      Unsure about the 230i but an m240i, even the last gen, is more than enough car for daily driving and is likely more reliable as the b58 has been proven over the last few years to be a solid and highly tunable platform.

    @TheTopher I was considering waiting for the G87 M2 w/MT, but ultimately went with 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 w/MT. I wanted a sports car closer to 3000 lbs than 4000. You have driven both extensively. How would you rate the two side by side? Which would you choose if you had your choice?

    • @drjk7565
      @drjk7565 Год назад +1

      Since the lowest Cayman trim with a NA flat-6 has a far higher base price ($95200) vs the M2 ($64195), would you say it's worth the enormous $31K gap for lower weight and better engagement?

    • @Alex718GTS4.0
      @Alex718GTS4.0 Год назад

      @@drjk7565 Yes, because I was not overly concerned with the price. The weight, 4.0L NA motor, superior MT in the Porsche, and being mid-engine were the strongest influences in making my decision.

    • @drjk7565
      @drjk7565 Год назад

      @@Alex718GTS4.0 Understandable. To me, the G87 M2 and the 718 Cayman (only with the NA flat-6) are kind of modern, German reincarnations of the Mk4 Toyota Supra and the original Honda NSX respectively. The Supra was far heavier (1570kg vs 1270kg) so it couldn't best the NSX on a racing circuit (see some classic episodes of Best Motoring for proof), but it's famed 2JZ made it a staple of drag and roll races. The NSX on the other hand was widely praised for its handling prowess and raw engagement.
      It's a similar story with the G87 M2 and 718 Cayman. I got a feeling the new M2, just like the Mk4 Supra, will become a staple of straight line races with its S58 engine, while the Cayman continues its tradition of being the best pure mid-engine performance car this side of a Gordon Murray T.50.

    The thing with modern small cars is that, compared to their bigger counterparts, they're made shorter and narrower, but they did nothing to the height. That's why the proportion is all wrong and ugly. Compare this M2 with M8, you'll find the proportion and ratio of the M8 so attractive.

    After seeing the M2 in person, I was surprised it wasn’t as ugly as I was expecting… it was worse. It’s simply an abomination visually. I mean, really, how many levels does the hood need? I’ve seen elaborate wedding cakes with fewer tiers. The front grill and lower air damn design is as bad as possible. I could never walk into my garage every morning and feel happy with the purchase, no matter how quick it might be. BMW is out of their minds with these current designs. Contrast this with something like the new Mercedes GT coupe, which looks bold and aggressive yet elegant. This M2 will age about as well as those 2004 Chris Bangle era cars. 🤮
