I'm playing nearly as much golf this winter as I did over the summer. The cold temperatures and "extra moisture" keep the courses delightfully uncrowded; it's just me and the other golf sicko's now!
Hahaha spoken like a true golf addict Mike! Love it 😂
what do you use to track the shots?
@@donniegrant5771 I think it's an app literally called shot tracker. Type best applications for golf shot tracking on yt and there are a few
The addiction is real 😆
@@dirtyjuggalo420 so my wife says Also. 😂
Finally someone who is honest about their golf game and doesn't only show good shots. Respect!
Thanks Nushinn, glad you liked it 👍
Ya that's awesome, we get to see even the bad shots
Nice to see a real and genuine breakdown of your golf game and what to except at your level - or I suppose 'golf development' would be a more appropriate phrase. As someone who has just started playing golf, this video has really given me confidence and reassurance that I am heading in the right direction and what to do to get there. Thank you!
That’s awesome man! Thanks. All the best with your golf 👍⛳️
One of the most honest golf rounds i have seen. just like when i am playing, ups and downs :)
Appreciate you watching!
Hey David Attenborough, that ‘duck’ is a Canada Goose 😂, another enjoyable video thanks.
Haha thanks Ken! Appreciate the education too 😂
Hi Luke, really enjoyed this especially since I’ve played the course myself! I loved the graphic on the right of the screen. Some huge golf channels don’t bother to do this and then when you don’t know the course you can get lost where they are on the hole and how the shots have gone. This little touch made the video very watchable!
Thanks man, glad you liked it!
this is my first time watching, quite enjoyed it! love the background music its at a perfect sound level compared to the voiceover etc. love the little map on the right showing where on the hole your ball is going. nice touch. keep up the good work, love to see relatable golf
Cheers Jamie, appreciate that! Thanks for watching
I can't say how much I love this channel. There's just something about watching similar caliber golfers as myself. 😅
Appreciate that Flakes 👍
Surprisingly enjoyable to watch.
Aha glad you liked it
This was a great video. Loved how you’ve put it all together with the scoring, distances, maps etc. And your golf was good too. You seem like a golfer who doesn’t get sucked in with his EGO - like me. New sub for sure. Hopefully my channel can get to this in the next year. 😅
Cheers Michael 👍
Just discovered your channel, great stuff. I’m a similar standard to you (12.6 world handicap). One thing that has helped me in the winter is always taking one extra club as I often come up short, and never taking three 3 wood off the fairway - always switching to 5 wood, which works out better most of the time. Looking forward to see more videos from you!
Interesting, thanks for the advice Tom 👍
@@UpDownGolf no worries. I’m by no means an expert but it’s certainly helped me! Cheers
Great round Luke, once you are able to not get those blowout holes you will be a force to be reckoned with on the course. Love seeing your improvement over the time. Cheers mate
Cheers Kevin! Appreciate it mate
First time tuning in from New Zealand. The way I look at it is that at 15 handicap you are only expected to make 3 pars during a round. You made 6. Already under par. If you can eliminate the triples and turn those into doubles then that's another 3 shots. Throw in a wee bit more course management, like not going for the green with a long iron over water and just laying up, saving even more. All in all, a great round.
Definitely practice the bump and run. 1/3 air time for total distance = 2/3 distance run out.
Interesting! I'd say I probably make about 5 pars per round on average which likely means I shoot more doubles to make up for that. Better course management is definitely the low hanging fruit for me I think 👍 Thanks
The duck didn’t even flinch man has been through some shit 😮
Not even a little bit
Arnie said " golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated. It satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at the same time rewarding and maddening--it is without doubt the greatest game mankind has ever envented".
True dat
Just discovered your channel, it put me in a really good place as I'm a 22 handicap 73 years old and trying to improve. Thanks for an interesting video.
Thanks Mac, all the best with your golf!
i had to like this video right away when you thinned it and hit it into the Tree LOL. I been there. Respects for having a good attitude and being out there!
