    Thank you for this beautifully informative and practical video. I have a very strong and chronic anterior pelvic tilt, and this is the first time I've had anyone speak to it in such a succinct and clear way. I would love to see both more stretches for correcting this issue as well as a yoga flow video specifically for those of us trying to re-balance our pelvic bowls. Thank you, again!

      @@ashtangayogagirl4359 I'd also find it really helpful to have a handful of moves that you have found to be successful for strengthening abs and glutes while stretching back and hip flexors. something that could be mixed and matched depending on time availability throughout the day.

    I wld be looking forward so much to ur yoga flow for anterior tilt yogis. I have been having so much backache, frozen back daily, and pinched nerve since July 2022. Started learning yoga but didn't feel it did my lower back much goodness with all e back bends n lumbar tilt. Now I know why bcos you have explained it so well here. I was corrected for my forward bending w my rounded back which is incorrect (supposed to be bent at the lumbar ),but I find strangely so so much relieve in that rounded back forward bending pose. Now all is explained here. Thank u. It certainly help to clarify tt some yoga poses is not for everyone

      Did you do the little check with the stickers Sarah? A tilt of 7 degrees or more is usually considered dysfunctional by physical therapists! Ask your physio to check for you if you're not sure

      Hi Natalia - sorry to hear about the pinched nerve!! Yes I've heard of people having anterior pelvic tilt as a result of a pinched nerve because the muscles in your lower back all tense up to try and protect your precious spinal cord, which is great! But it means you get a super tight lower back and a pelvic tilt. I will definitely share a video soon - keep your eyes peeled :D

    This is a great video! Thank you! You got any tips on how to treat this condition in the daily situations? What should one pay attention to when standing? (Should I actively tilt the pelvis back to natural position during the day?) or when sitting? Bending? Thanks!

  • @fionaoon4069

    I have been trying to figure out why my back is always rounded in a lot of yoga postures. And all answers seem to point to tight hips or tight hamstrings. But then I noticed if I practised with an anterior pelvic tilt it helped to flatten out my back especially in downward dog/forward folds etc. So I'm a bit confused if you are supposed to practise yoga with an anterior tilt...? Or keep our pelvis neutral? As it doesn't seem possible to do a lot of the postures without a more anterior tilt (for me). Hope you can help because I don't want to be continuously trying to practise with an anterior tilt and then wind up having to correct it. Thanks!!

    • @ashtangayogagirl4359
      @ashtangayogagirl4359  4 года назад +1

      Hi Fiona, that's SUCH a good question. So in this video, I'm referring to people who have a chronic anterior pelvic tilt. That means they are stuck in that position and find it difficult to go into a posterior pelvic tilt. Most people do not have this problem, so they would do downward dog with a fairly neutral pelvis position. Some people have the opposite problem - a posterior pelvic tilt - so to get into a neutral position they would need to strongly anterior tilt.
      Yes, anteriorly tilting your pelvis will flatten out your back, especially if you have a chronically posterior pelvic tilt. It will also stretch your hamstrings more effectively.
      But if you practise ALL forward folds in this way then you might end up overdoing it and end up with the condition I describe in this video. It will cause your back muscles to become too tight and your ab muscles to switch off. So it's a balance and really helps to have someone observe your practice to give you feedback on those subtle details
