    Infamous got me hooked when you finally become a recognized hero. When people start recognizing Cole when you grind overhead, cheer or cower if you're a dirty villain, etc. You really feel the effects of your choices and actions, and honestly it makes me feel so bad to be the bad guy. The world is so harsh, so being powerful enough to be able to improve things for everyone just a little feels great to me. Then again, I've always been that guy who prefers to play the Paladin in D&D games, a real goodie two-shoes.

      I always want to play an evil character at the start of games. But my charactera always turns good by the end. Not always so fun to play a one sided totally evil character. For example in Fallout New Vegas i wanted to do a bad guy character siding with the legion. But as I played i realised that from a certain point of view Ceasars Legion are the good guys, so I played the character more as guy who truly thinks he is doing the right thing, the ends justify the means type of deal.

      I still think this was the best implementation of a moral system. You felt the moral progression through your powers as well as thru how the civilians/citizens react to u. I also liked being able to permanently clear zones, like you're a superhero that's actually cleaning up a city instead of just continually beating down respawning enemies

The hulk game didn't have the ability to change transformations or turn into other people of course, but the main combat mechanics, airdashing, movement, ability to pick up and throw objects, elbow drop tanks, the upgrade system, the critical mass bar that let you perform super attacks that worked as screen nukes, etc, all came from that hulk game. The games title is Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.

      Honestly, I agree with your take besides the powers & Delsin. I feel like they tried to stretch the powers so much with the 3/4 sets that each of them don’t really feel very fleshed out as a result. Not one of those powers feels as good as the lightning does by the end of Infamous 1/2, not even smoke; I feel like if you’re expanding the power sets that much for a sequel to those games, they should have felt just as fleshed out as that singular lightning power set did. Delsin also was just a flatline for me, I only really cared about his connection with his brother. His personality by itself was so annoying & didn’t really make sense throughout the story, constantly flip-flopping his core ideals, especially when you go down the evil path. He never has the dramatic umph that Cole did, even when he was barely trying. But the world itself, the side missions, the enemy faction, the combat arenas & all the extra stuff really did pop, so I do hope the developers try out a sequel one day; there’s so much more to explore with this world that it’d be a shame if Second Son was the final chapter.

Playing games like Fallout or more recently, Outer Worlds, I find myself sitting there pondering every single decision, hoping I didn't unintentionally mess up one of my favorite characters and get them killed or hate me.
    With this "black and white" style, I have an excuse to play the game again, get completely different powers, and get told a different story, and choosing between them is easy and quick.

    both infamous and infamous 2 were childhood defining games for me. So much so I even 100%'d 2nd son just because of my love for the previous games. Not only was this game the best superhero/villian game ever, but it somehow did over-the-shoulder shooting better than any other game ever has.
    edit: Bruh you never felt the big power up from the 2nd game because you didnt play evil, which i felt was a part of the game. You would sacrifice raw power for more control of fights as good, but as evil youd just kill shit. Big show of this is when you detonate the 2nd ray sphere (evil choice) and it blocks out every part of the karma bar other than infamous, and you get black lightining.

I didn't get to play the game until I played a demo at a PS3 kiosk in a Best Buy. I played that for a solid 15 minutes just traversing the city and shooting any enemy. That made me want to get a PS3. Sadly, I didn't get to play the full game until 2014 when I finally got my PS3. Infamous 1 and 2 were among the first few games I bought. I love them then, and I still love them now. Second son felt like a world post-Cole i mean after the shit with the beast it was obvious that conduits would end up becoming feared and the people would want then to be controlled by some higher power. Sure Cole left an impact but people like Augustine are the types that want to play the “hero” telling her fellow conduits that its for your own good and manipulating the public by lying to them even if it means taking away their freedom and confusing a home for the super elite with a torture hole of a prison i could see the whole punk vibe fitting with the games rebel theme.

    This was an enjoyable video. I never played any of the sequals so it was nice to finally get to see them in action.
    I do feel a bit weird about certain criticisms you made though.
    There were several times where you complained that the sequals rehashed certain aspects of the original while not doing that for the original and sometimes even praising those mechanics and aspects of the game.
    A few examples would be that you never complained about the melee combat in the first game, while always complaining about how it was just button mashing in the sequals.
    And then praising how fun and I quote "addicting" it was to collect blast shards in the first game, while in Second Son you criticized them for recycling that mechanic. Just seems a bit contradictory to me.
    Your critisisms about character design I can't argue with since that's more of a personal preference things than anything!

    Infamous 1 and 2 I've played countless times. The citizens eventually recognize you as a hero or Villain and that was always interesting. Having more conduits was cool especially since the use of powers have always been on the creative side. Napalm and Cryokinesis in 2 was really cool. I think they messed this up in Second son because all the powers are just powers and now you got people turning into particles. Imagine if Cole did that.
    The power scaling over the series is wack as well. Cole needed a device built from shards of the blastcore to transfer the powers but Delsen just has to hold hands for a little bit. Cole is also still the strongest person in the series on par with the beast.
    Infamous till this day remains one of my favorite games. The lore was well thought out in the first 2. the powers were fun. i enjoyed 2's rocket spam because hitting rockets back just always felt cathartic. I'd like a remaster and fix of 1 and 2 as boring and often stuff like that gets said often. I'm glad they dropped it after 2nd son though. the unverses lore is great but Delsen seemed boring and geared to a different crowd compared to Cole, who had an interesting personality that fit both good and bad. Infamous always rivaled the spiderman games.
    I may also just have a thing for darker superheroes than the standard hero tale.

