I've got to say that the Maverick is probably the most exciting and practical platforms Ford has come up with in quite some time. These things could really be the answer for a lot of young families just starting out. You guys need to try it out with some snow-tires before much longer, to see if it makes the vehicle more drivable in adverse weather conditions. A lot of small businesses and delivery places would be interested in something that fuel efficient.
As I was watching this, it was said that the Maverick is the most efficient pickup ever. My thought was, well it can't be as efficient as a VW Rabbit Diesel pickup from the 80s. Well, I was wrong, as VW claimed 39 mpg apparently. It also only had 48 horsepower. The Maverick seems to be a pretty amazing little pickup. I think Ford is going to sell them by the boatload.
Thoselilrabbits diesel trucks I had a friend that had one he said he got like 55 MPG that was combine but it got real squirrely on slick roads if you was hauling anything
Had a 2door 1980 VW Dasher 5spd non turbo diesel brand new for 14yrs. It was 60hp and did 0-60 in about 30 seconds. Built super heavy literally a brick crap-house. On road trips top cruise speed was about 70mph max. Given the truckers did just about that we simply would draft trucks and given we were the same speed up hill it didn’t matter. 50-54mpg at the pump was typical road trip mileage. Around town low 40’s. That diesel had a bad habit of sheering connector rod bolts which it did at 150,000. Stopped dead while sitting at a stop light.
@Daniel G Similar execution as a Toyota hybrid. If as reliable maintenance will be less. Brakes last longer, no drive belt, no alternator, no starter, very simple transmission with no reverse gear. If you doubt this trust me that the hundreds of thousands of cab and uber drivers who snatch up every used Toyota hybrid are not after low operating cost.
I had a 1985 VW diesel Rabbit when i was in highschool in 1985.. It was rated to get 55 mph, but it was so gutless that you had to floor the gas peddle the entire time just to keep up with traffic. Even then you could barely keep up with traffic and you were blowing everybody behind you away with thick black smoke. Ended up getting around 30 mph or less when all was said and done. It was a piece of shit.
Ford Maverick for the win! What an incredible little hybrid truck at such an affordable price. Ford is killing it right now! No other truck manufacturers offer such a variety of technology and powertrain options.
Also worth noting, you maxed the load capacity on the Maverick with all of those large logs and hauled them around the ranch. The Ram did not? So it is not really a completely fair comparison. The Maverick wins regardless. That is amazing Fuel economy!!
@Daniel G it’s an eCVT which is different from a normal CVT 👍🏼 I thought they were the same when I first saw the Maverick too but apparently the eCVT is much much more reliable vs the CVT
@@marcuscastro1263 Its a planetary gear set. No belt. Very reliable. Only reason they call it and IVT is because they can hit any gear ratio by changing the e-motor speed which is one of the inputs to the planetary gear set.
Yes hybrids are very dangerous off-road they burst into flames la lot worse than gasoline. The parts are expensive computer chips will be rare for a decade, your electric hybrid truck will be a boat anchor before you finish paying the payments.
@ShoutingATclouds I don’t think you can make that statement about ALL Hybrid vechicles . Would I want a 100% electric vehicle 🚗. No I wouldn’t. A Hybrid That also runs on gasoline is another story. After all the technology has come a long way. There is now an entire Race series where all the cars are 100% electric ⚡️ It is called Formula E
This is exactly what I want to know about Maverick. Thanks for the good information. I ordered Maverick hybrid and waiting for production date. Maverick is exactly what people need these days.
I also have the AWD ecoboost with fx4 and tow packages…I have tested mpg on 87 to be right at 29, but on a recent hwy trip from Indy to Erie, PA I pulled 36 mpg using 93 octane with 300lbs of gear in the bed…I love mine has 5k miles on it now got it January 5th
I think the Maverick is going to be an amazing vehicle. For a lot of people, they only need a truck a few weeks (or just a few weekends) out of the year, but for the rest of the year, trucks are too big, too expensive, too fuel consuming for their practical needs. The Maverick goes against those issues. For people shopping for an entry level vehicle, price wise it's going against small and midsized sedans, many of which it is more fuel efficient. It looks to be a good choice ignoring that it is a truck. For many people who need a work truck more for bed space rather than big hauling, this is the perfect vehicle. many construction workers just need to haul around a lot of tools, not so much tow: again, perfect. Lots of fleet cars, any that need to be replaced now have an option that is A) cheap (21k is cheaper than a lot of compact cars) B) fuel efficient, and C) a truck! Honestly the only people who I could see not liking this truck those who get huge trucks for the appearance, or the biggest off roading is when they drove over the planters at the grocery store. Sure, when it comes to raw capabilities, it's not an off road or towing beast, but there are other trucks for that, Ford has the ranger and f-series. But they hit it out of the park when it comes to filling in a market segment that has been empty.