Aha! Glad you enjoyed it at least Shawn 😂
nice to see a full round , an honest round love it .. more please luke
Thanks Jonny! Plenty more in the pipeline 👍
Well played and well done for breaking 90. Very good recovery on the back 9. When you use the 3 wood off the deck you need to hit down on it more so you can get it up in the air due to the 3 wood loft is very low
Thanks Sgt Crofty, appreciate it 👍
Great round! I have yet to break 90, but I feel I'm getting close. You inspire me to try 🙂
You've got it Jaap 💪
No winter golf for me … At range today… virtually I was playing at Royal County Down. Most enjoyable. Nice back to back pars. ATB Gerry 👍🏌️♂️
It's getting cold now Gerry! I think you're better off at the range with the heater on anyway 👍 Thanks!
Appreciate the content sir. Nice to see someone actually get around with same handicap as myself. The game that can never be beat.. Cheers..
Cheers Conk 👍 Thanks for watching
Enjoyed the video. More of these please!
Loads more in the pipeline 👍⛳️
Well played..I am also a 15 Hcap and find it so hard to better my scores...keep posting more rounds of golf...keep up the good golfing..
Cheers Lionel, will do!
Consistent good T shots. Played driver particularly well on this. Plenty of pars. Excellent round. It was a pleasure watching. All the best Luke.
Thanks Shablul! Appreciate that 👍
Well played. Great back 9.
Winter golf: Need to recalibrate distances in the colder weather. Plus, Easy to lose balls when hitting into a low sun. So a playing partner/Spotter is needed.
Tomorrow will be my first really cold start of this winter....-3°C forecast for overnight temp..My tee time is 10am, so hoping will be above freezing!!
That 9 iron was for you Jon on 16 😃
Yeah I’ve got two rounds booked for this weekend and the temperature doesn’t look too appealing 🥶
Something that’s worked for me, and might for you, is ditching the 3w/5w and going to a 7w. Much more consistent and while it won’t go as far as a flushed 3w, it was rare for me to hit them well. Now I just go Driver/7w/21 deg 5i/26 deg 6i. Only use the low irons off the tee really.
Interesting PB, cheers 👍
A 15 hdcp probably shouldn't even carry a 4I in the bag. I would take it out and replace it with a 22 degree #4 hybrid. The hybrid might gain you another ten yards and its versatility out of the rough makes it an easier club to hit. Other than that one tee shot he was hitting his 3W just about as far as his driver so he might even consider taking out the driver and replacing it with that 7W and then use the 3W from the tee while the 7W can be his go to fairway club when he needs accuracy on longer shots. If he can find a 20 degree 7W that is adjustable for loft +/- 1 to 2 degrees so much the better. He could then adjust it down 1 degree to give him a 3 degree gap between that club and the 22 degree hybrid. I have the Callaway Epic Heavenwood that is a standard 20 degree and which is adjustable.
Great par run 👍 (You might want to check the rules regarding temporary water in bunkers, though (hole 17) 😊)
Never knew that! Cheers Kristen 👍
We are the same skill level. I was looking for a channel for the average golfer. Well done mate
Thanks man 🤙
Finally. Someone I can relate to. Good work, Luke.
Cheers Richard!
It's tough playing in those conditions. Keep up the good work!
Thanks mate, will do!
nice video, i was once given the advice of play bogey golf to break 90 it sure helped me out in the early days , eventually after practice and understanding where you made your mistakes you will learn to erase them from your round and you’ll soon be breaking 80, then 75 !
keep it going , 👍👍
Thanks twister 👍 that’s the goal for 2023
Recovery on the back 9 was unreal, triple aside (which was essentially a bogey without the drop) going to be close to touching 80 soon in prime conditions. Brave ducks/geese always appreciated the shots they must have seen 😂
Aha thanks Jack!
for a 15 hc, you make so many good choices around the course. most golfers would hit driver on those short par 4s, but the fact that you're hitting 3 woods will make you a great golfer in the future
Thanks Liam!
Nice video Luke. With snow now on the ground here I am stuck hitting balls into a net in the garage, taking videos of my swing trying to engrain better habits without any sort of ball-flight feedback. Good? Not really, but I can only take so many indoor putting drills. Cheers.
I feel your pain Cory! Played this weekend just gone and the greens were like marble, frozen solid. Bring on the warmer weather. Thanks mate!
I am a member at Freshwater Bay GC on the Isle of Wight. It’s a cliff top course which is on a chalk base and drains amazingly.
Played 2 or 3 rounds a week for most of this Winter but our enemy is the wind.
Wow Mark! We’ve barely played here. Water logged everywhere
Maan watching this really makes me feel good about my game 😅
I don’t know what your problem is, but I’m guessing it’s hard to pronounce...
