My dad is letting me drive his 98 f150 until I get my own rig The door jambs are filthy ( why I am at this video 😂 ) but it has 268,000 miles and runs great
Hahaha I was a bit guilty of using a brush to clean my door jambs despite of it being not that dirty. You will always be one of the detailers that I look up to. Simple and realistic. Thank you for all your videos sir. Salute to you!
Great channel 👍 Oscar. I always forget the door jambs when I clean my car. With 2 young kids, we always have baby wipes stashed somewhere in the car and that's what I use with very good result. I literally use it on all the plastic and vinyl panels including the dashboard. No residue and unwanted chemical smells. It works!
I appreciate your videos because they're pragmatic and in the end get outstanding results without the fancy tools or products that some, we all know who, detailers tell us we need. 🙄 Injecting relatable humor and sarcasm into your videos is appreciated. 😉
Yea the brush thing is a bit excessive. The place I learned from we would use a final detail spray and wipe. But of course like you said if its extremely dirty then yes will need agitation. This is great advice. Working effectively is key.
Good video. Some people way over-think this aspect of cleaning and think there has to be a 3-step process to everything. An APC is fine, or I use Chemical Guys Waterless Car Wash to simply spray and wipe away.
So true. This is the exact method I use because let's be honest... Which customer is going to go look at the smallest crack or crevice in their door jambs and see if it's clean or even care about it as long as you do great everywhere else on all the visible things.
well spoken Oscar; I love to watch all the videos out there about methods and tools - but in the end I'm looking to be much more efficient and practical - not to mention faster (by cutting out supposed lengthy methods that deem you as "professional") thanks Oscar . keep up the good work with your straight-forward approach
I personally did my door jams with a toothbrush and a cloth today, but my door jams were really bad! I needed that scrubbing to get the dirt loosened up. Seriously they were 🤮 I never realised I was supposed to clean them, I always thought of them as exterior, but never clean them on the exterior either 😹🙈 They definitely weren’t cleaned when I’ve had my car cleaned before, at least not all the way around, just the base on the car. I just detail cleaned my interior because I’ve been binge watching car cleaning videos thinking my car was really bad (spoiled it really wasn’t at all). And tbh I don’t know what I’ve been paying for when I get my car cleaned because there were white marks on the plastic parts I thought were stains (sunscreen I was struggling to get off), I scrubbed with a toothbrush today and they came out straight away 😂🧐 Thanks for the motivation, and for leaving me guilt free because my car is now clean, and I’ve realised it was actually pretty clean, especially considering I have two dogs that go in my car on a regular basis too.
So for a personal setup I will clean the door jamb with super clean diluted 5 to 1 & Microfiber, then wax it with Ethos Pro Wax. That way next time I clean it I will just hit it with a Meguiar's Quik Wax, or Ultimate Waterless Wash & Wax.
Brother your way of doing it I've been doing it like that since ive been detailing for like 2years now. A lot of people think we are hacks when we do things like that. It works just as well. Like you said if its caked on do the agitation process with it.
Within the past 3 months, my clients had door jambs that have been through World War III and back. Often times, I'll just employ the use of a generic hose with multiple spraying patterns so I can prevent any water from splattering into the interior. The hose is strong enough to remove any stubborn dirt and debris, yet the pressure is soft enough so as not to introduce excessive water, thereby inadvertently spraying the interior.
Great advice man and agree you shouldn't have to bust out the brushes every time. A question for you ! I plan on to routinely wash the car using a drive-through car wash and right now it will be around 3 minor car washes and 1 Extreme (wax.)per month I want to follow it up with cleaning door jams myself and spot cleaning body as well as a couple of interior cleans. What areas should I look out for and or add to my spot cleans that a car wash doesn't get at? Any of the "trolls" mention you dropping the brush on ground and re using it hahah
This may be sufficient for a maintenance clean on a well maintained vehicle but on my personal car there is always some kind of grease or crud in the jambs and the seals especially around the bottom of the door. The gaskets and seals around the outside of my windows collect an incredible amount of dirt and I clean them semi-annually. But yeah, doing more work than is necessary or just to feel like a detailer lol is silly and inefficient.
As shown in your video, people who get their cars washed once a month or more, often have door jambs that are fairly clean. However, many, many of us have dirty vehicles, the kind with old, dried, concrete-type crud in our door jambs, often competing for space with our collection of leaves, acorns, pine straw, pollen and other detritus. What do you suggest for quickly cleaning that stuff out, other than pressure washing or steam cleaning? Inquiring minds with dirty jambs really want to know. And, for those whose black plastic trim has faded or become dull, how does a professional detailer revitalize that plastic to bring it up to a “new car” condition? Thanks for the video and your tips.
ahah- good one! If you dont' have access to a garden hose, I'd use a water bottle and spray it to loosen up the dirt. Then spray APC and let it dwell. Then agitate or wipe down with a towel.
I usually just Pressure wash them makes Time More easy than just give it a Final wipe and I'm Done unless the door jam has soo Much grease than yea I do Chemicals and scrubbing 👍
I do almost the exact same thing as you. My car is cleaned regularly, and so the door jambs are basically just a little dusty. So I spray on some Uber Rinseless Wash (instead of APC) and then wipe down with a towel.. If the little wiring harness accordion connector needs it, I might get out a brush.
One question I have is wouldn't you at least want to rinse the residue from the APC? Leaving that would just attract more dust and grime in the future I would think.
The door jams on my last vehicle were horrible. The car was driven *many* miles by myself and my husband for work, so there was black sticky road grime and grease. It was very hard to clean. I don’t actually think I got them 100% clean before I traded in the car for the one I have now.
lol this was funny. You are right though. A lot of the extra brush stuff is unnecessary when it is not even that dirty. ONR is perfect for the quick wipe.
hey could you please make a video of some door jambs that have never been cleaned before and is exstremly dirty like on a van especely white ones with alot of asphalt, tar and tectyl and show how you would clean that in the most efficient way?
So I take it as, only do the hose methoid if you know you'll ruin your rags. I used to use paper towels and all purpose on very bad door jambs... But then again, it was my car and I was 15. But, that took forever!
I’m on the fence about this video, because as others have stated for maintenance washes this is perfect. But this method won’t do anything to gunky jams.
If you could choose between spending 2 hours doing something or 8 hours doing something, and get the exact same results, which would you choose? If you chose 8 hours, you're not ready to be a business owner. Time is money and business dictates efficiency every time.
I am detailing my dads derelict ford escort 1995 and omg are the door James full of mould the only way round. It is to agitate around the hard to get areas otherwise I will just spray all purpose onto the door jam and just wipe down , SAVE TIME PEOPLE TIME IS MONEY!
I just wipe my jambs with the same rag I use to dry my wheels when drying the car off. Sometimes will spray some detailer spray. I couldn’t imagine having 30 minutes to waste on a door jamb.
