To be honest mate. In 2009 the RAF was booming. Recently, it is a terrible place to be. Managers and the generation have changed it so it isn't about the people anymore, it's about themselves. People are being promoted for things outside of work, not for their actual job in their respective roles. There is a massive lack of manning, in most trades and this is due to people leaving voluntarily because all the benefits are being taken away. Going away is fantastic, the officers are great and they're trying to make changes, but it is poor because people will not let go of the past and use the 'back in my day' line. What doesn't help is there's no way to check that people are going with the times. So it actually doesn't change. Another thing about people doing stuff only for themselves. Bases fight eachother. Officers want to impress saying 'i have sorted out our problem' but this is due to the fact they shift it somewhere else, and if the SNCO's are 'Yes men' you screwed because they'll take jobs on from other units to look good infront of people, the officer will look good but the JNCO's and below get fucked over. As someone who is interested in the Cyberspace role. Would you happen to know what your score was to pass to get into the role? Looking to know what to purely focus on. Thanks.
Luke Fowler hi, I wouldn’t recommend just focusing on one section. Revise, do the test and if your aptitude capability is to the level of the role you have applied for then it is meant to be. I understand how you must be feeling. I’ve applied for medic so I’m hoping my aptitude is good enough to pass for that. But I’m pretty sure for a cyber space role it will focus heavily on numerical and verbal reasoning. Every role has different weighting’s on different sections so it won’t really have much benefit
@@mrxbox007og most likely verbal, numerical, memory and work rate. But don’t limit your self. The mechanical and electrical sections are quite challenging if you haven’t practised and it will help with your overall score
I did my CBAT test today. I was so close to passing for Air Traffic Control Seargant. But I just came short. Not sure if I should wait a year or do something else
Overall around the 70-80 score mark, there are two cyberspace jobs, one is partially qualified one is fully qualified main difference is one requires less points, you also need to have a certain amount of points in each section of the test

Hiya bro wondering if you can help me, I have always really struggled with maths. Thanks for any help mate.
When you complete the test you'll be told your scores. These scores will then dictate what roles will be open to you. For example, if you want to be a chef, you may not need as high a score as someone wanting to be a weapons technician. So if you score too low for your role, you can do it again.

@Elvito any tips for me bro. As I have mine next week and need a high score as hoping for avionics technician
Hey man, hope you are well, my basic training starts on 25th jan, would you recomend and boots to purchase?
Do they not supply them?
What did you wear to it mate?
Just a suit and tie, anything from some smart pants with a white shirt and tie is fine
Hi mate , the link you provide, which is the best one for purchase? The book or the online one?
I have bought both, i Reccomend the online one more, it has more material and instant feedback when you finish it.
James Lawson thanks mate 👌🤟
Around what score do you need for a pilot, is it higher or lower than average
Pilot is one of the highest, its also on a different test i believe
Got my AST next Thursday, I've been doing lots of revision and mock exams. Hope I pass 🙏
How did you do?
@@joachimoyalegan6573 Just got my results today, failed unfortunately. Hoping next time (10th November) I'll pass 🙏
what was involved in the background check for the role of a pilot?
Im not sure, i didnt apply for that role
Did you use any specific online websites to revise for your AST? My AST is on Thursday and I don't know what to revise
I have some resources in the video description
Do we get any pen or extra paper for doing some calculation in the AST?
Hi guys, I’m also an applicant in the process of joining the Royal Air Force.
I’ll be covering the entire application process on my channel too, which I think may interest some of you.
I posted my first video regarding the DAA, and I’d appreciate it if you could let me know if it has been helpful.
Thank you, Vivek
Can any one help, I got turned away from the army as I had a skin condition when I was younger which doesn’t affect me now. RAF says you can enter as long as you don’t have an active skin condition. Has any one had an experience like this?
Is the test and interview on the same day
As someone who is interested in the Cyberspace role.
@@l-jy2653 do you know roughly what a RAF police officer would focus on
@@mrxbox007og most likely verbal, numerical, memory and work rate. But don’t limit your self. The mechanical and electrical sections are quite challenging if you haven’t practised and it will help with your overall score
Hey James I applied to become an RAF Police officer, but I'm worried as I suck with maths, any tips?
And would you know the rough score mark for an RAF police Officer?
I did my CBAT test today. I was so close to passing for Air Traffic Control Seargant. But I just came short. Not sure if I should wait a year or do something else
Hey joe is the CBAT different from the AST? And how difficult was it?
you said you struggled with the numerical parts of the test the most, what’s your maths like grade wise?
