You don’t even mention that lack of inexpensive energy that is no longer available due to the Us blowing up Nordstream. And the greens and German government want to deindustrialize Germany.
Stop hating on the Chinese, mate, and start blaming your own business executives. Chinese have the right to manufacture and sell their products wherever they wish just like any others. Your manufacturing is low because your wages are high, and productivity is low. Hang out more time in a pub drinking beer, trying to woo chicks with fake tities.
Maybe you should also mention that VW paid out 4.5 billion euros to shareholders in the spring. Now VW is claiming that 4-5 billion euros are missing. VW is trying to privatize the profits and nationalize the losses. No wonder the population is not playing along...

Yes, this will give VW a reprieve while they figure out how to move forward. I predict this strike will last months, possibly even with a lockout by VW. When (if) VW starts up again, many strikers will have found new jobs, so VW will save money with a smaller work force. I think their best option is robots, they need to get in as many as possible as soon as possible to assist their reduced work force. And/or some models will never be re-started.
We need simple reliable cars, not a suspension in BMW or AUDI that takes 5 times more time and 10 times more resources to repair..... they have overcomplicated everything.... A car with a solid ( NO TURBO ) small 4 cylinder engine made to last 500K km , no digital trash in the car, just knobs, buttons, and levers.... simple 4-5 line digital screen hifi with decent speakers with USB connection and that is all we need..... NO LED headlights.... because if a led dies you need to swap the WHOLE HEADLIGHT..... for a 2 euro bulb change we let car makers introduce a 1500 euro part change....
Dude, EV sales are not going up worldwide. The rise is driven by growth in China, but in most markets demand for EVs is flat or falling. Only fleets and freebies keep demand for EVs in some parts. Most consumers are not switching to EVs.
Don’t forget that the Chinese heavily subsidise their EV market which creates false lower cost so they can take over the market and kill off all these other companies. Look how many EVs china makes and look at how many they dump
Just stop net zero. I'm in the UK and I think we are responsible for 2% of global carbon emissions. And I doubt most the individual EU members are much different. We are financially ruining ourselves for a minuscule effect on the environment.
ICE sales are on the decline. 10 people who have bought brand new cars all have been EVs over the last 2 years. Only 1 person has bought a brand new ICE
Couldn't agree more. Going green and chasing the delusion of net zero made energy costs skyrocket, now they can't produce competitively. Dumb and idiotic policies put them square in the face of a crumbling economy.
Yep and the worst part is that thru EU they are pusing this agenda to all other European countries. Russian gas was green when they were using it not it's not any more. The damn saviors of Europe.
Look at the history of British Leyland in the UK. This is what VW is doing, British Leyland ignored the Japanese auto industry and the workers strikes etc and look what happened, VW is doing exactly the same but with the Chinese.
good example....but, in the 70s Triumph (motorcycles) went into administration,, a sit in, eventually the government supported the workers co operative and the factory opened again only to close in the 80s. Move on to today, almost an identical product, a simple 650 twin built in India (the Royal Enfield) is a massive sales success...if only they could have hung on for another 40 years ha ha... :-). Im biased, I still ride a 72 Triumph. As an aside we went to buy a VW 'UP' a couple of years ago, the sales staff were awful, we bought a Ford... Sod em.
So you are comparing the company that makes the Bugatti Veyron with the one that made the Princess and the Allegro.... That wouldn't be much of a race.... 😊😊
Fox3shooter: I see the cause as quite different. After WW2 all the German plants were rebuilt. Leyland/BMC had old plants. British management was gutless. British designs were poor. There was no money to build new plant and better designs. Bloody-minded unions made it much worse. These were problems Germany did not have. Germany is suffering now because of countries in the world giving money to EVs, and the Chinese government having thrown money at their EV manufacturers, to burn off all the competition. That's the key difference. European and US manufacturers are being undermined by _governments_ not by equal competition. Then, to finish them off, energy prices in Europe - especially in Germany - have gone up. That is a _government_ problem again. German governments allowed the country to become reliant on cheap gas imports from Russia. That has all gone now, and the costs of the energy to build stuff in Germany makes the products hard to sell - a vicious spiral.
@@TURBOBEATZZZ Because they are powerful, yet quiet, the hot new trend and do not release burnt fuel gases around you and your kids. Think about the smartphones. 1-2 years and you throw it away, battery and all. Same with EVs, just the timing is several years more :)
The main question is who can afford in Europe the brand new vehicle these days ? I bought brand new WV Passat in 2018. It’s only a bit over 6 years old now , 70k miles on the clock and this car already had lots of serous faults. Im the only owner , always service history with Volkswagen . I don’t think my car will last any longer but at the moment I can’t afford to buy another brand new WV, they are more expensive compared to 7 years ago.
That is EXACTLY why Im not buying any new car anymore. I have driven a lot of them for work, and its a joke how bad they are. Engines falling apart at 80 to 100k. Faults left and right, electrical, mechanical, paint bubbling within 2 yrs! Its a botch job.
Not really - the decline started in earnest when their politicians were fine with their external telling them to cut off their cheap energy source - a cheap energy source critical to keeping their heavy industries competitive. German politicians and lawmakers could have seen this disaster coming a mile out, but instead they worked diligently to help the master in their own restoring and re-industrializiation efforts 😂
For the last couple of decades the German carmakers have relied on the Chinese to make their cars more affordable.. Now the Chinese are going global, why should the consumers pay 30% more for a German badge? Next in line are Merc and BMW
Yes, I am tired of paying exorbitant prices for the Merc; high prices for car, high prices for parts and high prices for services. Not worth it. I am looking at replacing mine for a cheaper with better quality EV.
@@vanhocwong6689 It would be one thing if you actually got something for the money, but they've earned their reputation for poor reliability and selling the car before the warranty runs out.
The root cause was the NordStream destruction. Germany is an industrial powerhouse dependent on exports. All this pain is a direct result of being a vassal state and is self inflicted.