    • @charlieflight6124
      @charlieflight6124 2 года назад +1

      Infamous 1 is the beginning launch for conduits, and Cole was patient zero alongside the beast. He didn't have much place to become more advanced with his powers since there was like, several pandemics at the time and multiple problematic gangs, so all he had were spur of the moment improvements.
      Second son takes place 7 years after infamous 2. At a time of peace and prosperity where the higher authorities have more time to study conduits and for current day conduits to develop their powers.
      it only makes sense that the powers would evolve to became more powerful later on.
      Also, Delsin was more designed for balanced combat instead of pure shooter gameplay. With abilities that allowed you to get up close to enemies (Especially video). And it shows in the opening cutscene, Delsin's first ability was a gap closer dash unlike Cole which was the shockwave.

      @AceFalken 2 года назад

      I stated that above how I don't like it since Cole whose one of the strongest known beings had to use a device and Delsin just has that ability. Second son was pretty bad lore wise since it ret-conned or added new mysteries such as Delsin and the ones he got his abilities from formed their abilities through stress and not RFI or both. we don't know so its a mystery now. In 1&2 it was just RFE. (and DARPA experiment but we know nothing of that so it could be a form of either or both). Or that when the RFI activate in 2 that every conduit died.
      This kinda ruins the big choice of 2 which was a world of a few conduits or a world of many humans. Even weighing Zeke who was your best friend through the series.
      We can't say we know that he can make them stronger. First light follows Abigail about 2 years prior to Second son and she clearly has better power of neon than Delsin. So either its a time of developing skill or following the old rule of gaining another prime conduits ability only gives you a fraction like in 2.

    • @charlieflight6124
      @charlieflight6124 2 года назад

      @@AceFalken maybe the ending of 2 wasn't that all the conduits died. Maybe it was just the ones in proximity of Cole.
      Since the ray sphere needed a courier, it's possible that there may have been more than one and the people who made it have created multiple. Or at least duplicated the one cole had.
      There is still a lot left in the air about delsin. Maybe infamous second son 2 is gonna make light on some of them if they make one. Maybe a post game homage or something like that.

    I liked the smoke powers in Second Son a lot actually, I thought they were the second coolest super power to get outside of Danny Phantom style ghost powers. That being said, I think the whole "activist punk looking to make a difference" thing is very played out, and when I see it IRL these days I see a lot more harm than good done and very little rational thought behind the people who flock to those sorts of causes. It was admirable back in the day because it took some thought and willpower, now it's just "well social media says its the right thing, might as well jump on the bandwagon!"
    The series on the whole left a good taste to me, and I hope that when game companies and writing rooms on the whole stop simping for brownie points with twitter with the pet cause of the given year the series can make a triumphant return. Hell, when VR makes its next evolution, the dream game for me would be some kind of MMO fusion between DC Universe Online and Infamous, even with a fully fleshed out karma system that can see you fall to the dark side, be redeemed as a hero, be an anti-hero, and every option in between whenever you can commit the time to changing over your karma.

    I think my favorite implementation of the morality system was in second son
    Not in the specific story part but the gameplay and visual aspects.
    If you have neon, good gives you a sword melee I believe, and evil gives you a claw. Video gives you angel and demon wings
    You play differently too, having to aim your ranged attacks in different spots for different moralities, the head for lethal kills, and the leg for incapacitations. Giving you good and evil respectively. Your skills and what skills you can unlock will change depending on your morality as well
    It makes you really want to try and see what things will change gameplay wise when you play. I remember seeing the neon evil claw in the skill menu when I was being good on my first play through and being like “damn, should I have actually went good?”
    I love when a game does that naturally rather than telling you that you should second guess yourself

Pistol lightning, sniper lightning, grenade lightning, etc. Prototype powers were just way more fun to fight with and run around with! I also didn't like the very binary moral choices in Infamous either. Maybe this was unintentional, but in Prototype, you became so powerful that it was impossible not to kill civilians accidentally, which really tracked with how Mercer was becoming a monster. A rare example of ludo-narrative harmony.

    Despite "suffering" from goody-two-shoes attitude in karma games as well, when I tried the evil path and eventually got that 2nd bomb upgrade that turns your lightning black/red, it was a thrill.

    This game was my childhood every time I play it or see someone playing it I just imagine my 5th grade self playing it in my room with the radio on just having a blast

    Watching this review i felt like you were looking for a third person shooter with super power paint on it. Also not doing the evil routes leaves you without, cool alternatives to some powers.