Finally! I have been waiting so long for a TFL Hybrid Maverick MPG test. I have a Lariat Luxury Hybrid on order and I can not wait to get it. This makes me even more excited than I already am. It totally seems possible with the right kind of driving to get 50 + MPG out of the Hybrid Maverick.
40+ mpg in a truck is excellent. Never thought I’d buy a 2wd truck, but I’ll keep my Jeep & maybe get a Maverick for runs to the Coast. I’m getting 16mpg (at best) with my JL on 35s.
I remember in the early 2000s, walking around Ford lots while waiting for my oil change, looking at the window stickers on the new Rangers. The fuel mpg was barely any better than the F-150, especially with the 4wd. That made me wonder, "Then what's the point? Why not just get the F-150?" Glad to see that Ford has corrected this with the Maverick.
Too true. I can get better MPG with a V8 1/2-ton than many ppl get with a V6 mid-size, just by setting the cruise at the speed limit. I got 22-23 MPG with a 5.7 Tundra, 5.3 F-150, and 5.7 Grand Cherokee. The quickest trip I ever drove between C FL and Chicago was in that 5.3 F-150. It got over 600 miles on a tank, so I only had to stop for fuel once.
Same happened to me back in 2015. I looked at a 2015 Tacoma and couldn't agree on price. Waited a year for new and improved 2016. They had 5 on lot and all priced at $38,000. Over $10,000 more than year before. Went across street and Colorado was about same price and same as Tacoma for lack of space in back seat. Ended up with an unsold 15 Silverado for $32,000. Traded it for an 2018 and still have it. Plenty of room in back seat, good for towing. BUT 20mpg on a good day. I traded in my 2016 Soul for an XL hybrid Mav and now Silverado gets driven once or so a month. First 4 tanks came in at over 40mpg.
41 mpgs is insanely impressive as is, taking into account that includes when the vehicle was overloaded and driving up steep roads, I'd say its goes from being impressive to be legendary.
When it comes to hybrids, there should be a disclaimer on the fuel economy. *Your experience WILL vary. With the hybrids I've driven, 50+ MPG out of the Maverick is VERY believable. However, there will be people that buy them and get less than 30. I'd be willing to bet you can knock that Maverick under 20 quite easily. It's Colorado. Take it out during a super cold and snowy day. The engine will run itself ragged trying to keep the interior warm and windshield defogged. With the right terrain and traffic, you'll see 60+. It's possible to even break 100+. And with those numbers in mind, your experience WILL vary.
You can go into the programing using the steering wheel controls to to assign a correct value for the mpg. Mine was off ~1.3 gallons (high) on my '20 F150 Lariat.
I have a maverick XL coming in February 2022. I currently use a Jeep Patriot 2009. I have done the math and by purchasing a new car along with considering my insurance I am actually saving money by purchasing a brand new vehicle. Along with getting a factory warranty, having the ability to tow, the pickup bed and being a compact pickup truck this is a massive win for me in the long run
If you go and watch the log hauling video you'll see the Maverick on its max payload while the RAM has nothing on it. Sure, most of the hauling was done downhill but you can still see the Maverick on flat grounds with the logs on. Surely that has to make a difference in mpg and, albeit small, it's worth considering given how tight the final results were. I'd say this is a win for the Maverick
I think Ford checked all the boxes for me except for the center cluster in the interior. I'm not a fan of the shitty little integrated screen that people are already having problems with but Ford is headed in the right direction. I cant wait to see what the Maverick can become in its next generation.
Ya that's a big one for me. The lack of cruise control, lack of satellite radio in anything under Lariat WITH luxury package, and rotary shifter are big issues for me. Granted, if they're THIS efficient and THIS cheap, I can probably forgive those things....but it's still worth mentioning. But at least you can get a sunroof on an XL lol
@@jldude84 cruise control is standard on the XLT and up. You can also get adaptive cruise with the $500 co-pilot 360 package on XLT and Lariat. You're correct about the satellite radio though.
I wouldn't be surprised if eventually they put in a larger/better center screen in the future. They left space for it. I have a feeling that they are just currently trying to keep costs down during the chip/electronics shortage.