Nice back 9!!! And I live in Florida, so now is the best time to golf!
Nice Chris! Is it cooling down over there now?
@@UpDownGolf It’s been almost 80 degrees all week… nothin but blue skies! But next week it’s supposed to get all the way down to 60’s! lol
Enjoy it while you can mate!
Great to see something else than pros (or scratch players) videos ! Nice one !
Thanks Gregory, appreciate you watching 👍
Really enjoyed the video Luke....well played, Also enjoyed the fact that you are absorbing the advice in the book you are reading re keeping double bogeys off your card....now only dealing in bogeys and triples !!😀 All the best for 2023 👍
😂🤦♂️ I think I need to apply that same advice to the triples haha! Thanks Tony 👍
Enjoyed the round. Thanks for putting that together. Your short game is killing you, mate. It’s way behind your ball-striking ability You don’t look at all comfortable with those shots and your comment that you hadn’t tried a pitch-and-run “in awhile” is telling.
It's funny how one round can look so much different to the others isn't it. My short game is usually my strong point but just wasn't as good on this day. Thanks for watching Mark 👍
7:35 That might be the most lofted putter I've ever seen 😂 Nice back nine mate!
👀👀
Those bumpy greens are crazy!
Time of year I think
Great stuff Luke. Real progress showing here, particularly that glut of pars around the turn. You’re steadily improving 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Getting there Humble! Cheers bud
Shot5 hole8 thats some chip with a putter!
👀👀
So similar to me.. last weekend I went +11 through first four home then got 5 pars.. nearly walked off after 4 but just got to stick to it. Consistency will come, love the videos and keep them coming
Thanks Joe. Yeah same mentality as me probably. I stopped 'worrying' about the golf after 7/8 dodgy holes then you start playing better haha
Got 20cm of snow in Finland at the moment, can't wait for next season to start!
The ground is frozen here to Sonny. No snow yet though
Luke some good shots there. You wouldn`t get away with picking out of the watery bunker without a penalty in our fiddle though.😁
Argh I know, I've been told off for it a few times in the comments now. I know for next time 👍
getting better, good work
Thanks Casey!
Another nice video Luke. Great content and as a new golfer really like the detail about how you are improving your technique and getting your handicap down.
Thanks Jag, glad you're enjoying the videos! 👍
Love these videos! Wish I could play more winter golf, but the snow has just ended my season early up here in New England. Some day I’ll hit more than 1 par per round!
Thanks man! Yeah we’ve stopped here too now to be honest. You’ll smash it next year 👊
Hi Luke, I’m writing from Rome in Italy🇮🇹, one advice I can give you for this new year 2k23 would be to work very much on approaches and putts. If you have a teacher who following you, ask him to make training cards designed for you, so you will definitely improve your game. Have a nice golf and good luck!! ;)
Thanks Tommaso 👍
Love it mate. Really great video , editing and lay out ! Good golf too ! First I’ve watched of yours. Will be watching many more. Buying some stiff shaft titleist irons after Christmas and really really looking forward to using them on the course. I’m unhandicapped at the moment as I usually only play Ambrose but will be playing a lot by myself over the holidays. Looking forward to watching more videos in the future ! Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year mate!
Thanks mate, appreciate that! Hope the golfing with the new irons goes well! Merry Christmas ⛳
Well done Luke nice recovery from a difficult start. Those greens looked a little tricky and difficult to read for pace. I’m currently playing in 33 degree weather and instead of dodging ducks I’m dodging kangaroos. Thanks for the upload once again.
Thanks, over confident start possibly. Sounds awesome Jarrod! Enjoy it mate 😎⛳
Well done Luke. I'm a similar standard to you and would be delighted with that flurry of pars. Just some course management to reduce the triples and you would be close to breaking 80!
It doesn't happen often Daniel! haha. Thanks though mate 👍
You played a great little stretch of holes there from 9 to 13; well done mate!
Thanks mate! Appreciate it
Great video. I’ve been a member of LGC since April and my best round is 88. Lovely course
Thanks Daniel! Yeah it's a very decent course for what they charge 👍
Nice video man! Your game reminds me of my own game! I am a 16 handicap and i can go front nine +1 and back nine + 15 🤣 maybe the day will come at some point that we can play all 18 holes with confidence
🤞🤞 Maybe Eerik! Thanks for watching 👍
I’m in Poland. Thanks to a very mild winter so far I am out on the course tomorrow 🎉
Awesome that Ian 👍
This is awesome! I’m surprised you’re able to hit your 56 degree 85 yards!
