I think it should be called Out of Spec Conversions which better describes what is really what it is. The father of Concersions on RUclips is Jehu Garcia whose first concersion was VW bus and his West Coast friend has a company making kits. In my early life I made a roadster from a '33 Chevy 5 window coupe and a '35 Ford Sedan. Total cost was $300 which included a soft top & paint job.
Can’t wait to see this progress. I’m not a patina fan, so I love that they’re turning it into a full-on show truck. If I had deep enough pockets I’d love to do something similar, but I keep it a daily driver.
Back in 1976, people were stuffing high performance Chevy engines into the Vega. I stuffed one into a 1969 Datsun pickup. It was unique at the time, and fun. Since then there have many similar projects.
This is exactly what I'm hoping the channel will show more of in the future. I just hope the disassembly process gets fully recorded and documented in future builds. I look forward to seeing the assembly process.
Nice project. The battery choice is more difficult. with the Y types. Since it's structural. The 3 and S are packs on itself. CAN-bus is great and a pain on the same time when you want to tinker with it.
I'm only an outsider looking in and having been to many a traditional car show, I'm excited to see how the automobile modification/retrofit industry is embracing EVs as openly as they are. I truly think that utilizing EV technology in cars and making show cars out of them will be yet another tool in the creative builder arsenal; another color to their palette. Eliminating all the components that are required in an ICE vehicle frees up a lot of space for creators to get creative and build truly spectacular vehicles in the aftermarket.
Brett and her are changing the game with this build and I got to drive the Model Y before they took the battery pack out. I feel lucky. Haha can’t wait to see this thing done.
I might have used a Model S or X only for the larger battery and they both have a binnacle display. I love my S but would be able to completely live without a center display if it had a binnacle. Or better yet a center display that pops out.
It will cost more than a new vehicle. It won't make financial sense. That said, it will be a one of a kind, and it will be daily drivable, so it will be loveable. And I will be glad that that brand new EV powertrain will be able to drive again.
Reminds me of the Ford E-100 eluminator build with an entire mach e gt powertrain swapped onto a custom roadster shop tube frame chassis then stuck under a 70s F-100. 👍🏻😎
Big fan of the 1961-66 trucks and also seeing them built in every imaginable way. I have actually thought about doing this same thing but too many other projects need done first. I did something very similar 12yrs ago but with a New F150. I kept ALL electronics as delivered in the F150. Things like trailer sway control, anti roll, anti skid, anti theft, satellite radio, full HVAC, full dash, electronic steering of course and full suspension & brakes. One thing on this project that will be interesting is the computer will see things much different when driven vs sitting stationary. The tesla swaps have been many so not really a first but in a 62-3 unibody most likely yes. Does truck owner have a build page?
I love this project. If I had the opportunity I would love to do a similar project. I would probably keep the truck look more original, keep the patina.
I love Hot Rods and this is a great combo. The idea of combining the two doesn't make me wince at all, some cars should always be V8 but this truck will be so cool with Tesla power.
Lots of videos online do old truck conversions using Tesla powertrain but controllers from third party. The explanation is most of the time the "brain" - the computer of Tesla drives itself insane by reactinng to sensors in an alien shell vs Tesla. If this project succeeds then lots of folks are going to ask for help how to tame Tesla's controller.
Hi. They introduced the Mach-e motor as a crate motor ( aka the Eluminator) 3 years ago but without a dedicated inverter, controller, battery pack or component letting you easily install it in the manner Kelli is doing it. They have however definitely shown the way the aftermarket is going 👍
YES. The cheapest & easiest way to repower to electric is to find a wrecked EV with intact rolling platform, discard the crumpled body (you can sell a lot of those parts you wont need) and bolt on the body of your choice. DONE. !
Why do lunatics grind the paint off of a perfectly good old work truck? Convert it, fine. Why mutilate it first? Strange and pointless. Just convert it.
On the contrary. Many of these old trucks are heading to the scrap heap . This conversion will enable the truck to live for another 60 years. lt's the same as doing a restomod with late model ice components. l'm doing the same type of conversion to a 59 F100 with Model 3 running gear . l'm keeping the original patina . From the outside you won't know the difference. My conversion will also become my house battery when parked in the garage. Win win.
I love that there are so many people that are excited and supportive to my project. Can't wait to see this one come to life.
Great project! 👏👏👏
I can’t wait to see the final product. This is going to be exciting.
I’m looking forward to the journey. Subscribed!

It's about time someone did a uni-body Ford truck. Excellent!
This is the kind of stuff that I’d love to do.

Salvage to Savage has about 30 episodes of a 1985 Chevy C10 they did a Tesla swap on. First ep is ruclips.net/video/Su2H3-sM9Uw/видео.html
@@Billy.80 Thanks for the link, but that type of swap has been done many times before. It's not a full swap. Like they're trying to do here.
Love this project and can't wait to see the finished Ford Y-100 ;)
Y-100 moniker is cool
Nice project.

Love giving life to a build from salvaged/ruined vehicles that would otherwise just be thrown away

This is epic!! I would love a Chevy El Camino EV 😂
Oh that would be epic.
There is a 6-page story about a converted to EV El Camino in the latest issue of EV Builder’s Guide 👌⚡️
Check out electriccamino.blogspot.com
😁
El Camino? LoL
Amazing project!
VERY cool build!!
Truck of my dreams.

Someone took a Tesla model S and dropped a modified Volvo on top of it. Looks like a modified Volvo touring, but still has everything from the Tesla.
I love this project. If I had the opportunity I would love to do a similar project. I would probably keep the truck look more original, keep the patina.
Hey guys, Thanks for watching BUT, I'm informed you guys haven't subscribed.... YET! 'DO IT!" ;-)

Who's ready for part 2?
Doing it the right way! 👏
Indeed! Shawn is a very reputable builder in LV. (y)

Instant subscribe. Would love to follow this build. Do they have a youtube channel?
no channel per se, we'll cover it all here, but do check Old Man customs socials 👍
The guts of a Tesla Model Why.
Isn't Ford offering its own battery and motors, converters, charger and cotrollers pre-destined to be used with old truck conversions?

Ford unibody !! My father in law had one just like that years ago. He traded it to someone 🤨

I don’t know if I should cry or vomit. Good luck with the build!
You said the truck had a motor no it had A engine
Sure thing is, it wil have motors now ;-)
sure she is... no men will be involved. she will
whatever you say JoBlo

RIP for a rare truck being cannibalized. Ridiculas waste.

Just ruins the value of a classic vehicle going electric. Should be illegal.
Lol. " Value ". What's an old F truck with no engine worth ?
@@billhill4479 More than it is with an electric motor in it. lol
@@davewhite113Soooo......no actual answer then eh ? Thought so . Lol.