Maverick seems nice, still very happy with my new ranger purchase. I like sitting up a little higher and just how zippy the ranger is. Plus the extra towing power when I need it is nice
Literally, same here. Also the true 4x4. My tremor cost me 42k flat at 0 %. The lariat awd maverick i ordered was 37k at 2.9%. In the end the price wont be far off. Only a few k difference but a major difference in truck
@@andyvaldez212 that’s a great price on the tremor. I went with xlt sport, but just 2wd. I don’t really have a need for 4x4. Got mine at $32k and 0.9%. That was back in March when prices were still reasonable. Absolutely love the truck though. I’m glad I went ranger instead of Tacoma. I test drove the Tacoma and knew as soon as I pulled out that it wasn’t for me
The Mav is growing on me - just a bit - not enough but a bit :) The ext isnt horrible, I do not like the dash at all. However, the easy daily driving, the wood load you carried and the fuel economy - its growing on me.
I agree. Was a big GM guy for 15 years but last 2 generations let me down reliability wise. Now have a Tacoma but the MPGS arent that great. AVG probably 18mpg mixed driving. Actually thinking about a ford next! I always avoided them because of their reliability issues in the past but it seems they have really turned a page in that dept. This maverick is impressive
I’m with you it’s with one caveat. The price has to be right. The higher end 30+ thousand dollar Mac doesn’t kinda stops making sense to me. Also, has to be the hybrid. Otherwise you might as well get a Ranger/Tacoma.
I am super impressed at what that Maverick Hybrid can do! I looked if I could get one in the most basic package I could just to run errands and haul stuff around town, and we can't get the Hybrid here in Mexico. That's too bad, I think that Ford would sell a ton of these down here if they were to offer it! Cheap to buy, cheap to run, that is the winning combination for any best seller here in Mexico
Nice job need to bring back the mpg loop on all vehicles. Hope y’all doing this on the AWD ford Maverick and Santa Cruz. But 40+ on the HWY great. I think if y’all didn’t do the load test in it will be up there and just mpg loop will be up there.
Agree on the extra work on the ranch load test affecting enough to skew the results. Also the 30 second thing on the pump could easily have been off by a couple ounces which was all that the difference was.
One thing worth noting is the Ram and Maverick went the same distance at the ranch (only a couple miles) and the loaded portion was almost all downhill
In the 90 s I had a 1992 civic hatchback cx. It would consistently give me about 38 mpg. I loved that little thing, we would be everywhere on the weekend with only $6. Ever since I fell for Honda and steered away from domestic manufacturers. What I’m saying is if Ford can really prove themselves with the Maverick, new faithful customers for years to come.
the new ones are probably about the same in terms of efficiency, but they are much more powerful and practical than older models, my 2nd gen fit (with no cvt) will do about 45mpg on the highway and around 30mpg in the city. Ford maverick is a very affordable and attractive offering, but I'd wait for 5-10 years and wait till the potential problems are known/resolved.
@@kpokfposkf 5 or 10 years? The Maverick might be the size of a current Ranger by then if history tells us anything. Second year models have usually got the bugs out.
This is such a game changer. I could see my 78 year old mother getting a Maverick. Kind of like the original Mustang, a car that appealed to all age groups.
@Daniel G Prius, Camry, Civic, Highlander, RAV4, and C-Max owners disagree with you. AND...If you can change out a hybrid battery, or even just bad battery cells, or swap a traction motor even, typical hybrid ownership costs are even lower than most Prius owners gush about. Maintenance is even cheaper if you merely keep the hybrid-battery cooling fans/ducts clean. Watch some RUclips videos on battery replacements. It's not exactly rocket surgery.
@Daniel G Hybrid systems are very durable, and hybrids almost always cost less to own over the course of a decade or two than strictly gas powered cars.
To get that kind of efficiency out of either truck is beyond impressive in my book. My best combined mpg in my 2011 Ram Sport crew cab 4x4 fluctuates between 15.5 - 15.8. It is however worth noting that mine has the very out-dated 5-speed and obviously doesn’t have any aerodynamic or electrification advantages as the current RAM models offer. Very well-done test. I’m incredibly impressed with that Maverick. Unbelievable, that’s not too shabby at all!
My 2015 F-150 5.0 2WD on OEM tires/wheels would easily get 22mpg hwy. I took a trip back from North Carolina to Florida averaging 71mph and saw 25mpg. Granted the computer was about 5% optimistic though.
Maverick should be in the running for truck of the year .. absolute game changer type of vehicle .. I have a ranger right now but really considering a hybrid mav .. still need more real world highway mpg numbers since my drive is 99.9% four lane with 60 mph speed limits
My 2020 Rav4 Hybrid is rated at 38 mpg highway. That is exactly what it gets at 75-80mph. Rated at 40 mpg in city, but I frequently get closer to 48-50 mpg. Maverick ordered.