Thanks dude 👍
I'm still playing. If it's not raining and windy and over 35 degrees I'm going to play. Great job breaking 90. Looks like we both have issues struggling with the fairway woods and an occasional pulled left shot.
Good for you AC 👍 oh yeah, some days it’s plays ball. Some days it doesn’t 😂
Just found your channel. Very relatable. New sub⛳️🏌️♂️
Thanks man, welcome!
Nice one Luke. Some real solid golf in there. Keep trying to make sure you get your putts up to the hole, some of those putts you took looked on line and could have went in. Thumbs up !
Solid advice Paul, I can be bad for that. Cheers mate 👍
Really enjoyed the video. I am about a 15 HC too and trying to improve... I really want to break 80 this next year. I'm just going to keep at it. Good luck too!
Thanks John 👍 Same goal for me too. Good luck!
First Relate golf content to my handicap. Nice Content!
Thanks man!
Good round Luke. Wike looked decent will have to give it ago. Managed to get out a couple of times, played boothferry near howden. Not bad for the time of year andno restrictions.
Cheers Craig. Yeah the 'no restrictions' can be hard to find sometimes this time of year. Wike a good course all year round I've found. At it's best in the summer though 👍
Well played, 5 pars in a row is wicked. You mention the wintery conditions, but you also dress like I would dress in June playing golf in Berlin 🙂. I usually don't get out on the course if it's below 12 degrees (maybe 10 but then with full sun). I'm currently in a warmer climate in Aotearoa New Zealand, so should be all warmed up golf-wise when returning to Europe in the beginning of spring.
Haha true, I guess each person's definition of wintery conditions varies! Sounds like it's nice where you are mate!
@@UpDownGolf At least you've got regular greens (summer greens, although they looked like wet sponge cake) and no snow.
These videos are so enjoyable. Keep ‘em coming!!
I’ve got some crackers in the pipeline!
@@UpDownGolf Lovely!!!
Unreal back 9 mate 👍
Thanks man!
Great run of pars! Tee shots with driver were really good too. I'm a similar ability myself but not that consistent off the tee yet
Don't be fooled Mark haha, this was just a good driver day. I have those days where I'm constantly playing out the trees too 😂
Well done mate. Great recovery from your front 9.
Thanks man!
Great video. 1st one I have watched. I am no golf coach but to me, it looked like you hit the ball very straight. I don't know what your preshot routine is, but watch the video and see where you are lined up before the shot and where your chest points in your finish. It seemed to be exactly where you hit it. It might be a simple fix by working on alignment and aim using a close target to set yourself. Good luck lowering your score and well done!
Thanks Tommy 👍
@@UpDownGolf You are welcome. I started to use the close target to align myself for that reason. Now when I stand over the ball, it looks like I am aligned way right, but really not. It could eliminate some of the shots/chips from the side and make them fairway shots or putts instead.
Great improvement with your tee shots and putter. Well done!!!
Thanks Ragnar!
I tried the “waggle” with fairway woods / hybrids off the deck -after seeing some videos on YT - massive improvement of consistency and distance.
Interesting 🤔 thanks man
My first time watching, and just subscribed. Suggestion, since it appears there’s a variety of golfers playing, please include who is playing in the title or description. I definitely don’t want to miss any by Luke if they’re all this cool. Btw, I am looking forward to checking out the other players as well. Thanks, 20 handicap golf-nut.
Thanks man! Most of the videos are me to be honest 👍 I try to get the others involved where I can
Great round. That front 9 would have done me in and probably really hindered my back 9. Great job in regaining some confidence with those back to back pars. Need to try and take some of that on
Thanks Jayy! I always try to tell myself I'm not allowed to be mad if I'm playing golf haha (doesn't always work!)
For straight forward bump n run shots try reducing the loft even more; a 7 or 8 is better imho, less loft = less spin = less dispersion. It should be played almost like a putt 👍
For shots from the fringe of the green I can see that would work well
nice format for videos... keep it up!
Thanks Vincente!, Will do 👍
Another good round sir 👏
Why thank you sir!
Nice round. Very good video work. May I suggest using a 5 wood rather than a 3 wood? It has more loft and is easier to get up into the air.
