I've also been in a no buy and it's amazing how quickly the desire comes for new pieces but it's even more wild how quickly it LEAVES. I've been keeping strict wishlists for a long time and forcing myself to think about something for a week or two is almost a guarantee that I won't end up buying it. That little hit of satisfaction of the hunt doesn't mean you have to purchase and consume! Also definitely feel you about getting rid of clothes and accessories.
I do the same. I have a Pinterest board called wishlist and the amount of things that I just remove from the list after I’ve forgotten about them after the initial thought is so large
Love it!@@victoria4 I actually have a section of my wishlist for "decided no's" where I archive all those things to remind myself that the desire will pass and that I need to think about my purchases haha

I do something like this when I thrift! I take a picture for "memories" LOL half the time I'm to lazy to come back to the store to get it if I'm still thinking about it or chances are it's gone already. Or on Facebook market place I save the item and literally forget about it haha
This is exactly what I do, and if I genuinely still want it, I buy it when I actually have the money

I too have been trying to control my purchases. Since I thrift almost everything I own, I--like you--AM counting thrifted pieces. (I watched another youtuber who was not counting thrifted stuff.) I bought a couple of things in January before I made the decision to stop. But last week there was a t-shirt I wanted and I told myself, NO. I keep thinking about it and the pleasure I have gotten from not buying it far outweighs the pleasure I'd get from wearing it (bc I already have way too many clothes). So that feeling of being proud of myself is keeping me going.
This kind of did crush me because you would look so cute in all the things you didn’t buy but it’s also because i am a second hand shopaholic I loved this video and have also been trying to be more aware and conscious of what I’m buying and why I’m buying it

In december I donated about half of my closet and since then i've been so much more careful about what i but. I had "nothing to wear" because i hated all of my clothes and they were no longer trendy

My goal for this year is to only buy secondhand except for obvious exclusions like underwear. I've been pretty 50/50 with buying new vs. secondhand the past few years and I need to get back to the secondhand lifestyle. Not only is it better for the earth and my wallet, but its the best way to find interesting pieces. Fortunately I'm pretty good with impulses, I let things sit for at least 2 weeks before making a purchase. If something is bought by someone else, I almost feel satisfied because 1. I know that piece is going to a loving home, and 2. It wasn't meant to be mine. I'm holding strong so far!!
YES, speak on the value of keeping something for a little longer instead of decluttering it as soon as you’re tired of it or it falls out of style!! I’m just learning this with purses and bags I bought years ago and just kept and kept and kept; suddenly they’ll have a little renaissance and I get another 20-30 wears on them after not using them for years. (Might be worth noting: buy or thrift genuine leather bags, buy leather conditioner, keep that bag forever.)

i NEEDED this video today!! lol. literally of all today i’ve been reflecting on my purchases in the past months, YEARS even, and i regret so many of my purchases because i bought them for instant gratification.. i don’t wear a lot of what i bought from depop, whatnot, thredup, etc. looking back, i only bought things because they were trendy, thought they were cute but wasn’t a part of my personal style, or like you said, it was on sale and i thought id never find something like it again bc its secondhand 😭 like some fashion lovers are doing now, i want to wait like a month before purchasing something - really think on it and see if i truly still like it, or come to the realization that i don’t need it LOL 😭 most times, i’ll realize i don’t need it. also i love how you mentioned not to get rid of your clothes right away just because you stop wearing them!! i’ve been thinking about too recently! i miss some of the clothes i donated bc i would so wear them now😢 really looking forward to this series laini! love your insight and im sure these videos will help many of us refrain from purchasing as well 🥲

I was doing a no buy 75, but I did buy 1 thing two weeks ago. It was really hot and I didn’t have anything under my sweater LMAO (I am not counting it because it was a need rather than a want lol) but something I noticed is that for the summer top I did buy, I really thought it through and what works w my wardrobe. I stopped doing the picture thing for everyday because I noticed I found myself repeating outfits and I was so happy to do so! I only took a pic if it was a new fit.
I also have a list of things that I didn’t buy! Maybe it’s finally the time for me to try a no buy! Loved this video Laini, thank you so much for all the inspiration ❤😊
I’m moving to London from NYC this summer, permanently. And I’m planning on doing it just through baggage I can take on a flight. I’ve been making a capsule wardrobe out of my wardrobe and slowly been selling all the rest. I literally have 7 piles of clothes in my living room rn. I think I might try to just live in my capsule wardrobe for the rest of the year! It’s a great opportunity to try this

I think my shopping habits have slowed a lot in recent years, but i find myself slipping into old ways. Telling myself something is a "steal" is so dangerous lol.
Also,being in canada, second hand shopping online can be incredibly expensive because of shipping costs and additional taxes, so i realised how much i was saving by using those sites sparingly.
For now, im going to seek the items that have been on my list for literal years. I have so much that i hardly wear, so ill try and focus on that more.

This was a really awesome video idea! I try to force myself to style what I already own because I have so much in my closet and really think twice about getting rid of pieces. I bought shoes on sale this December I’d been wanting since summer 22. The fact I still wanted them after 1,5 and now I looooovee them feels great.
Imma be honest this was the month I spent the most on stuff in my life 💀 but hear me out it's the first time I am able to buy myself stuff after gaining somewhat financial freedom for years. However, I'm still very careful with what I buy and so far I haven't regretted anything. And I'm in the process of redecorating my room so it's not just all the clothes I buy

I’ve been unknowingly doing the rule of five but every six months instead of a year. I was broke for a while and didn’t buy anything for a long time and then got some pieces for summer and recently for winter and actually it’s amazing how a couple of pieces can freshen up the whole wardrobe

I keep all the clothes I want in my notes app and then if I forget about it after a month then I delete it off. If I remember then I purchase. I like to check off everything of my “donts” list. Like the color yellow or bell bottoms or square neck tops etc.

Unpopular opinion but I am not a fan of this trend. I feel like it’s too cold turkey and screams fad. I think people will stick to it for the first 2 months but when spring and summer comes and brands come out with new collections people are going to cave. The fact that you felt that you had to “bend the rules” just to still stay on track for some reason rubbed me the wrong way. I feel like if it resonates with you and you feel and know that you will genuinely wear it and keep it in your closet for years, then it’s most definitely worth the purchase. I think the only time we should be more conscious about our purchases is when buying things that have popped up because of trends/ micro trends and that’s when we should marinate and see if we actually like the trend or if we have just been influenced. I think the obsession that other creators have implemented in people is sort of an unhealthy way to approach abstinence from the things that genuinely make us happy. Idk, to me it’s just too hardcore. But that’s just my 2 cents. Love you Laini ❤️🫶
I get it! I knew bending the rules would throw some people off as well. For me it’s just about being more mindful with purchases, a lot of the times when I buy one thing I feel like I already caved and can buy more.
This rule just gives me another step before over-consuming. Also with bending the rules, it’s better to at least try and make small changes instead of just giving up completely. I dont think this, or anything, has to be that black and white. Just because I’m not a minimalist doesn’t mean I can’t want to consume less, or just because I don’t only buy second hand doesn’t mean I should just give up and buy all new clothes! I really value showing my imperfect way of fashion online, I don’t try to fit a mold and just do my best.