I totally love my all-wheel-drive 2.0 L maverick with 4K tow package. Although it is popular I did not want the hybrid because I wanted all wheel drive. I’m about to upload a 2000 mile driving impression video👍🏽👍🏽
@@benderaviation I’ve gotten 30mpg on a trip to Houston so far. I live 6 miles from my dealership so my in town mileage is between 23-26mpg depending on my driving mood 👍🏽👍🏽
The logging *had* to have burned fuel to carry the payload through the terrain before descending the hill. That alone should bring the fuel economy above double of the Ram.
@@AJourneyOfYourSoul the video shows the Maverick moving to various sites for the logs. It was moving with payload before going downhill with the full load.
Toyota is playing catch-up right now. It’s crazy that this is their wheelhouse and they chose to chase what the big 3 were doing instead of translating what they do really well into a pickup.
Great MPG on the RAM.. Amazing on the Maverick..but Ford please build a hybrid Maverick with selectable AWD and you got yourself a customer. Great video as always!
I like how Toyota does it. Rear axle gets a dedicated 60hp electric motor. In the snow, 60hp is more than enough to spin rear wheels. Less complex and very usable.
Sure you need AWD? Probably so, but the Coloradans that I knew 20 years ago all had FWD cars with studded snow tires. Summit County locals. None had 4WD all had studded snows.
It doesn't count Tommy, the lil Maverick needs more break-in....lol! I wasn't going to consider the fwd version of the Maverick but after watching the ranch video and how well she did, I just might consider it. Slap on some more ranch worthy tires and she'll be a much better lil ranch pickup!! Great videos like always guys!
I have a ram with etorque. It saves gas in town if you don’t have a heavy foot. The electric motor will kick on and do some of the work for the V8 when coasting at 30-45 mph. It takes a bit of practice to know how to coax the truck into this mode but once you know how it’ll start boosting your mpg substantially.
That’s Awesome. If the Mav has the big payload and the Ram didn’t then that extra force needed would account for a drop in mpg. So the Maverick might have actually won.
Love the teamwork of all the hosts! And I think the test y'all performed is the most thorough, with real work not just city and highway driving. It was put through its tests, and came out with some impressive numbers. It's not meant to be a heavy hauler. So I'll give that a break and not knock it for being an efficient daily driver and weekend warrior vehicle. And it looks like it still lives up to the "Ford Tough" mantra.
But you guys did work on the ranch so if you just did strictly driving and came right back to the pumps, wouldn't the Maverick be higher and same with the RAM? Plus wouldn't that have been the true MPG loop test?
There’s actually a service message about that radio problem you are having. It says engineering is working on a fix for it. It is a known problem on the Mavericks. SSM 50297
You guys would have to have a very early production truck since the hybrid was just approved for shipment. Those press vehicles had to come from a late prototype or pre-production run.
funny enough, a good friend of mine just pre ordered a 4wd xl maverick. he's on a budget and for about 26k there is simply so much practicality in an easy to park package. (an f150 simply cannot fit in his current parking garage).
I'm definitely gonna have to drive one of these little hybrid trucks. My biggest concern was that the 191hp in a ~3,600# rig would be pretty slow, but apparently they're a lot more peppy than that power/weight ratio would suggest. And...if they're even CLOSE to 40mpg hwy at 70-75mph (higher speeds obliterate truck mpg, here they weren't going that fast)...for the money they're asking, it'd be stupid NOT to buy one.
This is awesome. My brother just bought a new Ram 1500 Eco diesel and I'm ordering a Maverick soon. So we'll do this same test. The big deal is he will have paid twice as much for his Ram although it is 4wd and a diesel.
My full size 2017 ram 1500 tradesman quad cab 2wd gets 20 in town, 25 mix and 28 hwy mpg. Terrific truck and all normally aspirated 3.6 pentastar engine is great. Plus has the highest payload of all of Dodges half ton trucks.
I mean, it looks cool, gets over 40 mpg with mostly higher speed driving, uses a very durable and proven powertrain, and it's affordable. While also being a pickup truck than has a higher payload than some fullsize trucks. Are there seriously any new vehicles in the 20-25k range that can match or even come close to the Maverick's combined package of being super efficient, affordable, versatile, capable, reliable and cool looking? I can't think of a single new vehicle on sale that offers the full package like the maverick does for the price point it's at.
