I went to See’s candies today September 7 2024. It was one of several locations in my town. I can go to hickory farms in my city as well. Their sweet hot mustard is one of my favorite.
Hickory Farms is still around, and doing reasonably well. They no longer operate stores all year, operating under a similar model to Spirit Halloween with seasonal stores. They also have online sales, sell wholesale to other retailers, and have a mail-order catalog that they ship around near Christmas time.
The video is wrong about See's Candies. See's is not closed at all. There are locations all over the place, including mall locations. The company is on solid footing as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway since 1972. With the pandemic, they added overnight shipping and partnerships with food delivery services such as DoorDash and UberEats.
Came here to say this - One of my grandmother's favorites. This is why I don't Like & Subscribe before watching (as suggested). Thanks for being diligent.
Also you can find See's sold in other Buffett-owned outlets like Nebraska Furniture Mart. Also besides malls a number of airports - Houston/IAH comes to mind and LAX.
There are several See's Candy locations in Los Angeles and Orange counties. I don't know what the hell this narrator 's talking about. And they're inside the malls. Expensive to be sure, but they are not that hard to find. Don't expect to leave without spending $30-50 . Unless you're on a budget.
I call SHENANIGANS! I've gotten my mom a box of Mrs See's dark chocolates EVERY year for her birthday since I was in elementary school. There's a Mrs See's in Old Town Scottsdale and another one in Mesa, both Arizona. Shenanigans!!
I loved so many of these restaurants. Beyond the great food it was the companionship of friends and coworkers to go to affordable and unique restaurants. Such fond feelings resurface just looking at these restaurants I've long forgotten about. They're gone and are so many of my old friends, too, but I can feel the memory of the happy times. Thank you for letting me not forget them with this program.

