    It's sad to think of all the great artist ruined by schools and people telling them they need to change.

      I think the worst part about that would be the fact that so few people let a guest actually talk (or at least that's the way it often comes out in the edit) that almost anybody interviewing Sam that isn't Sam would pale in comparison. He's such a great host.

    Whoa! Just realized she’s married (with a kid) to Adam Granofsky and they’ve been together for awhile. I’m a fan of The War on Drugs.
    Also, just realized she’s from Bloomsburg, PA. I’m from East Norriton and went to school up there. It’s a small town college town in central PA. What a small world.

    Difference is key in anything in life and most certainly in an industry like that. Thousands upon thousands of good looking actresses so statistically it becomes all the more important to find a way to stand out.

    Sometimes I just have to laugh at how the Universe tries to tell me things. I just filmed a commercial yesterday and coming out of it I was feeling really bad about it. I felt I talked too much and too fast and it was hard to shoot it because at the last minute they decided to age me 10 years and my face was covered in silicone and tight and itchy and they kept saying more expression...and I'm thinking yeah I'm trying but you've put this frigging mask on my face that is making it really hard to move without cracking it. I woke up this morning just feeling this huge anxiety that I had made a fool of myself, had fallen into the wrong profession and tricked these people into hiring me. I was fooling myself even. Turn on RUclips and this show, The Off Camera show is recommended, which I have never watched before, and randomly I chose this interview. I just laughed out loud, like thinking, ok, I'm listening Universe, I'm not the only one to go through this, I'm not crazy, and just maybe I shouldn't be so hard on myself and instead of shaming and hating on myself I can actually take away the positives of that filming experience and realize we all start somewhere and be grateful for such an amazing opportunity and what can I learn and do better next time. Coincidence I clicked on this video today? Maybe but it was exactly what I needed to hear and see at this very moment. I will be so grateful when that commercial airs! Thanks for reading this, if you did; as usual I'm talking too much, too fast and I'm sorry if this was boring, but it really does feel better getting the words out into the etherzzzz.

    Well, it makes sense if it's working and you're booking work. If being you isn't working, those are the folks who actually need advice.

    • @dayleclarke4433
      @dayleclarke4433 8 лет назад +3

      Not always true. There's endless armies of soulless actors and musicians who go through some kind of course who are all just a bunch of averagely talented drones.
      If you aren't at the very least tapping into yourself when you create something you should be doing something else and if you know something is right but isn't working then maybe what you are is something different than you think it is. That's why it takes work to figure out.

    • @devorahacts
      @devorahacts 8 лет назад +3

      Dayle Clarke Sometimes it's technical problems, or just finding the right technique. For me, Meisner did the trick. Once I had a solid technique, I was easy to direct and I tended to find a point of view or two or three without any problem because I could build something that would work. :) But if someone is booking a lot, untrained and working on the job more often than not, something isn't broken.

      It's a mix of both technique and personal confidence. Think of it like Picasso. Picasso learned how to paint realistically from a very early age, but he had the courage to paint however he wanted. That's what made me him such a game changer

      Terrible advice to boil down "you not booking gigs" to it being because you're being "too much" of yourself. That's antithetical to everything successful people say. Do you know of a single successful person who said, "I succeeded when I stopped being me, and became more of what others wanted me to be?"

    A lot of people have imposter syndrome. It’s very common for so many professions. I think also thinking there’s this “thing” we need to have in order to feel like we belong.