Net zero policies have finished the car industry. It's better for the planet to keep my 20-year-old Mondeo. Producing an EV and charging it using fossil fueled power stations is much, much worse.

@@stratman9449 Bullshit. The CEO at VW tried to go electric years ago. The unions have 50% of the supervisory board. They refused to allow EVs because it would reduce the number of components of the car and therefor the number of people needed. Another major problem is the EU's and Germany's embracement of green energy. Germany has shut down its coal plants and nuclear plants and put up windmills. Energy is wildly expensive in Germany as a result. Germany is no longer price-competitive. It makes it that much more difficult to compete on the world stage.
No , energy consists less than one percent of final car priece so it is irrevelent , what matters is that thay are making junk cars and charging premium for them , this year I bought new small compact car for my mother it was renault clio , why I chose it ? it has good rust protection and it wont rust as fast as VW, second its engine is not direct injected as german maded cars , yes it may be less powerfull but it wont have problems with coked valves , egr and list goes on , another renault engine benefit is that it does not use wet belt that is cancer in durability , on top of that french offering was almost 5k cheaper , so why buy german ?

This gets management off the hook because now they can blame future problems on the strike. They can say oh, we would have made it if it hadn't been for the strike, that was the last straw.
Funny, I was thinking that the union would still blame the management if they caused the company to go bankrupt, and look, here's someone who is saying that even before it happens, without looking at the evidence because THERE IS NO EVIDENCE YET! Human beings are so funny.
Which is ironic since the original management got fired for wanting to make changes ahead of time. VW has been actually one of the best managed car brands, especially during the early 2000s and 2010s. When the german brands were in a multi decade decline, VW expanded massively. They are still in a much stronger position than let's say BMW etc.
@@juliahello6673 Even if that was true, their voices would not be heard, so I think frankcoffey's comments hold. You underestimated the power of the Corporate press.
@@juliahello6673 I disagree. No matter how strong a union is, the managment has the final say (here in Germany). Unions suggest since years VW should increase vertical integration to balance out job losses by less labor intensive EV production. However this would mean, huge investments into VW future. So the management and investors decided to go the other direction. Paying out dividends instead of making the transition.
You have to understand, the total wealth of the Piech-family declined from 42 bn Euros down to only 39 bn Euros. This is unacceptable. Someone has to pay for their losses. 🤷♀😉
It's not just the car industry and it's worldwide. The CEO/CFO's, directors and shareholders have been taking more than what can be reasonably supported on the current and past business model. Now that they've run these companies into bankruptcy they'll jump with their golden parachutes while everything else crashes.
Their incentives are not tied to long term stability and quality products over the next 20, 40, 60 years, their incentives are tied purely to share price and dividend payments to shareholders on a quarterly reporting timeframe, the easiest way to achieve both of these outcomes is the continuous cannibalisation of the company. It’s the contradiction inherently baked into the capitalist system, that everyone tries to pretend doesn’t exist.
Lol, shareholders have lost more than half their money due to collapse in share price of VW. The measly dividends do not make up for it. You know who has been getting more than the business can support? The workers. VW plants in Spain, Portugal, Poland, Czech Republic seem to be doing fine. It’s only the ones in germany that are threatened by closures. Cross subsidizing german plants was never sustainable. The overcapacity has been there in europe and especially Germany for years. Every time the management has suggested to cut people and close factories, the unions have rejected it. They are still rejecting reality.
It is like the crew of the Titanic demanding a raise. The traditional auto companies dont want BEV since they make 20-50% of profit on after sales services. They know long term this will wreck their whole business model.
That's the dealerships, not the manufacturers...but the BEVs are inevitable. I'm not user what the dealership plan is? To milk out what they can from those franchise selling ICE, let the suppliers die, and then spawn EV centric dealerships for the few manufacturers left (since, at least in the US, almost all dealerships have multiple franchises for different brands)? EDIT: Or are dealerships owned by the manufacturers in Europe?
@@callmebigpapa Ah, that's what you were referring to. That's only about 10% of an ICE automaker's yearly revenue (so somewhere 0.5% to 1% of the vehicle's wholesale price per year). Not nothing but also not sure how integral that is to their existence. Especially since once vehicle leaves warranty 3rd party parts are very much a thing, and yeah most automakers are only going to be middlemen for a lot of that stuff.
I watched the combination of corporate and union greed destroy the steel industry in Pittsburgh in the late '70's. Over 90% of the mills and jobs disappeared in less than a decade.
I am from Pittsburgh. I left when they closed the mills in 1980. You forgot to mention the Democrats. They destroyed the city also. TOTAL CORRUPTION SINCE FDR.
Environmentalists get a share of the credit for that, too! Not many decades ago, the United States made HALF the steel in the world. Now it is China that makes half the steel in the world. The United States makes 1/12th the steel that does China. Environmentalist demand over pollution caused the steel industry to migrate to China. Now climate change politics will cause a lot more industry to migrate to China, where such issues are minimized or ignored.

