you have any ideas.
I like the guitar at 0:29 and was trying to see if I could tell the make and model of guitar ( as if I'd really be able to,lol ) I'm kind of intimidated by Lechuza-Pon,but probably because I never heard of it till recently.
I have been using Lechuza pon for over 4 years. I started using pon and Lechuza planters for my Calathea and vey quickly transferred most of the plants I had at that time. Fast forward to present day, I still use pon and self watering plants. Lechuza planters are hands down my favorite but they are pricey especially the very large ones! I have also used planters from Dexeder, Aquaphoric and Gardenix with success. I have used a few other planters that I would not recommend.
Yeah, people sometimes wonder how I could recommend such an expensive planter, but they truly are the best. I've heard lots of great things about Elho self watering planters, but they aren't available here in the US.
Always love to watch your videos, you make it looks so easy. Started my semi hydro 3 years ago and I love it. Loving pin, but I have so much less I'm mixing the two substrates together. Finding it difficult to find the zeolite. Any recommendations?
Hi I’m new around here, Love ur contents, Can you please advise on the mold that forms up top on the Lechuza Pon, what should I do? My Hoyas look ok but I’m worried. Thank you so much. Can you make content on this subject, might help others as well. I’ve had my Hoyas in pon about 3 months some are actually growing. 🙂❤️
After transferring Hoya to pon what is you water reservoir set up? I have seen some people do very low and just watering from the top until roots establish themselves in pon and some people do a third of the way up. I just transferred a bunch of Hoyas and it’s a learning curve. Love your channel and your energy. Looking forward to more videos.
Actually, I’ve done both. I tend to leave the resovoir dry and water from the top until the roots have established themselves. When I’m using the kind of self watering planters with a wick I fill the water resovoir normally.
Hi Ms. Diva 💕! Thank you for your informative clips. You’ve inspired me to move many of my plants from soil to pon, and I love it! I’ve had casualties and fatalities along the way… I’d love to know it you ever water from the top or do you always add water to the reservoir? Thank you.
Thank you for the kind words. It depends on the type of self watering planter I use. Some I have no choice but to water from the top to get water to the reservoir. On certain finicky plants that I’ve newly transferred I’ll water from the top until it grows enough roots to handle a reservoir full of water.
I’ve noticed you bring your wicking rope somewhat up and don’t leave it at the bottom of the inner pot before you put your first layer of pon in. Why is that?
I wonder if The Leca Queen does a ph balance. I always use Leca and my ph balance is ok so far. Might try this. I would think that it’s not safe for your lung’s like perlite. I saw quite a bit of dust when you poured the container. Maybe wetting it before use would help 🤔
This video is so helpful! I just got my bag of lechuza pon on and I am ready to transition my hoyas there. I wanted to know how your Variegated Hoya Compacta is doing in the pon, I have bought 2 of them in the past and they die on me no matter what I do. I have a green one that has grown so much for me but the variegated one is never happy in all the conditions I put it in. So I'm wondering if maybe I buy it again and try it in pon!
Thank you. Fungus gnats typically aren’t a problem with Pon, but I have had them before. Some were able to hatch in my Alocasia Zebrina. I think it’s because I had recently repotted it and there were some rotted roots close to the surface of the Pon.
I use Foliage Pro. I micro dose at every watering. I take a medicine dropper’s worth of Foliage Pro liquid fertilizer, put in a gallon jug and water my plants with it
Im a huge under waterer so ive been thinking about pon for a few of my plants that like more water or my very small plants that need watered more ofter so these information is great for me. The only thing im wondering is about fertilising, do you do it every water, do you need a special fertiliser?
I micro dose fertilizer at every watering. I use a medicine dropper worth of Foliage Pro fertilizer in a gallon jug and water all of my plants with it.
Started using pon couple of months ago and had to up pot my hoya new guinea ghost which was in pon. When I moved the plant up a size- all the roots started dying off and the baby leaves too. Could you recommend what are the steps you follow to ensure the roots and transitioning into the new pot are completely fine🙏🏽 Downsized this hoya into the smallest pot in pon but I am terrified of what will happen when I have to up-size the pot once again.
I have Hoyas that are still in their nursery pots from 2 1/2 years ago! I rarely repot Hoyas because they tolerate being rootbound really well. I wouldn’t repot into a larger Pon planter until the roots have completely taken over the pot.
No, I don’t wash my Pon. You’re not supposed to let the sediment go down your drains and it’s a hassle to wash it outside. I’ve found that when it’s unwashed, the sediment collects at the bottom of the self watering pot reservoir and I can easily remove it.
