Bel enregistrement. Disque rare. Merci pour le partage.
I agree with berlinzerberus to a certain extent. Shelley's style is not very exciting. However, I am very glad that Shelley is performing this type of music. Not many others are willing to do it. Most concert pianists perform the more popular composers because that is where the money is and it is more acceptable to the classical music establishment.
+Brian Knapp I completely disagree with berlinzerberus. Shelley is a polished pianist and I like it. Precise, to the point, no nonsense, no melodrama, no irritating rubati. In that aspect he is not far removed from the likes of Ashkenazy, Gavrilov, Pollini and Pogo in his younger days.
If Howard Shelley's emphasis tends towards polish and clarity that's fine with me. With unheard works I love those qualities because I can better judge the composition. I believe at that time fluidity of tone with clarity and polish were prized qualities of pianists.
A world that doesn't produce much in the way of joy or genius any more, but is well-equipped with witch and heresy hunters. What's that tell us? Nice music, beautifully played.
What a rare performance, thank you very much for posting! But allow me to say a word about Howard Shelley. He has spezialised in all the piano concertos of the vrtuoso era [19th century] like those of Hummel, Xaver Scharwenka, Rubinstein, Johann Baptist Cramer etc., we know him from the Cramer-Bülow Etudes. In my humble opinion Shelley tends to perform them all in the same manner, polished, in a conversational tone, same touch, same sound, in a word: boring.

This performance is "tastefully" exciting.
Thanks so much for this posting. I have ran through some of Cramer's smaller works but I am really enjoying this. Thanks!
excellent recording/engineering
Howard Shelley being criticized by PC Keyboard heroes. How silly can it get?

My favorite part : 15:36 to 17:11 .
My favorite : 7:00 to 7:30
The problem is that this isn't a fortepiano even if London Mozart Players are ancient music this is making it very anachronistic.