The VW IDs were badly executed. It’s a shame that VW couldn’t work out some sort of a deal with BYD, and build/assemble electric Golf (or the Bug!) in Germany that sell for
They did that with CDM ID3 with upgraded Chinese info systems but does not change that is a half-cook product. The concept of building and executing a product is totally different
I am glad you mentioned the 'bug' because myself and my brothers were brought up on them, (in Ausi ). OK they was gutless, but that is why I am still here to comment. The build quality even in those days was far above anything else I had owned. However they did tend to roll over, my brother had the Combie and rolled it, quite a common outcome in those days. I used to stay sober a bit more.
They could have done at the expense of their legacy ICE production. Trying to hold onto the out dated technology has meant they delivered sub-standard hobbled EV's out of fear that they would lose the ICE revenue. Bad luck VW, your indecision means you've now lost both.
There can never be a car assembled in Germany that sells for 20k. Unless it’s 4 years old. VW has 7 of the top 10 EV models on sale in Germany, including the tos selling Skoda Enyaq which overtook the Model Y. This Skoda is based on the ID MEB platform.
Again, that is BECAUSE of the unions. Dietz tried to force the company to go electric early on, but the union, together with one of the elected board members joined forces to kick him out because they thought that it would be less employees were needed.
The problem is upper management probably won't be taking a cut. Let's see the CEO step forward and say I will be paid a normal wage for this year to help keep the company afloat. No other Bonuses or work arounds for upper management. Have this done before asking people on a basic wage to take a 10 percent cut.
The shame is that the German product quality that was once the envy of the world has has been abandoned by their automotive industries. VW Group’s EV offerings might well be fine vehicles, but they no longer maintain the public trust.
This is what happens when politicians meddle with companies. Why did they not introduce electric, hydrogen, and other initiative vehicles to the marketplace and let market forces decide which vehicle is the more popular. People don't like being pushed into a car that is not fit for purpose.
This pathetic union is just trying to get every last cent out of them before they have nothing else to take anymore! I have been in a union, it's good in ways but this union is truly destroying what little is left. They are selfish. These people WILL lose their jobs and they have no skills for anything else that pays like this. Likely be losing their homes.
Sovereign risk has taken place in the automotive industry. It is no place for any government to determine how an industry should be developed. The government's shift towards a full EV manufacturing policy was a mistake and it was ahead of the curve of the market. The majority of customers do not want an EV. It is a government policy that set their industry on fire, not the company itself that was forced to do something they had no choice. With the importance of manufacturing in Germany under threat, the governments will change their policy on the EV market and allow for improved hybrid technology along with the development of sustainable fuel. I know that you like predicting the future but this is the reality... The government will change policy and allow the industry to survive the way it should in a capitalist system. The market will choose what they want.
When you look at something like the Cherry Tiggo 4 Pro or MG ZS and what you get for the money, there is no longer any reason to opt for a German car. Living on a name can only last so long. They should have stepped up their game with quality and lowered prices; instead, they did the opposite
I'm German living in China since 10 years. Sadly, Germans think they are superior to everyone else. They should see what happens in China now, I think western brands will ALL be dead within 3-5 years.
Canada (whose gov refused to sell Germany natural gas) has striking post office workers who are demanding pay raises and gender affirming care even though Canada Post Corporation has not turned a profit for 8 years. Best o luck!
The Chinese heavily subsidize their BEV's. EV's are not cost effective to produce except as very small lightweight (minimal range) commuter cars. This is due to the lack of energy density in the battery packs.
No, 120,000 haven't walked off the job. The IG Metal Union representing 120,000 workers held two-hour warning strikes, using approx 66,000 workers. Everyone is back to work. It was only about half of what is being claimed.
Same effect: Unions will speed up ruining what could be saved if they change. I would reinstall Norbert dies and clean up current mngt including the board
@@HNedel Similar strikes occured in Boing, they announce 17000 additional personel to be fired, around 10% employed in the company. Even companies with products needed to be delivered to contracts suffer strikes badly. If strikes take full effect, VW must close 2 additional factory to cover additional loss.
Unions and strikers are shooting themselves in the foot. You can't make an affordable car when you have to pay 100k euros or more for every person turning a bolt. Their wages aren't actually that high, but if you add up all the benefits they also have to pay for employees, the cost to manufacturers is insane. Euro countries need to focus on controlling the cost of living. Then wages wouldn't have to be insane to keep up

