I missed the latter half of the Anaheim series, and all but Game 6 of the WCF that year. I went on a trip to Thailand (my mom's home), and went to great lengths to find the scores. I'd be in Pattaya or Bangkok, sitting in my hotel room with CNN World on, waiting for the sports highlights to come on. I found a couple of Internet cafes there, and it'd take me 15 minutes to load the Detroit Free Press. On the flight home, I wore my Stevie Y jersey; I got shout-outs of "Go Wings!" and "Stevie Y!" in the Hong Kong and Vancouver airports. I was so glad to get back to Michigan in time for this game and the Cup Finals.
Hockey on ESPN in the 90's was awesome! This theme always got me pumped to watch hockey no matter who was playing!! Gary Thorne and Bill Clement made NHL on ESPN so special!
I wasn't a big hockey fan growing up until my younger brother started to play as a kid and I started playing the NHL vdieo games like NHL 99. Always watched the playoffs though. Loved the Red Wings. Federov was my guy. I also liked the Avalanche though. The late 90's to early 2000's Red Wings and Avalanche are legendary teams. Loaded with talent.
The NHL is finally returning to ESPN with a new 7-year deal that commences in the 2021-22 season. The deal guarantees them exclusive broadcasting rights of 4-Stanley Cup Finals between 2022 and 2028.
As an Avalanche fan (yeah I'm agreeing with Wings fans here) - You're God Damn Right. The NHL returns to the Four Letter. Now if we could just convince Gary Thorne to do the games again....
@@robbyu.672 Heard that too. Doubt Clement could be pulled back in though. He retired from Flyers broadcasts not long ago. Gosh just keep Pierre away from the four letter though. Hope they reunite Levy and Panger also...great team together.
The previous 2 seasons, when I reflect back now, I often ponder what might have been for the #DetroitRedWings. For myself personally, it would have been more fitting for my summer before my senior year of high school and when I was about to graduate high school in 1996.
Do you have the ‘97 game four Final intro? That one was epic. Plus the ending when they played Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen after they won. The game 7 intro between Det-Col in ‘02 was also top notch.
Thorne is so much better than doc. Idk why ppl loved emrick so much. He’d spend extra time trying to think of big words to use to describe what’s happening instead of just calling the game.
Love my Penguins but why Colorado is my second favorite team. " WE WILL NOT BOW DOWN!" To the Red Wing Juggernaut! Colorado showed Hockeytown they can be beaten.
Gary Thorne was the best hockey's play by play anouncer ever. Regards from Brazil.
Greatest group of announcers
Perhaps they are coming back with new deal with nhl espn
Gary Thorne and Bill Clement. So nostalgic when I hear those 2 names together and the music
I totally agree!!!
This was my favorite NHL Rivalry
Bill Clement doesn't get mentionned enough, he's the best color commentator ever.
I'm not sure what I like more, the opening music or the mullets.
all of it my guy. All of it.
Damn that ESPN was awesome covering the NHL
Ah, 90's COL-DET. When you went to a fight and a hockey game broke out.
💯💯
Bill 'hands of cement' Clement has long been one of my favorite announcers.

hell yeah dude. Great story.
Yzerman and Federov VS Sakic and Forsberg. Doesnt really get any better than that..
No it did not!!!
The level of theater here is amazing.

That outro tho.. they were nailing it back then. PERFECTION

Bring back Gary Thorne to NHL PLEASE
Nhl on espn is back so next season!
@@komirules they announced he is not apart of ESPN’s new announce team
Two months after their infamous brawl in March of 1997. Not only was that intro badass, but so was that outro!
Though it was back in 1997 and I was only 9. I remember being at that game, remember the goals that were scored and how loud that great arena was.
0:39 you cant beat the late 90s for pump up sports network score. This is peak bombastic cheese
Детройт - Колорадо лучшие серии плейоф.
Happy to say that "defense if the cup" by Colorado "DID NOT CONTINUE" They lost 3-1 and we're ELIMINATED!
I so need Gary Thorne and Bill Clement doing playoff hockey again.
You may get your wish next year.
@@komirules you have info on that sir? id love for those guys to get together again.
@@NIVO1972 Sadly they won’t be coming back. While I understand why (Gary is 73) it’s still sad to not see them in any capacity

With the other 3 going to TNT
@@chrisguardiano6143 I know that.
If only you would have known how shitty the announcers they use are ass
Bill Clemente, Gary Thorne, The Wings and National hockey night, doesnt get better than that.
WE RIDE AGAIN YA’LL
HOW GREAT IT IS.!!!

Bettman choosing NBC over ESPN still pisses me off. This intro was awesome.
Today’s your lucky day bro
@@mrmichaelfriedman correcting a nearly 20 year old mistake, and not a moment too soon
MORE!!!, Please.
This is awesome
Everything is perfect in this broadcast except who won
Bring them back.

Nah, my copies for both of those games are from the boxset that came out in 2005, they didn't include the intros.
@@awood40 that was my only bummer about that set too.
I would've liked a few more games included lol. This one here was an obvious pick had they done another batch.
@@awood40 agreed. Fedorov’s 5 goal game, ‘98 games 2 and 4 would’ve been nice as well.
Back when Brian Engblom wasn’t a complete biased, pigeon announcer for Tampa Bay
Brian was very good and unbiased for ESPN and NBC, I just don't know why he's only calling for the Lightning...

Emrick’s voice could just be so damn annoying sometimes too. Throne’s voice gets you so hyped.
Spoiler: elimination starred them in the face