Hi Dana, love your videos! I just found you two weeks ago and ordered pon from Etsy after playing myself and letting my pon filled cart on the lechuza website sit. Anyway learned my lesson fast about grabbing them cause even if you get a decent price for the product, these vendors play games with 50 dollar shipping! Anyway I had a question about alocacias and pon, if you are growing corms or reporting plants, do you keep the zeolite in it. I didn’t buy the unfertilized version but I did get the recommended liquid fertilizer in your store. Any guidance is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Oh my goodness, so sad you had to learn the hard way about letting your Lechuza cart stay idle for too long! I remember during one Pon shortage I got an email that it was back in stock. I went to the site, put it my cart and lost it because I thought I had time to browse the site and look at other stuff. Lesson learned! 😅 About the corms. I usually grow mine in moss and transfer it to Pon after it’s developed enough roots.
I haven't ventured into them. They're intimidating to me for some reason! I grew up across the street from a commercial orchid grower and seeing all the beautiful specimens she had in her greenhouse was always a treat!
Hi! I ordered the self watering pots with meters (but no wicks) in your Amazon list. I am experimenting with pon for the first time & even though i have my plants in a window with a fan blowing on them, im getting mold on my pon. Is this normal?
You shouldn’t be getting mold on your Pon at all. Can you tell me more about your setup so I can try to help. One of the selling points of Pon is that it’s mold resistant
@@leafydiva yes! I have my plants set up next to a north facing window with a fan blowing directly onto them. No extra plant lights or anything. I cant think of any other details that would contribute to the mold!
I just use plastic plant stakes right now. Soon, I think I’m going to venture into making Pon or Moss Poles. One of my friends made one for his self watering planter and he says that he doesn’t have to water the moss the pole at all. I think I might try it out!
The best self watering pots I have found are called ANUBIAS. Lechuzan pots are too expensive. I love PON but it makes it difficult to move your plants back to coco. I killed my first Thai Constellation that way. You can't use PON for every plant.
I’m on Amazon almost everyday and I’ve never seen those planters. I just added them to my wishlist! They seem to be the same kind as the ones I showed in the video, just a different style which I like. Thanks for sharing. I’ve had both of my Thai’s in Pon for over a year. They are thriving but I babied the heck out of them the first few months to make sure the transition went smoothly. 😅
@@leafydiva I have tons of self watering pots and to be honest, I don't like them much, there is another set that I like ( 4 Inch Self Watering Planter 8 Set - Modern Flower Pot with Water Level Indicator - 4.5 Inch Tall - for All House Plants,Flowers,Herbs.) These pots are short but good for smaller plants. The ones you put on your list are neat, slim, deep where you can put soil to the bottom, add your plants and additional soil. Both of these pots don't cram your roots, but grow through the holes which is why I don't like these types of pots much. Sorry forgot to mentions those animated pots with eyes or raindrops are a no go! Killed a few of my plants. Those pots are too deep and don't allow the plant to dry out.
I believe it’s a game changer! At the time, I was transitioning, multiple delicate root plants like begonias to Lechuza-Pon. The roots were so delicate that the minute they got wet, they became difficult to work with, broke easily and stuck together. It would set the plant back so much. One day I got two begonias in, and decided not to wash their roots and just dust them instead. To my surprise, both of them took to Pon without skipping a beat. I was sold at that point! 😅
Pon was impossible to find so I wanted to transfer immediately. Leca was too expensive (oh set 🍞🙋🏾🌏🥣) DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND SMALL LAVA ROCK HOME DEPOT 50LBS $5.49 . My plants are 💦💦💦💦💦💦FIRE. from MORGAN CITY LOUISIANA live in LOS ANGELES next to a TACO 💪🏾🦾 BELL🌮🌯🥙..😂😂🤬.. the only thing U got to rinse the lava thoroughly .really dusty but WORTH every penny.
Do you use pon with your moss poles or other support stakes?
I just use plastic plant stakes right now. Soon, I think I’m going to venture into making Pon or Moss Poles. One of my friends made one for his self watering planter and he says that he doesn’t have to water the moss the pole at all. I think I might try it out!
@leafydiva a pon pole sounds awesome! I've been wanting to transition to pon but was wondering what I would do with my climbers. Love your channel!!
Do I have to use self watering pot for this mix?
Nope! You don’t have to use a self watering planter for Pon. I know many people who don’t and their plants are thriving. ☺️
Hey Dana, I'm new here. I love ur channel. I LUV UR HAIR. Ok I'm good.....
What kind of plant did she repot?
Hoya Callistophylla
It took me 20 seconds to subscribe.
Hmmm...no washing roots. Roger that! V-
I believe it’s a game changer! 😅
Hahaha!! and your the reason there is a Pon shortage🤣✌🏼
and ironically I now have enough Pon to last me forever. Lol I might have to start selling it by the gram until the shortage ends! 🤣
@@leafydiva 🤣🤣