German here. I can tell you, the car market for legacy brands in the EU is absolutely safe. This continent is overregulated to the brim unfortunately. It will take decades to build a charging infrastructure on the level of the current chinese one. The home ownership rate is also almost non existent in central Europe, meaning the thought of just purchasing a bit of solar and slapping it on your roof? Well, can't do that. To top it off, the energy prices are so insanely high here, that fuel is often cheaper than charging, despite dozens of fuel taxes. So VW will survive, pretty confident, but their China market is crashing and that's half their income. Their strategy now is shrinking the least profitable plants away and those are all in Germany. I actually think VW has still a strong position amongst all the legacy brands actually, VW and Toyota. Cause these two brands are down in China, inside the competition hell. BMW, Fiat, Nissan, Renault, Ford and so on... those are the brands most likely to die. They can only survive off protectionism. It's the french and Italian car brands that pushed for EV tariffs, which have been failing for decades now. Not VW after all. Unfortunately, the unions, politicans and everything here, they are all completely blind to the actual global developments and we are paying the prices for their foolishness. 2 year long recession already.
The Chinese market represented almost 50% of total vw sales, the entire german economic Business Model at large has come to an abrupt end with its car industry being the most obvious and largest victim. Germany had made several wrong bets and now all comes crashing down at once.
Bro Germany has not grown since 5 years in real income terms. And there is no light at end of the tunnel. Germany has to pivot away from auto industry if it has to survive.
It amazing that EV cars made in China can save the planet but instead are actually illegal like some kind of bad drug. Why, we need to protect the rich. What a messed up world we live in.
You feel smug driving a German car. You just can’t explain how they can make something feel so tight when you drive a VW. Competing with Chinese Subsidies is impossible. For example every BYD that comes out of the factory looses a fortune.
Remember when British Leyland was striking and VW came along with the MK1 Golf and ate their lunch? Seems like those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
To turn it around, Lee Iaccoca worked for 1 dollar a year for at least two years at Chrysler. Then the board insisted on paying him a bonus- which he then donated to a medical charity!!!🎉😮💕
They canceled the VW Up/eUp completly this year. A well selling car. Who is surprised that you do not need that factory anymore, when you decide to stop the product you produce there?
the id van starts at $80K in Canada before tax and options. Who in the actual fuck is going to spend $90K+ to get a VW mini van out the door. $50K is a stretch... $90K? Holy shit balls. The thing is inflation is the real culprit here and there is nothing the car makers can do about it. Amazing.
Only for Western markets, we are used getting ripped off, they say. While they will sell to Chinese at half the price: ruclips.net/video/AwZc0R86wOQ/видео.html
the difference is, the chinese auto workers would be crushed by the military if they protested against pay and conditions. All these commentators blaming 'the Unions'.....be very careful what rights and protections you're willing to give up for the sake of cheap goods
@@billyb6043 We have many non-union car plants all over the US. The workers are well compensated with good working conditions. The big factor is they can be fired for chronic under performance unlike the UAW.
I feel like the trend towards high margin vehicles is partly to blame here. The Volkswagen up is still a very popular car in certain markets, with 2nd hand models near me going for around €9000. The idea was to move away from high volume compact cars to high margin larger cars, but sometimes it's better to make a little from a lot of customers instead of a lot from a few customers. I think Stellantis has the same problem, the Aygo/107/c1 was an absolute hit, but has not been replaced.