I'd like to see if Andre got his baked potatoe. Also that truck would be a hell of a truck to own for myself. I probably drive 300 miles a week for school and work and leisure. That thing would be amazing on mpg considering most of the roads around me are 55 mph roads.
The Maverick does 95% of what half ton truck owners actually use their truck for. I have a hybrid on order and will rent a uhual on the rare occasion if needed. This will be my fourth pickup and my first non 4x4. Never imagined I’d buy a FWD pickup.
Haha, yeah I agree at least 95%. Get a Mav. Hybrid or a real 4x4 truck like a used Tacoma. Not the Mav. EB+AWD, I don't understand that one. I ordered a Mav. Hybrid. When you say uhaul, that could be truck or trailer too! Home Depot can rent you a real truck, or Turo peer-to-peer. Even then the Mav. will match most Turo trucks.
Lyons and Longmont on the roadside! I bet I’ve been down this road. Lived in Longmont for years! I only realize how nice it was after I moved to California. Used to think it was lame
Yes it can. I have a Ford F 150 that averages 16 MPG and a new Maverick that averages 34 MPG. Sure the f 150 is 10 years old but she's been well taken care of. In fact I got the Maverick Hybrid to keep some mileage of the F 150. Love them both!
Both seem like good trucks minus the infotainment issues in the Ford but for my needs I would take the Ram it has the towing capabilities that I would use that the maverick does not have. Also that Hemi sounds good.
The Ford Maverick in Canada that's 49 imp mpg (5.76 L/100km)........impressive. I also have a 2021 Ram crew cab 5.7 Hemi and your Ram was spot on the same 24.6 imp mpg (11.5 L/100km) In my book, considering its size......not bad ! Enjoyed !
In addition to the comments discussing how the ranch work would skew these results, I would also note that driving on the back country roads at 55mph will give you significantly better fuel economy than doing 75 on the freeway. I get about 19-20 on the freeway at 75, and about 24-26 doing 50-55 on county roads
They should do an interstate test at 75 to 80 and then a city test of stop and go traffic. Then average it out. More real world numbers then this test.
One thing worth noting is the Ram and Maverick went the same distance at the ranch (only a couple miles) and the loaded portion was almost all downhill
Looking forward to an MPG E loop too. With all the new E trucks hitting the market it would be interesting to see how they perform in real world driving vs on paper with EPA and manufacturer claims. Especially interesting with Ford because they’ve really been stepping up their actual MPG figures vs a few years ago when you would struggle to get close to the ratings on the early Ecoboost models.
I considered a new Ranger, but the Ranger owners on the forums were all complaining about poor gas mileage. Not worth it, when an F-150 gets better mileage. New Maverick ordered.
I think the Maverick could beat world market diesel trucks when it comes to efficiency. I drive a 2021 Isuzu and I get 28mpg (US). Also, why is the RAM's payload so incredibly low? My little Isuzu D-Max's payload is 2425lbs! That's standard for world market trucks like D-MAX, HiLux, etc...
I always felt big trucks were a waste of money for most people. So I bought a 94 ranger 3 years ago and feel like it has handled all of the loads I've thrown at it. I don't do heavy duty work, mostly pull a 6 foot trailer with misc. tools and materials. Wanted something nicer and not standard... This will do just fine, now I just have wait a year until they can build it.
Great mileage for the Maverick, but I really wish Ford would've used the Ford Courier name instead, since that was a truck also and the Maverick was a sedan. Good job Tommy and Andre.
I can get 45+MPG on a 55MPH hwy from a 2.slo/CVT Subaru Crosstrek. It's only EPA-rated for about 32-33MPG hwy. I modified it with a hi-flow dry cotton airfilter. It gets even better MPG with stock tire pressures set for max payload. I run taller (60-series), stock-width (225mm), Falken Trail ATs now, and it can still whup EPA ratings. Set the cruise near the speed limit. I may try a Borla stainless catback for better flow soon too. The AWD 4K Maverick could probably top 30MPG pretty easily for a driver Iike me.
