When I was very young in the 70's our family would take family trips in the car every summer and we would always stop by a Howard Johnsons and it was AMAZING , great food and service 🤠
The late 70's, 80's, and 90s were a far better time for food/shopping experience and quality imo, despite not having the "tech" we do today. What a great time to have experienced in America.
For shopping, I think you can make that argument, particularly at the meat counter. You knew your butcher in the 70s. For food, in particular restaurant food? No. We're much better today than the 1970s. It's not even close.
I was probably around 12 years old and I just won my first BMX race @redbud so my grandparents took me to the HoJo in Benton Harbor,MI for dinner and a huge sundae that came in a, what i thought at the time, was the biggest fancy dish ever. So good.
I remember going to Ponderosa’s as a young kid in the early 90s. One of my best memories, was my family and I traveling to universal studios in Orlando, Florida back in the summer of ‘95, these were calm and happy times as a kid stuffing my face! 😂
Loved going to “Steak and Ale”. We used to go there to celebrate as a family. My daughter and her future husband had their rehearsal dinner there. I noticed that the quality going down. But we still miss you Steak and Ale.
I was born and raised in Houston Texas and the majority of the Bonanza locations in the city once Bonanza vacated the building's most of them in this area became adult-oriented entertainment venues
you forgot SIZZLER another Bonanza like restaurant what I remember of Burger Chef was NO sit down, it was all takeout many of these I have never heard of...
there's a ponderosa stake house in vincennes Indiana the home town of America's clown Red skeleton we go there all the time to eat its really good so number ones not that accurate
Ponderosa AND Bonanza are owned by the same people and there is a huge error in the video about these. As of april 2023 there are 22 left in combination....not a few hundred as stated. Go to the Pon-Bon and see for yourself. The Brown Derby section shows an unrelated chain of Brown Derbys in the Ohio area where five locations are still open to this day. As for Howard Johnsons...again...error....there are NONE left open as of 2022. Trader Vic's is still a global brand with locations all over the world. Geno's Burgers is not gone either....2 locations still exist. Ground Round up next....yep errors here too Ground Round is not gone...still 15 locations. Shrimp Boat....yep...bet you can guess....they still exist too....7 locations. White tower....why does it constantly show White Castle images? Yep though...no more White Towers :(. If you want subs....get the facts right
We got stuck at Stuckey's once. Became a family road trip joke. Actually, there is not enough space to tell you about all the restaurants and not to forget about their specialties, so there will be a second chapter about these restaurants. So hit the subscribe button!
Ponda"GROSS"a, what me and my cousins called it🤣 still miss it though. Sunday nights with our grandparents. They would stay and play pinochle after🥲🥲 good ole days.
Honestly, I don't miss the restaurants I miss the memories I have with my family members that are no longer here. My late grandmother loved Ponderosa just as much as Cracker Barrel, so I had a lot of meals and memories of here there.
I used to love LOVES which was a BBQ fam8ly restaurant. Weirdly the name, in the orinal font and incorporated heart design lives on in a truck stop chain ....

First one went from 700 to 400 locations.... But, you know, it doesn't exist. 🙄
Howard Johnson’s was a huge loss.

The ground round was the biggest loss! They had everything, I could eat there 3 or 4 times a week and not be broke.

Diverse culinary styles? Ummm...no. All of these chains were serving similar middle-American cuisine. The only slightly unique items were the crepes.
Stuckey’s?…
We got stuck at Stuckey's once. Became a family road trip joke.
