    I've made this mistake so I wanted to clarify for those looking--adding an ethyl group tends to change the chain. For instance hexane. Adding an ethyl group to the a 3-carbon chain just creates a 4-carbon chain with two methyl groups. It looks different at first glance, but you always want to make sure to recount the longest chain. That being said, for heptane there are nine structural isomers.

    in 4:16 should it be named 2,2-dimethylpropane?

      He did say "2,2-dimethylpropane" but miswrote the name as ~pentane. Good catch though. I was thinking the same thing.

    At 4:17 you wrote 2,2-dimethylpentane. Why is it pentane and not propane? You marked 3 carbons on your parent chain

      Minor error...you are correct. 2,2-dimethylpropane would be the correct name

    At 5.32 can we put one group on the top and the other group at the bottom ? rather than two groups on the top ?

    you are missing 3-ethylpentane, the 9th isomer of heptane

    7:20 For heptane isnt there the possibility of forming 3- ethylpeptane? Having a five carbon chain with ethyl on the third carbon

    Heptane has 9 isomers , i think you missed 3 carbon with 2 carbons having 2 carbon branch each , correct me if I'm wrong

      I think this formula it’s work (2^n-4 +1)n:means the number of carbon

      @@amitojsinghgrover2494idk about the name, but that chain isn't shown in the video and it should be possible as a functional isomer
      also it would be 3-ethylpentane because you always choose the longest chain and in this case it's 5

    The third constitutional isomer of C5H12 is 2,2-dimethyl propane,not 2,2- dimethyl pentane as you have illustrated......nice presentation though
