I own a '24 Denali with the baby duramax as well. Google maps will work in offline mode but with limited features. The best workaround I found is to hotspot your phone and connect it (via wifi) to the infotainment system. This will give you full access to all the google features (cause I also love the big beautiful maps) just like it would with the GM subscription plan.

I elected a 2024 F150 XLT 3.5 Ecoboost over the GMC or Chevy for 2 primary reasons. Ride quality and seat comfort. The GM seats were hard and ride quality noticeably harsher. The Denali was the same. I have low back issues and the F150 was so much more comfortable. My big negative on the XLT was an anemic sound system. Towing with the F150 was a dream, shifting was better during towing. I also noticed the shifting through the low gears when not towing. That bugs me. But ride and seats made the difference.

My experience it totally opposite…I had a 18 Denali and put 100,000 miles on it. The interior especially the seats in my ford are a TON better than my GM I would have to pull over on long trips because my back was hurting. Not only that but there was hard plastic everywhere…and the truck couldn’t stay out of the shop for the life of it. I had the entire front end rebuilt at 80k and I mean everything. Front diff upper and lower control arms, both magnaride shocks because they were blown. Lower oil pan gasket both rear axle seals and the ac stopped working…I LOVED my gmc but I literally couldn’t afford to keep it. And not to mention the very thin paint job…I had chips on the bumper and on every body panel just from driving down the road….and my ford has been flawless. I’ve owned 3 f150,s in the last 2 years and not one time have they been in the shop. And believe it or not the ac in my ford freezes me out on a 100 degree day….and I’m in Arkansas so 100 degrees with 100% humidity. Not hating on the GMC just giving my 2 cents because I’ve put a ton of miles on one. Hope you enjoy yours!

I can respect that, I have been around long enough to know every brand has its own bunch of very disappointed owners who have switched platforms. Truth be told, I was super frustrated with GMC when I switched to Ford but unfortunately my ownership experience with Ford was 100x worse so I just went back to what felt like the lesser evil. If I didn't qualify for the GM family discount as I do, and if RAM wasn't on its first year of its V6 platform, I probably would have gone that route.

Regarding the gear shifter and placing the transmission in park, when my Silverado goes in gear the doors automatically lock (I think you can change this in vehicle settings). They unlock when I place the vehicle in park. If I attempt to get out of the truck while in gear, pulling the door handle once first unlocks the door then you have to pull it again to actually open the door. Not sure if your vehicle does this, but it would be a trigger to help remind you the vehicle isn’t in park. Just a suggestion if this feature is available. I have a 2017.

Nice review, thanks for giving us your take on it. I have the 2023 GMC 1500 AT4 Duramax and I thought the seat could be softer also. After 15k in the seat I can tell you that what it lacks in softness, it makes up with support. I don’t get the backaches I used to get from my other truck that had the softer seat. One thing I wish was different though is the design of the fender well as it limits the size of the tire you can fit under there without trimming. However getting an average of 23 city and 30 mpg on the highway makes up for it. 🍻

So almost immediately in the video you point two areas the F150 is better. Power and towing, without watching the complete video I can already tell this video is biased and the GMC maybe "better" for your particular needs. To me the Ford is a better looking truck, that's just my opinion tho, doesn't it make it better for the next guy. Does the GMC have Pro Power on board? Don't the GMC seats suck....which almost every reviewer has pointed out. How about you make 10 things the Ford is better than the GMC? I'm biased towards the Ford. You don't have chrome inside but you have piano black? Ford has beter visiblity, better mirrors and in the right place. Not stuck in the middle of the door.

