this was the first game I remember playing. I was 4 years old. had to stand on a milk crate and played it at the local Ben Franklin craft store.
Very cool. I never really played them the first time around, I started playing games when I was older, around the time Ikari Warriors came out!
@@LyonsArcade IKARI was a great first OVERTLY unique foray from SNK but i always preferred the precision shooting interface of HEAVY BARREL when these two were in comparison
This, Burgertime, and Ms Pac Man were my favorites
It's a cool game, you never see it anymore though!
ahhh the good ol days of the arcade...thanks was a blast watching you struggle a little with this....jump jump slow down shoot shoot jump dang!
Thanks for watching Shawn!
The music from this game stuck with me all these years...
Found one of these in a thrift store that didn't work. Took it home and cleaned the insides and found a blown fuse. Replaced and worked great. Paid all of about $35 for it at the time.
Great deal on that one!
Have never ever even seen nor heard of this game❕ I'm excited, here we go‼️®™️
wow, I remember working at the mall, Christmas 1982. I must have put a thousand quarters in this game back then; almost got fired from my job for going well over my lunch breaks playing this game!
This may have been the exact same cabinet you were playing, Robby!
I would love an aracde...a few cabs sitting in a room. One day, one day.
Loved this game 👍
It was definitely something else!
@@LyonsArcade it was...but addictive, sooooooo much fun but all the games did skint us out🤣👍
you know one thing i watch your videos so much i can't get enough of your vids
Glad to hear it! See you on the next video.
Brings back memories. Thanks for posting this.

Great video!
Thanks Silly Sausage!
nice love me some moon patrol great game
yup it's got it all!
I remember this fondly. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching Chris!
yeah man "now we are talking" :D
I played that machine so much in my young years ... 100's of Deutsch Makrs fall into it ...
I was so happy to get the game one day for my Atari 2600 and later for the C64 (yes, right, the game play is not the same like on the real Arcade. But we had our fun ;) )
It's a pretty cool game, I love the cabinet too, lots of people still ask about the mighty Moon Patrol :)
It was pretty common practice back then for companies like Williams, Bally and Midway to purchase the license for a game and distribute it in their own cabinet. Midway did the same with Pac-Man which was actually a Namco game. Thanks for another great classic game review.
No problem Chris, we'll see you on the next video!
@@LyonsArcade Thanks Joe, looking forward to it. Love those classic arcade games. Semper Fi !
I never played this game much, but I used to enjoy watching others play at the arcades as a teen back in the 1980s. I used to wonder if there were any cars on the road that resembled the moon vehicle in the game, maybe some 4 wheel drives back in the day.
Yeah it kind of looks like one of those older dune buggies they used to drive around!
Awesome classic game. I have it loaded onto a Super Retro-cade and play it just about every time I fire it up. It's a "must have" for just about any retro gaming enthusiast for sure. Thanks for rescuing another classic game and sharing it with us buddy, Semper Fi!
Thank you Chris, Semper Fi buddy!
The cabinet is more important then the game bro!
O.K.!
Great tour of the machine and game, thanks! This does look fun. I had the Atari 2600 version back in the day, good but somehow it wasn't as robust lol.
cool game moon patrol arcade
Very fun!
Classic indeed. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks Chad!
Seeing this cab under a black light sets it off.
I'll bet so with those colors!
Neat video, never seen a actual arcade version. Have it on my atari, the only version I've ever known.
muito bom meu amigo !
Thank you Friend!
The video game graphics are different. That's what I've already realized. IREM is originally the company that created this video game. I also realized that the video games cabinet side art is in bad need of repair. It's how to keep it from getting old. All video games have no pause button, headphone jacks, or volume control. 🎧 😳 😕 🤩 😳
Cool. I have gotten 3 mp cabs over the years all with conversions in them. I have one now with Rastan in a mp cab. But have yet to find a mp lol
All the Williams stuff got converted because the cabinets were so nice the operators loved putting kits in them. The cabs being plywood made the last forever.
We're trying to settle a Facebook debate on whether this game, which has a horizontal resolution of 240, is horizontal or vertical. Is the monitor rotate 90 degrees? It appears from a close-up around the 8:10 mark that the scanlines are vertical, meaning the game is vertical, but obviously the game aspect ratio appears to be 4:3, or horizontal. Any enlightenment here? Thanks! =)
Sure, it's definitely a horizontal game, the monitor is in the cabinet horizontally, but it is a little narrow. A few games back in the day kind of sent an almost square image out of the gameboard to the monitor, this is one of them. WWF superstars is another one that comes to mind... and Double Dragon. They're just not very wide so it doesn't look like the traditional 4:3
Excellent, thank you. Perhaps the phosphors aligned vertically because it was a Trinitron or the like. The game does suit horizontal gameplay. The 240 res is a red herring for this game it would seem.
I find the side-art something 1950s Forbidden planet , bit out of place for 80s cool front ,you also think all lunapark cabinets stood in row side by side so couldn't see it , only major attract games stood solo
Yeah it's a little different than what they were going for, I believe it was because they wanted to stencil the cabinets like they were doing their pinballs at the same time, so for instance the sideart for Bubbles is also kind of off but over time people have come to enjoy it.
I played this game on Atari 2600. The arcade version had better graphics though. Art work is sweet. Thanks Joe great video!
Thanks David!
David Lewis Yes! canyes!
extra in the movie karate kid lol.
"Plywood is good". Yes it is. What's the thickness of the ply on that? 7/16", 0.5", 3/4", or 1"? Someone needs to document all this stuff for accurate recreations.
It's 3/4" on almost all arcade games, the Nintendo stuff is a weird plywood covered in laminate that's 9/16ths (counting the laminate)
I wish you were in omaha
Maybe one day!
I loved this game in the arcade but was so dissapointed with the 2600 version.
Some of those 2600 games they just slapped together, that one must have been a one weeker.
The 2600 version is actually very good for the hardware!
Are the pcb and Mame colors the same?
I'm not positive, but I might have had them adjusted different on the monitor or something. On an arcade monitor you have to set each red green and blue level individually.
Was williams associated with Motorola the W symbol is very similar to Motorola
They weren't they just both made the same logo! Thanks for watching Nigel!
@@LyonsArcade thanks joe im in Ireland and i played so many of these games as a child great to see them still in existence and people like yourself keeping them in working order
Funny how a "W" and an "M" look so close. It's like which letter came first and ripped off the other one?
