Excellent presentation, with clear concepts. I'm a 77-year old, retired electrical engineer. Had studied organic chemistry in my inter-science(today's 12th std). Though teachers in my college were good, the way you are explaining is superb. I really envy the milleniums. With teachers like you they need not go to any coaching classes.
List of priority - COOH (carboxylic acids) - CHO (aldehydes) - (ketones) - OH (alcohols) - yne (triple bond) - ene (double bond) - Cl, Br, (halogen group) - CH3- C2H5 (methyl, ethyl) So the answer should be 3,4-dibromopentanal because the functional group is an aldehyde and not a ketone
This is best explanation I could find on RUclips. Literally our school teachers just couldn't explain this in simple language. And moreover they didn't even bother tell us about the rules, priorities, etc. I think you deserve more sir. Love you from India.
My school teachers are even worse. They basically decided that we understood their lecture so they gave out a few half assed example out of the book to make us believe we got it. But we never did. It was like they described a memo instead of teaching us how it came to be
This video is exactly what I've been looking for: Someone taking it gradually step by step, example by example while adding more rules along with examples. This is the best way to explain it
This is such a cool idea! I'm a chemistry prof in the US working on a similar approach on my channel. I like breaking down the concepts by videos, and giving an introduction to a topic (e.g., SN1 reactions) in 5 min or less!
Guys, this thing is kinda confused, let, watch over it carefully, " I think the numbering we should used is the backward one, I mean the one that starts from the (aldehyde), because it's the functional group that has the smallest number which is 1, and the largest, if we're to look at it in a forward numbering it is 5, while bromine in backward numbering are, 3,4. If we're to look at it in a forward numbering it's 2,3. So we'll rather use the backward numbering which starts from the (aldehyde) then our bromine numbering will be 3,4 respectively, let check the example our tutor did for (4-chloropentanoic acid) for better understanding. Thanks 👍
i am a professor of Organic Chemistry PhD course at OXFORD UNIVERSITY and from the following content, all is correct except he forgot to mention that naming rules should also be applied in giving the Nomenclature of the organic compounds.
