    😊good . I have never seen this formula even though I have been teaching a Level chemistry for 20 years. I think Indian exams ask about no of isomers . British syllabus asks only till hexane.

    I think mam 2n-1 is also helpful where n is the total no isomers in previous alkane
    Only we have to remember no of isomers for butane

    For alkenes the formula is different for even and odd numbers of carbon
    For even -- 2^n-2+1
    For odd--2^n-2

    no.of chain isomers for C4H10 is 2 susbstitute the 2as n value in (2n-1) formula we get 3 i.e the isomers of C5H12 and substitute the 3 as n value we get 5 i.e for C6H14 😉
