Quick explanation of HVAC, drain lines

HVAC systems in the attic of a home often incorporate a condensate drainage system to remove the moisture generated during the cooling process. This moisture is collected as condensate, which needs to be drained away from the unit to prevent damage and maintain efficiency. In some cases, this condensate is drained through the lavatory sink basin drain, and here's how it typically works:
Condensate collection: The HVAC system contains an evaporator coil, which cools the warm air as it passes through. As the air is cooled, moisture condenses on the coil and drips into a condensate pan.
Condensate drain line: The condensate pan has an outlet connected to a PVC pipe, known as the condensate drain line. This line carries the collected moisture away from the HVAC system.
In the event, the main drain line is clogged the condensate will trip to the emergency drain pan, and then out of the home via an exterior PVC pipe typically located in Plain view through a window to indicate to the homeowner, but there is a problem with the system.