    • @GearsGadgets
      @GearsGadgets  5 месяцев назад +12

It isn't biased, it's an opinion based on experiencing both As I said, the Powerboost did have more power BUT the delivery of it was atrocious in terms of transmission. The diesel feels like the more appropriate power in terms of delivery. Fords towing number of 12,700 lbs is absurd and borderline dangerous for people who don't understand how to calculate payload. As mentioned in order to tow 12,700 lbs with 10% tongue weight, I would have to weigh 128lbs or less and have nothing else in the truck to NOT exceed payload capacity. That means 2.5% of American men could take advantage of Ford's towing numbers. I gained payload with the GMC and their towing numbers are FAR more realistic and safe for a half ton pickup. In terms of seats (if you actually watch the video) I agree Ford seats are more plush but also share that I had to add lumbar support to the seat in the Ford because I was getting lower back pain. I have not experienced that in the GMC. I believe the seat conversation is more first impressions of soft = good but I am starting to think that firm = better support for people like me with bad lower backs. Time will tell. Also, I will take piano black ALL day over chrome. Visibility, no distinguishable difference BUT GMC has WAY better camera angles for tight / off-road places than Ford. I do not argue subjective to defend a bias, just sharing my experiences from both platforms and I do believe GMC is nicer overall due to some of the things I mention in this video. Nothing wrong with your Ford but a LOT is right with the GMC.

    • @ril850_1
      @ril850_1 5 месяцев назад +4

@@GearsGadgetsyou can take anyone of the big 3, they will all have there pros and cons. I agree most will not tow those numbers with a half ton and shouldn’t, but when you look at the title video and you start throwing out power and towing numbers. Safe or not the Ford F150 is the benchmark. So how can you name the “10 reasons GMC is better” when the specs don’t back it up. Then it’s all subjective as you stated. The GMC’s have some nice features don’t get me wrong but so does Ford, Ram and Toyota. You just have to look at what’s more important and what you can live without. At the end of the day it looks like you got what’s best for your needs and good for you. You should be happy with your purchase and hopefully you get many years out of your truck. My issue is with the title of the video. If you would’ve said. 10 reason I like the GMC over my previous F150, then okay. However if you have 10 reasons and most are subjective without the specs to back it up.

    • @GearsGadgets
      @GearsGadgets  5 месяцев назад +5

@@ril850_1 First of all, just because something is more on a spec sheet, doesn't mean its better. More power = less mpg, Higher towing rating = BS marketing where the actual marketed number is only achievable by a drastically malnourished man in desperate need of medical attention. I named it 10 reasons why the GMC is better because I personally have owned both and I am sharing my opinions. Spec sheets do NOTHING to contextualize the visceral feeling of an overall product which is far more important to me and the whole reason why I have a RUclips channel, to share the human experience, not read numbers to people. Plenty of other channels out there will read a spec sheet to you, not me. There is SOOO much more to ownership and THAT is the root of everything I share in this video. My honest opinion is the GMC is better, otherwise I would have kept my Ford. I am not RUclipsr who flips vehicles every year for content, one look at my channel and you will see that. You are more than welcome to make whatever video YOU want and title it however you see fit. Otherwise, my video, my opinions, my RUclips channel my rules but I do appreciate the banter.

This is an excellent comparison. I agree with almost everything in your video except for the tailgate. I actually really like it. I was fortunate enough to experience both of the latest trucks for few days- 2024 F150 powerboost and the 2024 Sierra Duramax. I ended up with the GMC 3.0L Duramax. F150 transmission just felt like it is incorrectly tuned, something is just not right there. I have had a couple of f150s in the past and the reliability for me had not been so great. Also agree with you on the seats, i am finding the GMC seats are firm but i dont get tired in them as quick and they dont hurt my back. Its strange because the f150 seats are so comfortable but after a couple of hours of driving i would feel much more tired than in the GMC. One thing i would add is the duramax sounds so much better to me and the MPG is just unreal

I own a 2024 F-150 Lariat and honestly as someone who also had a 21/22 F-150, Ford did a great job on the 2024 F-150s, especially the Lariat and up trim. I myself ordered in a 2024 F-150 Lariat, came in late August and absolutely love the refresh!
HUD--is waaaay better than the GMC. Ford's HUD allows you to do a lot of configurations in settings for what you want to your preference including vertical/tilt adjust, mode and brightness!
I went from a 21 F-150 Lariat to a 2022 F-150 Lariat BAP. Sold it few months back and drove a GMC AT4 for while waiting for my 2024 F-150 Lariat to come in, I can 100x confidently say, I have zero regrets going back to Ford. GMC still hasn't learned regarding issues with their engine and trans, I'm just over it. Ford finally addressed all the glitches and upgraded Blue Cruise software so less sensitive to yell at you as the first 2 versions did! BAP package for 24+ interior is FINALLY all black, I have zero chrome.
B&O--Ford finally fixed the B&O, no more limitations to reduce the bass at high volume anymore. I also noticed it bumps really really good at low-mid volume where putting it at high volume is insane; I will say its ALMOST comparable to Dodge's alpine volume setup. **Edit: 24+ F-150 Lariat and up no longer has 18 speakers, its now 14 which leads me to believe is why it sounds a lot better now.