They stopped selling the base cars in North America except for the Jetta, GTI and Golf R. Everything else is a Big SUV or electric cars. God knows what the hell is going there.
Here's what I don't understand. When executives get companies in trouble, the workers lose pay raises, bonuses, and jobs. But the executives get bonuses for cutting cost. What's wrong with this picture?
Well the picture you are presenting is wrong. Herbert Diess former CEO warned this would happen years ago, but trade unions prevented his reformation plans and threated to strike, which eventually got him fire. The damage is self inflicted.
@@elapplzsl You are half wrong. The unions wanted to go along with Herbert Diess, if VW would balance out job losses by less labor intensive EV production with increasing the vertical integration within VW. The investors then decided, that they dont want to invest into the EV transition including more vertical integration, but instead pay out more dividends. Herbert Diess was not ousted by the unions, but by investors who wanted to go the other direction.
I worked in Europe. I found it very difficult to find suitable skilled candidates. Bringing quality talent is also extremely difficult due to visa delays. So the only solution most companies are opting, " Outsource the service to India, and outsource the manufacturing to China". Europeans youths are least interested in technology, mainly due to low salary gap between low skilled and High skilled jobs. Europe should either make it easier to bring talents from rest of the world and reduce their cost of living. Or accept the reality that European companies are going to move all their factories and offices to outside Europe.
@@pizzamad3334 Few reasons why Europe cannot manufacture, * The products manufactured in Europe would be 2 to 10 times expensive than Asian made goods. This would cause common men reducing their spending power. * Due to above reason, cost of living will increase and purchasing power decrease. As a result, population demand wage hikes, thus further increasing the cost of production. Only long term solution would be to reduce minimum wage, increase pay gap between skilled and non-skilled jobs. But this would not be an easy option, as Europeans are used to the high minimum wages and low cost products from Asia.
I don't think Germans want VWs EV cars. VW can't sell overpriced EVs while Tesla builds cars in Berlin and sells them cheaper. Also, Tesla has a better range and software plus their own charging network.
We have a beautiful Rivian RT1. It’s very cool, but I always rely on my 2021 42mpg Jetta to road trip! Electric cars are definitely not the only answer .
You have been calling this over the last 12 months and have been a voice in the wilderness. The irony is that we have seen it all before and always with the same result. In the UK it started with the car industry in the late 60's and ended with no major car manufacturing by the mid 80's then it was the coal as the major resource started to run out and followed by the heavy engineering. The decline bought about industrial unrest which hastened the decline. It seems that we dont learn the lessons of history.
@@damfadd For those who wish not to learn you are quite right but for those who take the time to remember our history they very soon realize that it has all happened before and there are many lessons to be learned by taking heed of what was done wrong and try not to make the same mistakes. Sadly we so often ignore it. What is happening to the Japanese and German car industries happened before to the British car industry for the same reasons. The industry stopped innovating and put profit before the customer while technology moved on around it.
The author appears to be happy that thousands of families might loose their existence. Weird attitude. And he should get the facts right: this strike was not about increasing wages. This has been already settled for 2025 and 2026. This strike was to demonstrate against a management that uses this "crisis" to fire the people that built the company. VW will for sure not go down. But some jobs (20%) will be removed in Germany. That is long overdue as for EV production simply less workforce is needed.