@@acdii 1st, the Maverick is a CROSSOVER pickup. It uses a CAR-like chassis/unibody, and people are GOING to compare it to vehicles they already know. Are you a "vehicle nazi" or something? Trying to tell/influence people on the internet what they can and can't say or do? You may have some control issues to discuss with a therapist. A dry, cotton, hi-flow airfilter is a simple upgrade...during routine maintenance that should be done on an ICE vehicle anyway. It consists of merely using a different filter when the stock paper part is due for replacement. It's not like adding a turbo, or even ram-air, or even a CAI or SRI. It's a drop-in replacement filter, that doesn't even use oil that could foul a MAF sensor. My tire change was similar, although the replacement AT tires fit a little differently, as they are almost 1" larger in diameter, while still not being much heavier. The speedo/odo are now more accurate, per GPS. Traction in snow and dirt are better. Durability is better. Ride, handling, and braking on pavement are similar. Ground clearance is 1/4" - 1/2" higher. Replacement cost is lower. Most people, outside of experienced dealer techs, don't even notice a visual difference vs stock tire size, and it requires no lift, fender mods, or wheel changes to fit these. I retained the factory wheels. Meanwhile, people are already lifting their Mavericks 1"-3" and fitting HEAVY 32"-or-so MT or AT tires. So...Your point is? One of my points was that an efficient, unibody, crossover pickup like the Maverick can be made even better with simple/cheap mods that don't have to break the bank, and it can be a great vehicle for many people even without such changes. Personally, I'd see about fitting 15" rims on a Maverick, to use affordable, light, siped mudders without needing a lift or fender mods...and without killing the great MPG, ride, and handling that the stock Maverick offers. People using lifts and considerably-heavier/larger/gnarlier tires are MUCH more drastically changing their Maverick or Subaru than I've done, and often still seem to like most of the changes. I pointed out that careful mods can be done without sacrificing such a vehicle's ability to exceed EPA or other ratings. How well do you think a Maverick would handle max payload or towing load with adjustable shocks and supplemental, in-coil airbags...vs a stock Maverick? My Suzuki DR650 isn't completely stock either, and it's much more fun and durable now than when it was stock, what with a skid, handguards, DR250 taillight, adjustable suspension damping, stainless brakehoses, Li battery, lighter convex folding mirrors, LEDs, etc. The Maverick could be a great platform for customizers to start with...or for people to enjoy stock.
@@RKmndo You are still comparing a modified car to a stock truck. A Honda Ridgline is also unibody but in the truck class. The Crosstrek is a compact SUV with a 1000 pound payload, vs the Maverick which has a 1500 pound payload. It has nothing to do with being a Naazi, its about the CLASS of vehicle. You know Apples to Apples. Now if you compared a stock Honda Ridgline to it, you are talking same class. Also the Subaru has a GVWR of 4300 vs 5200 pounds to the Maverick.
@@acdii And the Ridgeline is rated to tow 5K lb, with a non-hybrid, V6, AWD powertrain/drivetrain. The Ridgeline also shares a platform with a mid-sized SUV, while the Maverick shares a platform with 2 small crossover SUVs and a car. They're very different vehicles, just like my Crosstrek is very different from a Ford Escape. My Crosstrek is basically a lifted Impreza hatchback with roofrails. It can still pass for an SUV, or CUV, to be pedantic. Did I forget to mention the Baja crossover pickup? It was basically a Subaru wagon with the rear part of the wagon turned into a short cargo bed...an AWD car with a pickup unibody. What's your point? The same kind of mods I did to my Crosstrek crossover could be done to a Maverick crossover, regardless of if it's a FWD hybrid or an AWD EcoBoost model...or not. Similar effects on results could be achieved, regardless. What is a Jeep CJ, YJ, TJ, JKU, or JLU? SUVs? Carryalls? Pickups? They have rear "beds". Many CJs had tailgates. What about the CJ8? Does the CJ8 pickup become an SUV if you simply put a full top on it? Add a back seat?
I own an Accord hybrid which operates similarly to the Maverick. The reason the computer was reading so much higher than what you found at the pump is because your math implies that you used *only* 2.8 gallons of gas to travel those 114 miles, while you actually used gas *and* electric power to travel that distance. The computer is taking into account your mpge for those moments that you’re cruising on electric power alone
Great video. So what is the reasoning for the out of sink MPG calibrated differences between the Ford indication and actual? Is it the tires or drive gearing? They need to match the mileage calibration to the package made. Ford must correct this. It is false advertising for any media to tout this value as MPG. Glad it calculates out to the estimated EPS estimates. Great job guys.
Great MPG for both trucks! For going grocery shopping and smaller volume loads that Maverick is great! I'd have to ride in one to compare the comfort of the two trucks. I'm guessing the Ram wins hands down? You can get two Mavericks for the price of one Ram or any other full size truck or vehicle.

Around town low 40’s.
That diesel had a bad habit of sheering connector rod bolts which it did at 150,000. Stopped dead while sitting at a stop light.