There’s more chrome on the elevation interior, but it’s still very solid and well put together compared to my lariat. I actually really like the shifter, oddly enough. I’m used to the push button park from driving fire trucks and my wife’s Tahoe, fwiw. I do think the gauge cluster/hud problem is a little unique to gm vehicles, the steering wheel in a comfortable seating position blocks the speedometer for some odd reason. I hated the ladder on the f150 tailgate because the trim piece would break off if you ever have to drag something heavy out of the bed. Worst design ever.

Could you make a video showing how the manual shift mode/gear lockout works on the GMC? On F150's, you can display which gear the truck is in 100% of the time plus manually lockout upper gears. I think the GMC allows you to lockout gears, but unsure if it'll show you which gear it's actually in while it's shifting 1-10.

When you shift the D/L gear lever down to L, the vehicle switches to L gear, and the current gear number is displayed on the dashboard. Gear shifting is done using the paddle shifters on the steering wheel. This feature is especially useful in the following scenarios:
Characteristics and Uses of L Gear
      • L gear (low gear) is utilized when engine braking is needed:
      • Driving downhill: Helps reduce speed and decreases the burden on the brakes.
      • Climbing steep inclines: Provides higher torque for better performance.
      • Driving on slippery roads: Maintains low speed to prevent skidding.
Gear Number Display on the Dashboard
      • When shifting to L gear, the current gear number (e.g., 1, 2) is displayed on the dashboard.
      • For example: When entering L mode, “1” will be shown initially, and as you use the paddle shifters, it will change to “2,” “3,” and so on.
Advantages of Paddle Shifter Gear Shifting
      1. Precise Gear Control: Allows immediate gear changes as needed.
      2. Sporty Driving Experience: Increases driver involvement for a more dynamic drive.
      3. Efficient Use of Engine Braking: Enhances braking efficiency on highways or downhill slopes.
      How to Use
      1. Operating the D/L Gear Lever
      • Shift the gear lever down to activate L mode.
      • The dashboard will display L + current gear number.
      2. Using the Paddle Shifters
      • Left paddle (-): Downshift to a lower gear (e.g., 2 → 1).
      • Right paddle (+): Upshift to a higher gear (e.g., 1 → 2).
      • Gear changes may be restricted at certain speeds (to prevent over-revving).
      Important Notes
      • Do not use L gear at high speeds: This could damage the engine.
      • Paddle shifter restrictions: The system may prevent shifts under certain conditions to protect the engine.
This feature is commonly found in SUVs or large vehicles, designed to handle steep terrain or diverse road conditions. For detailed instructions, refer to your vehicle’s manual.

So I just recreated it. It does go into park if you’re in gear, disconnect your seat belt, then open the door. So in my brain, I put it in park, but it was in reverse and the truck let it go. Certainly my fault BUT also bad design. AT4 is not available with max trailer option, with that option on say a SLE/SLT/Elev you move the 8800 rating up to about 13k. Massive difference though I agree realistic towing for a 1500 stops near the 10k mark for the trailer weight because of GCWR needing to include gear and passengers. If you regularly need to tow more than 10k then move up to a 2500 or 3500 for sure.