This strike has one perverse advantage to VW. It stops production of vehicles that were piling up unsold.
When the product can't be sold, it is a reasonable choice to stop production.
Ah yes. "The Stellantis Effect."

good example....but, in the 70s Triumph (motorcycles) went into administration,, a sit in, eventually the government supported the workers co operative and the factory opened again only to close in the 80s. So you are comparing the company that makes the Bugatti Veyron with the one that made the Princess and the Allegro.... That wouldn't be much of a race.... 😊😊
In the current environment it’s because the public have said no to EVs and governments are destroying the industry.

@@xXdnerstxleXx I beg to differ.

I guess giving up a reliable supply of cheap energy wasn’t a good thing for German industry after all.
It was taken by Americsrael.
who needs cheap energy when you have batterie$?? Lot$ of batteries$.
They closed too many coal plants at one time ! Bad !
It's not just the car industry and it's worldwide. The CEO/CFO's, directors and shareholders have been taking more than what can be reasonably supported on the current and past business model. Now that they've run these companies into bankruptcy they'll jump with their golden parachutes while everything else crashes.
There's more to it than that.
The comment sounds wonderful, got a lot of likes, but it has nothing to do with reality.
Stop making EVs
@@aoeuuaoaou Wait so the manufacturers dont make the parts the dealers sell? Or at least middle man them?
@@callmebigpapa
Ah, that's what you were referring to.
No wonder their cars are so disgustingly unreliable.

@@SeattlePioneer No doubt, but around 50% of China's low level manufactures moved out of China too due to their labor cost. For environment, they ended mining of bitcoin in China and moved to place like Kazakhstan. Climate change politics won't cause any industries moving into China as even many Chinese industries are moving out of China. Unless is modern high tech.. If China minimized or ignored climate change then why is China #1 is solar power? Building new dam for more power? And going with EV cars?

VW management is fully to blame. Tesla just built a new car factory in Germany and is doing well. Volkswagen cars are outdated and poor value for money.

No the green Party and the EU that install a 10 000 EUR fine for ICE...as a result demand for 2 million cars is missing in europe. VW would easy sell 1 million more without the crap.
VW used many plastic parts that broke after a couple of years. These parts are expensive. Build a good car, then build an electric car.
The UK experienced this very thing 1975-1980 failure to adapt to better cheaper foreign cars (inc. German produced ones). Its going to hurt, but you’ll adapt in 20-30 years.

Actually, the automobile industry is not that important.
When Britain stopped producing cars for many years, the British economy was not greatly affected.
Let the market decide everything, and the intervention of amateur politicians is the most terrible.
It’s important for each country to choose its leader very carefully, a good example is German, Scholz has been a disaster for German.
I use to work at a plant that employed around 2,000 workers. I was transferred to another location in another state. There was a "strike" at the plant I was transferred from. The car industry doesn't attract intelligent people to resolving conflicts , only those who are after easy money!
These companies live like most companies live quarter to quarter . Few quarter down , panic and shedding start .
Sad to see a repetition of the destruction of the UK car industry. In the UK it was mostly the unions with incompetent management. In Germany imho it is mostly management and to the lesser extent shortsighted unions.