Thanks Randy! It varies week to week. If you watch my latest video, the 3 wood is the best club in the bag 😂
Nice video good content. When putting in the winter on damp greens sometimes you might stroke it a little harder. Because the damp green will slow the roll significantly, especially uphill
Yeah struggled getting a feel for the pace on this day a little
That's the best I've seen you play so far. And the big fellas not with ya (Fence). Might be a clue or at the very least not have a butt blocking the view. Food for thought 🤔 😋
Haha Fents usually doesn't affect my golf, just the filming process 🙈😂
Excellent video Luke
Thanks Chris!
I'm sitting here rooting so hard for these birdie and par looks you'd think I have money on this guy. Love the video :)
My guy 👊
I live in Pennsylvania US pretty much unless you have a membership most courses are closed this time of the year.
My only hole in one was made with a stinger Shot That only went about 50' in the air for a 172 yds it hit the green bounced once, rolled and disappeared given it was a stinger I thought it was over the green. Never checked the hole first, given the nature of the shot. Searched behind the green. Found a similar ball but not my exact ball. So my playing mates and I agreed to just play that ball. When my playing mate went to pull the pin he found my ball sitting at the bottom of the cup. It was my first and only hole in one.
Aha brilliant story that Robert!
Beautiful course!
It has its days
Great edit mate, loved the video. I'm also from Yorkshire but never been to Wike Ridge. Keep up the great vids!
Thanks Jonny, appreciate it 👍
@@UpDownGolf your long game, especially off the tee is excellent. Bit of practise and I reckon you can get to single figures!
Thanks! Hoping to get down to that this year 🤞
@@UpDownGolf definitely! Will be good to watch
Loving the videos Luke! I reckon your spikeless shoes may be impacting you. Other than that I think you're a fab golfer and your content is a fresh of breath air. Looking forward to be seeing more content in the new year.
Thanks Hermit, really appreciate that mate!
great game, analysis, but you were plagued by bad greens for sure! keep it up
Thanks man! Yeah the greens weren’t great at all
Well done mate, good round in tough conditions.
Thanks Thomo!
I really like your editing and composition in the video. You should go far in presenting such good content. The biggest difference I see in the hole by hole vlog is the commentary done after the fact versus being live on course. However, talking and playing is not an easy thing to do! Well done. I'll subscribe and look forward to more great vids.
And then... One, I hit the green and, two... I didn't kill anyone! Love your priorities! LOL
Thanks Robert, appreciate that! Aha I’m there to play golf after all 😉
great video. At around the same level handicap (17) so it's a good look at someone else's game. Your driver off the Tee is quite good mate.
Thanks Mike. It has its days where it just likes to put me in the trees all round too
That was a cracking back 9!
Cheers Danehawk!
@ 8:55 But you did keep Double Bogies off your card, you had 2 Triples, 5 Bogies & 2 Pars !🤣🤣👍👍
😅😅 you’re not wrong!
Really good content once again. Very enjoyable viewing.
Thanks Bilal, glad you liked it!
Thank you for sharing your game! Loving the channel. I've noticed though that you don't finish your golf shots (like me). Have you noticed you don't finish your swing?
Thanks man 👍 I have noticed that yeah, not sure why I do that tbh. Have you fixed it?
We are about the same standard, but can i give you some advice. Both our swing speeds don't make a 3 wood a realable option. Either get a 5 wood, or my favourite a 7 wood. I can on average get about 190 yards and more importantly in play and in the air. Enjoyed the video and the book is dead right.
Cheers Peter 👍
I was playing quite a bit up until this week when the weather turned much colder (Philadelphia region). Mid 40's F is my temperature threshold for golf. I enjoyed watching a player with a similar handicap to my own work around the course. The driving and approach shots were very similar to my game. The major difference was in chipping and putting. Perhaps it was the conditions ....but my short game is much better (aside from the early back 9 par run). I'm a 13 hdcp....maybe those 2 strokes of difference in hdcp are where short game differences matter? In any event....I enjoyed the video....thanks for posting!
Hey Charles, I'd say my short game is usually better than on this day if you watch some of my other course vlogs. Thanks for watching! 👍
There’s snow on the ground here in Connecticut so I’m on simulators for now
Hoping to go to Florida soon
Bet it's nice there at the moment 👍
15 Love!