There's one orange Julius on the Northern Mall outlet in Las Vegas, NV. It's really hard to find one these days, like the current time. But they were everywhere back in the 1980's and early 1990's. This brings back memories from my younger years, that orange beverage was a super popular drink, way before iced coffee like today. Iced coffee in the 1980's was the underdog, while the orange forth was the ace. I'm lucky to have one DQ near me, here in Las Vegas. The funny thing is now the iced coffee is the ace, and the orange forth is now the underdog, as of 2024. That's over 40 years of changes, as much as I like what those Millennials and Gen Z are enjoying these iced coffee, as a Gen X I enjoyed the orange forth more, but they are increasingly harder to find outside the Dairy Queen at the Northern Mall.
York Steak House was my favorite. My mother used to take me every Saturday to the Natick Mall in Mass. We would eat at York’s I would get the Steak burger and Steak fries with chocolate pudding for dessert. This was back in the 70’s. I loved how you could watch them cooking your meal.
We still have a straight up Orange Julius in our mall in Medford, OR... No DQ logos at all. Also, we still have a See's here too... Not in the mall. Strip mall on McAndrews.
Oh I loved the Magic Pan and Houlihans.. miss them but they are a good memory.. Our neighbors ALL worked at the pan.. so we ate there often! Loved their spinach salad. At Houlihans I used to get their Chicken Parm Pasta.. yum.. Great video.. a blast from the past.. but it made me so hungry lol..
Should we start a corrective list of things they got wrong? See's Candies (still in operation), Hickory Farms (still coming to a mall near you every holiday). The Original Cookie Company, Orange Julius (still at my local mall), Piccadilly - HELL - they even say they are still open, it;s down hill afterwards as many more have NOT disappeared.
😮Say what?!! The several See's Candies locations have not closed down or gone out of business in my city. In fact, the one at the Galeria mall that's been there since I was in elementary school in 1971 has received modern renovations and upgrades to it. 🍬 🍫 🍭
indeed! I have had birthday parties at the one in Canoga Park as a kid and they announced the name regularly for announcements for things like a zoo delivery, successfully eating a trough, etc. I remember how THEY pronounced it and this announcer got it wrong repeatedly.
@@ElCapitanDeLaNoche Quite right. I went to Farrell's not far away in from there (Northridge) countless times as a kid. That was by far one of the best places to go for kid's birthday parties. It was phenomenal in its glory days, most of my friends' first choice even just as an attendee. Later in life, as an adult, I actually met their founder, Robert Farrell, who had written a book about customer service. It had a funny name that I never forgot, "Give 'em the Pickle!" It has been many years since I read that book but the gist of that title was inspired by a customer who wanted an extra pickle and staff wanted to charge him for it but Farrell advised to just give it to them. The cost of the pickle relative to the long-lasting experience of being treated kindly and generously would more than pay off on return visits. The downfall of Farrell's was all because that man was no longer leading. Amazingly, I just found it on Amazon. I am going to re-read it as a result of this conversation. Here is a link to it if you're at all interested: amzn.to/3ZOTNN2
I remember Farrells from age nine: my parents and I were seated at a table, and suddenly a siren started sounding, so I thought it was a fire alarm and was ready to leave calmly as with school fire drills. It turned out someone had told them it was my birthday, and several employees surrounded the table and did a total musical number. Good memories!
My second favorite place was Hickory Farms. I loved it because they used to give you free samples of their cheeses and sausages. My mom used to give their sets out for Christmas.
Kenny Rogers Roasters Was my favorite place to go to. There where two locations in New York City. One was between 72nd and 71st streets and Broadway, and the other was down on 13th street and 6th Avenue.
I remember _Roy Rogers_ and it was always good. They and a delicious apple crisp as well as both the sandwiches were good and the chicken was always fresh made and tasty. I miss that place as they had such a great double cheeseburger. Also, Morrison's was absolutely good, and the food never had bad food.
Oh I remember The Dairy Queen! They had the most delicious hot dogs and milkshakes I can almost taste them. I miss old places like The Dairy Queen, The Burger Chef, and The Pizza Hut. MMM who remembers The Pizza Hut, anyone else?
You missed one, though it's very hard to find a good source of information about it. Orange Bowl Pizza was a mall pizza chain whose main business was selling their pizza by the slice, though you could order an entire pizza. Their iconic dessert offering was the O-Joy, a soft serve orange dessert. I guess I could call it a orange sherbet, but it was dispensed like soft serve ice cream. They also had vanilla and chocolate soft serve ice cream. All of the Orange Bowl locations closed suddenly, and we didn't have the internet back then to determine why. They just disappeared. Gone, but never forgotten - great pizza.
I believe places like Morrison's and Picadilly are why people thought a was a picky eater cuz I'd get like a BLT, a grilled cheese, or just desert. Cuz I just don't like bad food😂
Over 200 in the U.S. alone. My brother manages the location in Visalia. Previously in Hanford. I used to go to the one in Manchester mall I never went to the one in Clovis though.
I was a road warrior in the northeast in the 80's 90's and was a regular in Houlahan's . I called it alcoholic HoJo's, Good drinks, good food and consistency. I miss it.
There's also still, according to Wikipedia, 34 Houlihan's restaurants. There's one in Naperville, Illinois that I've gone to frequently. Yea this video is pretty "Sweet Honey Iced Tea"
MAN the memories I have of Orange Julius!! Not only did I meet my eventual wife when she was working at one of the few remaining 'pure' Julius locations by the early 1990s, but 20 years before that when my family first moved across Canada from Thunder Bay Ont. to Surrey (Vancouver suburb) B.C. when I was like 4 years old, I remember the day we went to the local mall Guildford Town Centre and my father had his parking space stolen by a total asshat who then flipped him off to boot. However, asshat was driving a convertible with the top down....Dad went to buy an Orange Julius but found a 3/4 full one left abandoned on a table instead, took it out to the guy's car and dumped it all over his seat and dashboard. ;-) Dad was a sweet tempered man, I've never seen him pissed like that before or since. :-D Good memories. Also, does anyone else remember "Keg Country Chicken"? It's not really a mall restaurant but it's an offshoot of The Keg that no one else seems to remember. Very similar to the Kenny Rodgers Roasters style, we went there once and it was SO disgusting for it's high price that we used to mockingly sing the slogan for it: "KEG country chicken! NATURALLY gooood!!!" but no one else knows wtf I am talking about it came and went so quickly. Was it possibly a Canada only thing? Anyone else remembers it, please say so!
My first visit to Morrison’s was in downtown Mobile Alabama. Loved it. This was in the 60’s. It’s also where I saw yellow rice for the first time. Delicious lol😊
Morrison's & Sambo's served up some great food - delicious; a lot like Eat 'n Park only much better quality. Another fabulous mall restaurant was Stouffer's back in the '70s. Totally yummy.
Kenny roger's still exist, at least in our country, the philippines. In fact theyre growing their branches. They offer different chicken recipes very often. They also now sells hickory ribs and burgers.
Incorrect. See's candies is still alive and kicking. Just not in malls. Though my mall gets a popup every Christmas season. I never saw a store front for hickory farms, it was always a center isle kind of thing (80's), but agree it's just factory now and sold by others.