You cannot compare 2024 tech to 2021 tech there is a 3 years of difference in improvements that Ford has made too. Next time you want to give advise you need to compare 2024 to 2024 to be valid you never compare an older vehicles tech to a newer one they all make improvements every year. Every review of 1/2 ton trucks Ford has always came out on top of the GM trucks Motortrend, Car and Driver and TFL. to name a few. The 2024 F150 has had allot of improvements did you even go drive a 2024 F150. The 2024 Ford has a better adaptive cruise than your 2021 had, it also has a better stereo in the 2024 too. Blue cruise is now 1.2 not 1.0 like your 2021 had. My friend has a 2024 GMC 1500 Denili Utilmate and his Bose radio sound worst than my Ranger Raptor 10 speaker system and the 2024 F150 also has a better stereo than his GMC bose system too heard both 2024 stereos back to back. Ford has always had better AC than any GMC I have ever been in and the seats in the Ford are way better to me. The 3.5 ecoboost without the hybrid is much smoother with the 10 speed than powerboost and the 2024 powerboost is much smoother they have had 3 years since you bought your truck work on the 10 speeds shift program. The GMC seats just suck way to short on the bottom cushion made for small people. The 2024 F150 has a heads up display now too. I live where we get 110 heat index and the Ford A\C works way better than his GMC he even made a coment about Ford having better AC than his GMC. His GMC has had issues, his nav quit on him, his GPS also quit in it, and the brake pedal is to close to gas pedal for him and his EE shoes. He wished he bought a Ford with all the problems he has had with his GMC. The GMC system will not read microsoft music playlist and GM has quit support for apple and android auto too which make GMC's system a no go for me. The GMC shifter is just stupid would never buy one just because of that it a safety hazard. Ford has also improve their cameras too, your F150 camera's were 3 years behind the new ones.

There is also an emblem on the ford door handle for locking... Saying that little button makes it different when you are doing the same action is a STRETCH.
      9. Super personal preference here.
      8. Blue cruise has been tuned over time, could be your software version nagging you and these things are also compliance related. You are also not comparing equal features here. 7. HUD is available on F150 too.
      6. Never experienced this on my f150, again could be your software version and why you should have compared year to year. (I will said Ford's OTA Update process for these things is BAD. Especially when charging a service fee for them)
      5. Personal preference again, and I question the durability of "soft touch" plastic. Ford changes interior trimming yearly so again... year to year. You touch on seat quality then later say the ford has better seats. This is an area most are unanimous on the GMC has poorly designed seats.

Geez dude, nothing like not making it to the part where I say "I will tell you as of today right now, I undoubtedly think the GMC is the better platform, that is not me just saying that because I am justifying something I purchased. Nothing benefits me steering you one direction or the other other than my reputation" I stand behind everything I said in this video and firmly believe the GMC (In my experience) is a much better truck. Also contextually my Ford was a giant reliability nightmare so of course I am happy to get out but all of the things I say GMC is better at, is still very true.

Dan, I watched your video till the end thank you. Especially when someone is doing a tit for tat on something, but did you ever stop to think that had you bought a Sierra 1500 or Silverado GM product first your and did every mod to it that you did to your Ford whole video series could have been the opposite???
You really aren't comparing apples to apples on truck for truck, think about it.
Not EYERYTHING from any of the BIG 3, 4 OR 5 or has been ever created equally. They go down a production line that humans put together and depending on the day of the week it was produced is the quality you will get, I'm sure you know that right?
And not that this matters at all, but I've had Ford vehicles primarily most of my life and I'm 67 now.
I've had a lot of different makes and models all my life mainly because I can fix everything myself, GM trucks, cars, Chrysler trucks and cars, Ford trucks and cars, Nissan's you name it.
I still have my 97 F350 7.3 I bought new, talk about no bells and whistles...it boasts a whooping 215HP and 425FPT and pulls my 11500lb toy hauler. I'm really not trying to be negative on you, but all I heard was everything you were mentioning was my new GM has this and I love it and can't do without out it and the Ford isn't even close. Your Ford was 2 or 3 years older ? I forget what you said, sorry. But every year every manufacturer tends to step up their game to one up the competition and you should know that as well. I'm sorry you had issues with your Ford but IMO I like the styling a bit better than the rest.
And your last few videos on your Ford were kind of bashing it, and I wasn't surprised that you were gonna dump it. Ram / Cummings next?
Have a good one Dan !
