    Occasionally i may use honey, but mainly eat them bitter!
    I got used to it :-)
    it's actually only bitter when first hits your taste buds, but once you chew into a mush the bitterness significantly subsides...
    Most people avoid bitter foods, but according to the ayurvedic science of the six kinds of Taste and mental States and qualities they relate to, bitter taste (opposite of sweet) builds discipline energy in the brain and nervous system and balances out too much Water element ... has the quality of drying.
    No matter how much I was exercising, eating all healthy fats, A ideal Pescatarian/Vegetarian diet and staying away from sugar, dairy and wheat I was SO DAMN FRUSTRATED about my belly still appearing bloated a lot.
    Soon as I started eating a handful of Cacao nibs daily
    (deliberately raw) I noticed my belly started shrinking quickly!

    Sounds great but I read so much about raw cacao having fungi in it, so it's actually better to have it heated (cocoa powder) in order to kill it off. What's your opinion on that? Also, I love my homemade kefir and you also call it a superfood. Is the milk protein not a problem in this case?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth 9 лет назад +3

      Roonitochka If it's properly fermented, batch tested for mycotoxins and you are buying a reputable brand then you don't need to worry about fungus. Giddy Yoyo is the main brand I buy. You can read more about it on their website because they address the mycotoxin issue. The fermentation process should also be closely monitored to prevent this -- when people feel jittery and anxious from cacao it's usually a reaction to the mold and not necessarily the caffeine. That being said, if you don't feel well when you eat it then definitely avoid it. Kefir is definitely a superfood if you can tolerate dairy because it's very high in good bacteria.

    I liked your comments hammering the bad side of sugar and milk. However you pointed out that coco is heated and loses some nutrition. So much more nutrition is lost by heating the cacao butter. What do you think of the fermentation process used? Does that reduce micro-nutrient content?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth 8 лет назад

      +Laura Brookes Proper fermentation, using artisnal techniques should not reduce the micronutrients.

      Joyous Health thank you. Is it better to have raw cacao powder or nibs? I notice nibs are higher in fat but wonder if these are healthy fats which could help with anti ageing?

      +Joyous Health Hi! Which brand do you use? I was going to purchase Sunfood & add it in my organic Garden of life Raw Fit protein shake made mix with organic fat free milk after I workout. Some claim that cacao powder is toxic cause of the heavy metal content. Just about everything we eat has naturally occurring heavy metal; it's just that some brands have more than others. I heard Navitas Naturals had high amounts of heavy metal in it so that's why I'm interested in Sunfoods

    • @JB-sz4wy
      @JB-sz4wy 8 лет назад

      +Laura Brookes Depends on the way they do it - just like with fermenting/roasting tea coffee and other things - artisan/orthodox processed dark cocoa called natural is said to be better than Dutch processing which is the type that is not so good

    Is it going to improve the taste of my raw whey protein powder if I add cocoa powder into it ? . And will it taste sweet or bitter ?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth 4 года назад

      Raw cacao can be a little bitter depending on the brand so you'll definitely need to add something to sweeten it if your protein powder is not already a little sweet. Try some stevia or honey and then it will taste wonderful. Enjoy!

      Np. I just notice how a lot will even say certain things even about b12 for instance, and then one set of doctors will say another. You can find this is true for so much out there, bc doctors will do research from who wants them to do it. So its not always a trustable source. Nut when you have plenty of doctors stating how some civilizations have a cup of coco a day and live longer bc of it. Thats when you really gotta think. Do your research. Who are the doctors putting out that info and who is the one sponsoring that research to have that info out. Same thing in politics honestly. If you notice how most bad and false info come out about a party you can find its really almost always by the opposing side. The news stations that are geared for this party or just looking to put out a story. Bc thats there ultimate job is ratings. Which is why they will only put on air what they feel will lead people to what they want them to think about it and cut the rest of the interview.

    The "healthline" website evidences that studies are conflicted and inconclusive as to whether milk protein blocks antioxidant activity and/or their health benefits. It advises people not to worry about consuming dairy with antioxidant-rich foods. Go ahead and consume them together, as desired, it says.

    Wait, at 2:30 you said that milk proteins block the absorption of antioxidants in the gut. Do you mean casein? Or whey? Or are you talking about specific amino acids? What antioxidants? All of the ones in cacao? Can you cite your source for this, please? I' really like to read more.

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth 8 лет назад +4

      Hey Rick. Polyphenols are the main compounds affected by the casein and whey found in dairy products. Here's one study that offers up some additional information: www.worldcocoafoundation.org/wpcontent/uploads/files_mf/1388079715Gallo2013PostHarvestPolyphenolMilkProtein.pdf
      *Also check the references for additional studies! There are some great ones in there, but unfortunately, many of them aren't accessible for free. I hope that helps!