I miss Quincys and Ryan's Steak Buffets before the super buffet epidemic that birthed places like Golden Corral style buffets and Here on the gulf coast our local Dairy Queens serve the OG Orange Julius recipe drink and at certain locations can get it swirled with vanilla in a cone 😋 I wish they would bring back the steak finger dinner box and mushroom Swiss burgers back at DQ! I just miss how simpler the food was back then and how you knew where to go for exactly what you wanted and knew where to find it easily because you didn't have all these different food chains everywhere you look like it is today.
Farrell's in Conway, Arkansas (or maybe Little Rock). If you at 'the trough' then it was free ... my brother ate it, got the flu that night and lost ALL of it and more overnight lol ... good times ... good times
If you would, I’d LOVE for you to find Mama Rigatoni’s Pizza mall chains. Their big triangular pizza slices were my absolute favorite. Their pizza was actually amazing. But I can’t find anything about it online. It was in our local mall in the late 80’s and early 90’s.
See's Candy in the Boise Towne square Mall is still in the same spot that I worked at at Christmas time 2006. I would work there after working at RC Willey. I work for two different companies but the same time the same time the same. Both are owned by Warren Buffett weird to think about.
Sees is still alive. I went into the store on Market on Thursday and I go in every time I go to San Francisco to doctors appointments. I have been going to Sees all over San Francisco since I was 12 in 1964 and my girlfriend and I go to 3 Sees locations in Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek at least once a month. I fail to understand WHY this guy thinks the company is gone. I also send Sees candy to friends back East who now LOVE their chocolate.
The only ones I miss are Kenny Rogers' Roasters (STILL the best rotisserie chicken I've ever eaten), Orange Julius, Houlihans and Blimpie (stlll open in GA).
Seems we have 3 See's Candy locations here in the Denver area. 2 are in strip-malls (although i wager Aspen Grove is a 'higher end' strip mall.) One is at the airport.
SEE'S is Alive and Well here in Scottsdale, Az. KENNY ROGER'S ROASTERS is doing Well at Malls in the Philippines along with SHAKEY'S PIZZA and MISTER DONUT. Not all are gone, many are in different regions.
I went to See’s candies today September 7 2024. It was one of several locations in my town.
I can go to hickory farms in my city as well. Their sweet hot mustard is one of my favorite.
I love that sweet hot mustard but we have none here in Ft Lauderdale. Maybe a mall kiosk at the holidays but not much else.
See's is most definitely still open!! You must be in the San Francisco Bay Area? ❤
The narrator doesn't say that See's is no longer in business, he says that it a very slim chance that u will find 1 now.
I drive by their horrible chocolate scented Lego shops often around SoCal.

We have one here in Scottsdale AZ and it does land office business. I don't eat candy but when I get the hankering it's See's for me!

Sacramento as well
Also in San Diego County. Still going strong.

Most definitely a few free standing stores in the San Francisco Bay Area! ❤
Wasn't this supposed to be about "Mall Restaurants"?
Exactly!
Exactly! And not only that, but "Mall Restaurants" that have gone extinct.
I think they included strip malls.
Oh yeah. It was ,huh???😂😂😂😂
I forgot all about the title 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Click bait
How did you manage to mispronounce Arthur Treacher's name... TWICE??? It's even pronounced THREE times in the commercial clips.
My grandma loved Arthur Treacher's Fish. I remember eating there with her.
We had Ferrells at Wheaton plaza 1970s and then came Shakey's Pizza! Ah the glory Dayz!
There’s a See’s Candy in Greenwich Village, NYC on 8th street near 6th Ave.
still a few Roy Rogers still exists in Northern Virginia area. I know of 4 locations alone and still go to them every so often
Their fried chicken is really good!
The home office is in Frederick MD, and there are at least a dozen throughout Maryland. And one on the Jersey Turnpike, a few in PA
Wow. I used work at Roy Rogers after school. Lines would literally be out the when there were chicken promotions. Damn good chicken though 😂

Instead of See's Candy, maybe you meant Fannie Mae Candy? That was closed and bought out by Russel Stover.
Or was it Fannie Farmer, which were present in New England shopping malls when I was growing up