Can’t sell the maverick fast enough when they not building them fast enough
14:29 - Ram E-Torque 20.456mpg
16:03 - Maverick Hybrid 40.831mpg
Measured over only 114 miles.
How far did the Mythbusters driver on each of their tests?
They almost always drove a different distance!
They kept changing their methodology!
@Daniel G It didn't. How about you watch the video on the ranch.
@@nckhrrs0609 This guy is so biased, lol just look at his comments. The only time he says something is to talk crap on ford

I can't get enough of this Maverick content. Keep it up guys!
Yeah, 'cause it's all I have with no Maverick in my posession and no word on delivery.
Same here haven’t heard anything from the dealer
I really want a Dodge/Ram competitor, looks great for dirt bikes and maybe a quad!
I’m not a Ford Truck guy but I must give Ford credit where credit is due. The little Ford Hybrid is amazing.
This is what ford did with the Focus.
There is now an entire Race series where all the cars are 100% electric ⚡️
It is called Formula E

@@shoutingatclouds6841 Ford's hybrid systems easily last well over a decade and hundreds of thousands of miles without issues.
This is exactly what I want to know about Maverick. Thanks for the good information. I ordered Maverick hybrid and waiting for production date. Maverick is exactly what people need these days.
If the info helps, I have 1700 miles in my ecoboost AWD Maverick (in 8 days) and it’s averaging 29mpg so far. Very impressive!
Waiting myself. When did they say yours is coming in.
40+ mpg in a truck is excellent. Never thought I’d buy a 2wd truck, but I’ll keep my Jeep & maybe get a Maverick for runs to the Coast. I’m getting 16mpg (at best) with my JL on 35s.
a used prius is available right now.
My thoughts exactly, I'm getting 14 mpg in a Jeep Jk on 35s.
@@alexduey7868 I wouldn’t drive a Prius if it was free. I’m too macho for that 💩.
So the log hauling that you guys did in the Maverick was also done on this tank of gas? If yes, then 41 MPG is quite impressive.
41 mpgs is insanely impressive as is, taking into account that includes when the vehicle was overloaded and driving up steep roads, I'd say its goes from being impressive to be legendary.
@@KB-bh9hp hero’s get remembered. But legends never die.
@@alvareza3 Lol that's true.
Yes, the log haul was also done. They made two videos on the same day.
The logs were downhill though & the battery was used for reversing
That's it! I'm getting a Maverick!
Exactly my thoughts too. Hate the center cluster and am really excited to see the next generation.
@@jldude84 Rostra has an aftermarket cruise control available for the XL models.
I'm with you. I think it looks like a loaf of bread but I like the offerings outside of the EV version
@@EGGINFOOLS it is .. boxy :D BUT!! for the fuel and load - I might try it. (probably not but hahah)
@@Enchanted3DPrints Just do not buy a ram. I am sort of a gm guy and made the switch to Ram. Big mistake
Eventually they will, Mexico is one of ford's best customers.i don't think they will beat Nissan though.
Pretty ironic too, considering they’re built in Mexico.
@@TFLclassics when fully loaded, but the Maverick did have to move some of the logs to other locations to continue loading, right?
Wow thats freakin unbelievable, way closer than I thought it was going to be. Cannot wait to get mine!
This is making the wait for my Hybrid XLT way worse while currently driving a ‘78 Toyota SR5 that gets ~13 MPG 🥲
Well at least your upgrade will be worth it
I’m excited for you! Hope it goes well, assuming by these videos it should
I really want that hybrid system in awd!
@Daniel G lol
@Daniel G Hybrid systems are very durable, and hybrids almost always cost less to own over the course of a decade or two than strictly gas powered cars.
@@RKmndo The escape hybrid that uses this powertrain is well known for racking up 500k in taxis with virtually no issues. That Daniel guy is clueless.

What do I think,. .I am impressed with both trucks, but mostly with the new Maverick.
Well done Ford, and thanks TFL!
The Maverick is amazing at it's price point! Wow!
My Maverick sweet spot, both in terms of price and performance, is the XLT 2.0L turbo FWD. About $25K.
The logging *had* to have burned fuel to carry the payload through the terrain before descending the hill. That alone should bring the fuel economy above double of the Ram.
They followed the maverick with the ram during the logging video. They didn’t haul anything with the ram, but it was all down hill with the logs.
The pump auto-stopping is also not that accurate. They would need to do a much longer test to get a more definitive comparison.
@@AJourneyOfYourSoul the video shows the Maverick moving to various sites for the logs. It was moving with payload before going downhill with the full load.
Less than 3 miles driven with the logs, and as pointed out almost all downhill.