Being a German, throughout my life I drove German cars (OK, my first car was a Renault 4😇) - So, after owning VW, Audi Mercedes, BMW and Porsche, today I have a Ford Ranger and a Tesla. Figure that. At the beginning of this year I sold my VW Amarok and instead of replacing it with the new Amarok, I went with the original, as the new Amarok is basically by 95% a Ford Ranger. I cannot believe how the politicians and unions have, in tandem, been able to destroy what was once the driving factor of our economy. It may need to go down a bit further with our economy, but make no mistake: German companies will rise from the ashes as soon as the core values are found again.
Hopefully so.. what are those core values and how can they be converted to competitive products?
All core brands have been watered down, from Bosch to Archer, VW to BMW, Siemens etc

Soo, the largest cost for manufacturing is energy cost, not salaries. Germany pushed the Green Tax ( note, CO2 weighs as mush as propane, 44g/mol, air is 30g/mol) this doubled the energy cost, their by increasing production cost by 50percent. Chinese don't have a green tax.
What facinates me is that the CEO, COO, CFO etc. draw incredibly high salaries......
True - If profits go down 40%, perhaps their pay should reflect that?
Precisely!
Gotta get the money from the peasants, not from the Kings and Queens.
The impact goes far beyond VW Group. In our small town in the South of Germany the major employer is a motor testing company which does engine testing for all major manufacturers. As of Jan employees are on short work. They are the major taxpayer in our city so city budget for next year is in peril. This is a shock for our economy at all levels and people don't realize it.

German labor and energy costs are high, regulations are onerous, reliability is poor, and their technology is lagging.
The shame is that the German product quality that was once the envy of the world has has been abandoned by their automotive industries.
VW Group’s EV offerings might well be fine vehicles, but they no longer maintain the public trust.
Well, if you don’t force companies to follow such mandates without thinking about the consequences. This is all due to the EV adoption is falling….
This is what happens when politicians meddle with companies. Why did they not introduce electric, hydrogen, and other initiative vehicles to the marketplace and let market forces decide which vehicle is the more popular. People don't like being pushed into a car that is not fit for purpose.

The damage is self inflicted.
yes ..fire all executives, let the workers manage the company ...so simple ..
Your statement is right but it does not change the outcome. Blaming is never a solution. Change attitude is the start to think about revival
The Executives are responsible. They showed themselves to be morally bankrupt with dieselgate. Don't think that did any good for their customer base.
We need tariffs here and less tax
But we already import all of those rocket scientists and Nobel Prize winners from Islam and Africa. Don't they count?
It's called communism, well disguised in "eco / green" clothes.
@@pizzamad3334 Few reasons why Europe cannot manufacture,
* The products manufactured in Europe would be 2 to 10 times expensive than Asian made goods.
@@learningmaster8060 less government spending needed.
I don't think Germans want VWs EV cars. VW can't sell overpriced EVs while Tesla builds cars in Berlin and sells them cheaper. Also, Tesla has a better range and software plus their own charging network.
The Chinese EVs are the real VW killers. Especially in China.
This. If Tesla can make cars in Germany and sell them at the prices it does then why can't VW? This is a management failure and nothing else.
no one cares about EV's in general.
@mirceaalexandru400 i hate to say it, but I kinda agree. EVs are not as convenient as gas cars, especially on a long trip.
Hybrid is future Toyota wll win
We have a beautiful Rivian RT1. It’s very cool, but I always rely on my 2021 42mpg Jetta to road trip! Electric cars are definitely not the only answer .
With the exception of California you cannot give away EV's in the US.
History will teach us nothing thanks Sting
@@damfadd For those who wish not to learn you are quite right but for those who take the time to remember our history they very soon realize that it has all happened before and there are many lessons to be learned by taking heed of what was done wrong and try not to make the same mistakes. Sadly we so often ignore it.
What is happening to the Japanese and German car industries happened before to the British car industry for the same reasons. The industry stopped innovating and put profit before the customer while technology moved on around it.
Herbert walking around with a shirt saying: "I told ya so!"
109%
100% 😂 The damage for trade unions is self inflicted.
@@elapplzsl It's almost as if you want to lose their jobs.
I purchased a pair of bongos made by a German percussion company. High quality and expensive, the drums are the best bongos I have ever owned.
Hi, Sam! Watching you for news about Europian auto industry. Great job, keep it on!
