    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_Patrol
Moon Patrol (ムーンパトロール Mūn Patorōru?) is an arcade game by Irem that was first released in 1982. It was licensed to Williams for distribution in North America.
The player controls a moon buggy, viewing it from the side, that travels over the moon's surface. While driving it, obstacles such as craters and mines must be avoided. The buggy is also attacked by UFOs from above and tanks on the ground. Moon Patrol was one of the earliest side-scrolling shooters and is credited for the introduction of parallax scrolling in side-scrolling video games -- although Jump Bug featured it first.
    Gameplay
The player takes the role of a Luna City police officer assigned to Sector Nine, the home of the "toughest thugs in the galaxy."
The top portion of the screen shows a timeline-style map of the current course, and three indicator lights. The top light indicates upcoming enemy aerial attacks, the middle one indicates an upcoming minefield, and the bottom one indicates enemies approaching from behind.
The map shows five different checkpoints labeled E, J, O, T and Z. Similar to racing games, the time spent during between each checkpoint is compared to the average which determines the number of bonus points allocated to the player. The game contains two courses, the regular and champion course; after completing the first course your buggy's color changes from pink to red and the game continues on.

What impresses me about so many VCS/2600 ports is how well they were refined and tweaked, to make the gameplay really good. Not too difficult, but with the feel of the arcade. Smooth, playable, fun; it must have been so much work to get the games just right before release. Good game!

C=64 and TI-99 have better sound.

Expanded cut scenes and music, stunning graphics and a battery backed cartridge that saves high score and level times. Look it up, you'll see what I mean. It easily beats the arcade version.

Great compare vid as always, but as you've sometimes done in the past, this one could use an update...hmmm a 5th Anniversary Update?? One of the best ports of this game was released recently, and VERY much deserves to be compared to the rest.
That would of course be the Vectrex version "Vector Patrol" from Kristof Tuts (aka Tutstronix) Unbelievable attention to detail, faithful gameplay, non-volatile high score save on cartridge, and a 3D record-breaker cut-scene that the coders of the arcade originals would salivate over.
I know your video pre-dates the game by half a decade, but it really should get a late-date addition to your fine work.

@@scottbreon9448 LOL - we must have lived on different planets. Everyone that I knew had Apple computers. They used them for games. Their hi-res graphics mode had 6 colors, which was very good at the time. When I bought my Atari 400 the only documentation was that it could only put 4 colors on the screen at the same time. When the doc's finally came out and people could see to excellent graphics it could do, the Apple became a business computer.
BTW - The Atari 800 could make a superior business / educational computer than the Apple. It ran 80% faster and it could put a 40K program into a 16K cartridge leaving 32K ram for the program. It's not as if by magic the Apple was somehow better just because it had an Apple logo on it.

It may sound like a stupid question, but have you made sure your brightness dial in the back is turned up?
I forget how dim the screen can get with it turned down all the way, but possibly just a blank screen. Worth a try.