Toyota is playing catch-up right now. It’s crazy that this is their wheelhouse and they chose to chase what the big 3 were doing instead of translating what they do really well into a pickup.
It’s the real life comparisons and testing that draws us in. Good job guys 👏!
Ford needs to send TFL half of Maverick's marketing budget. B/C btwn this and the on the farm vids, the Maverick is going to sell like hot cakes.
Big difference between selling and delivering.
I ordered an XLT Ecoboost with the Luxury package, copilot 360 and Fx4 package last night! Thank you for the great reviews guys!
Less complex and very usable.
not bad on Ram indeed, with Wildpeak ATs
Very cool test. The Maverick is impressive for it's size, but I would need AWD in CO. I'm looking forward to the AWD turbo testing.

If you drive conservatively, I'd bet $100 the Ecoboost model will easily exceed it's EPA rating.
@@jldude84 I agree. I'm sure it will.

Awesome video! You really gotta stop topping off those tanks though! Can get into the EVAP system and cost you some repairs
Wow! Almost 41 mpg is impressive for any truck!
But you guys did work on the ranch so if you just did strictly driving and came right back to the pumps, wouldn't the Maverick be higher and same with the RAM? Plus wouldn't that have been the true MPG loop test?
I think the point of this test was to see what mpg would be like in a typical truck work day.
Interesting video, nicely done by my 2 favorite TFL presenters.
Fantastic job guys, amazing numbers on that little Ford.
There’s actually a service message about that radio problem you are having. It says engineering is working on a fix for it. It is a known problem on the Mavericks. SSM 50297
Forget gas prices, your red bull is $7.50 USD!?!? That like $10 CAD... Damn!
I'm thinking the mavrick is what the Australians would call a ute but I think it looks really practical and you really can't argue with the price
Love my 2020 Ranger Raptor. Might lack in power but how much power do you actually need on the road? My RR gets me 10.7km/l daily, thats 25mpg!
Great video, amazing result. My favorite TFL duo.
Amen.
Ford is going to sell a ton of Mavericks. It's just so practical.
Annoys me when trip meter is off by that much. Kudos to Ram on accuracy.
These 2 trucks are not competing for the same buyer. The RAM is over twice the cost of the little Ford.
Yeah i am curious about what the mpg is @80mph. Probably closer to the epa rated 33mpg...or less. Life is too short to go 55 lmao
Dang it now all I want is a loaded potato…Also, I really love that little Maverick!
I just want to point out that this wasn’t scientific because of the difference in ranch work, but that’s awesome
@@Fabwal I couldn’t agree more.

Great video. That is impressive gas mileage. Thanks guys
If you do the math before top off it’s 50 mpg and I feel if you didn’t do the log testing or ranch testing I feel you would have achieved that

That was an excellent test of the new Maverick!! Keep up the great work!! Cheers!!
I have a hybrid ordered. That's a pretty big difference in what the computer mpg said. Can they fix that, do they? 🤔
You can go in and edit the computation. It's really easy to do.
Should compare it to the Ecodiesel.
Called a dealer yesterday and had them put me on the 'if a customer backs out of an order' list.
I was pretty mad about Ford killing off it’s car platform, but the Maverick might just make up for it.
The Mav is a game changer
Yep, other manufacturers are going to be playing catch up
Great video fellas. Would love to see what the non-hybrid AWD 2.0L Ecoboost Maverick can do on the same loop.
Not surprised by the trip meter lying lol. My focus tells me I'm getting 24.3 and pump math says 22.2
Great mileage for the Maverick, but I really wish Ford would've used the Ford Courier name instead, since that was a truck also and the Maverick was a sedan. Good job Tommy and Andre.
What it's called doesn't make any difference to me. "A rose by any other name, would smell as sweet" lol
I wonder what ford is going to do with the skyline name in the US
That was a nail biter - I liked that! And I have a Hybrid on order!!
So basically you are trying to compare a modified CAR to a stock pickup? OK
@@RKmndo Its MODIFIED!!! versus a STOCK. Thats the Freaking point, have good day mam.
Ford Maverick Maniac channel has a video showing his Mav hybrid gets 20 mpg better than his Jeep Cherokee, wow.
Most efficient pickup truck ever made and it has 1500lb payload. And be people like “that’s cool and all but I don’t like the dash” 😂
I currently have a Ram 1500. Maybe get the Maverick for city use and light trips, but keep the 1500 for real hauling. Might pair nicely.
What's a "radio station"? lol Can I get Prime Music from my iphone through the speakers? That's all the matters.