How many marks do you need to be a cyberspace communications specialist?
Overall around the 70-80 score mark, there are two cyberspace jobs, one is partially qualified one is fully qualified main difference is one requires less points, you also need to have a certain amount of points in each section of the test
Josh, good luck for whenever your AST comes around! I completed mine as I'm going in for a cyberspace communication specialist as well. Been waiting to have a fitness test but lockdown has hindered me a bit. Complete the AST, interview and medical. Hopefully not too long now. We will all get there.
Best of luck again mate, just remember practice makes perfect
do you know how many marks you need to get a regiment gunner role ?
Gunner requires quite low marks on the test but if you score higher you will still be safe to be one
@@jameslawson3988 Do you know how many marks for chef?
What specifically is different with the Officer CBAT aptitude test?
I don’t see many Officer CBAT revision resources online so if it is different how can I be prepared?
Do you have to be an officer to be a fighter pilot or would that be under airman/airwoman
Yes you do
@@alexadams3851 ok thanks
@@walternelson6258 probably the hardest role to get into in
Sitting my AST today 😬
How was it
Good luck!
James Lawson thankyou
Parmeshwar Singh I want to say it went okay but I don’t get my results till tomorrow so I shall wait till then 😬😬😬😬
L-J Y oh ok let me know how ur results go as I’ll be sitting mine on the 12th
Hi James, is it multiple choice and do you get a set amount of time per question the the video automatically moves on or is it a set time per type of questions? Thanks.
Set time per type of questions mate
I'll be honest, I'm completely terrified that I'll fail immediately. I'm applying for an officer position soon and although I qualify I'm not nearly as qualified as some other applicants who have much higher academic qualifications than me. Would this impact on my chances of getting in?
I wouldn't think about it like that, the officers test is like any other test, you prepare yourself enough and you can beat it! As for the rest of the officer process i dont know much else im afraid
@@jameslawson3988 cheers mate
Hiya bro wondering if you can help me, I have always really struggled with maths. I have my AST in 2 weeks but I am worried I won’t score high on the maths...my questions being, is the assessment designed to see where you’re at academically and what jobs you can apply for, or is it a real exam where if I don’t pass the maths I won’t get through to the next stage in the process? Thanks for any help mate.
When you complete the test you'll be told your scores. These scores will then dictate what roles will be open to you.
For example, if you want to be a chef, you may not need as high a score as someone wanting to be a weapons technician.
So if you score too low for your role, you can do it again.
@@kal5378 thankyou for the help mate. I am wanting join as logistics mover. Hoping I don’t need an amazing score on the maths to get in
@@Deleted11100 well good luck! Come back and let me know how it goes if you can, I'm still waiting for mine to be booked so would love to hear about it
@@kal5378 I’ve just came across this which you may find helpful.
Apparently for logistics you need 5/10 for numerical reasoning, 5/10 on verbal, and 50 on the rest of the test but I’m not too sure what that is. Good luck whatever you go for mate 👍🏼
@@Deleted11100 do you know the scores needed for the role of photographer?
Is the AST the same as CBAT?
I believe not, i have never heard of a CBAT
CBAT is the computer based aptitude test completed in RAF cranwell. Where as the airman’s selection test is completed in your local AFCO
Hello mate quick question the mocks are on the computer however is the ast done in Paper or screen ? And do you know
Roughly what score you need in it for regiment gunner ?
For the real test it will be on paper, as for regiment gunner the score is lower than the majority of jobs, it is a more attainable role so you will be guaranteed to get it as long as you keep practicing. Good luck 👍
Hello James it me again. So I attempted the AST and sadly couldn't get the required score as I got very low score in Electrical and memory test. Can you please advise how can I best prepare for memory test first part? Is there any trick to remember those letters. I am really sorry if this sounds a stupid question but I am really worried at the moment because I have got the resit in few weeks time and the only thing letting me down is the memory test. Any help/ advise will be greatly appreciated.
He’s got resources in the description or google the question
I applied waiting but am dyslexic so these maths and English things gunna be hard any advice plus did not do a GCSE paper
Just download a aptitude test app and it will train you on how to answer the questions just practice in the app Everyday
What role did you apply for
Good on my fitness but terrible on maths English 😅
I've been in the RAF for 13 years as TG 4 ICT need any help give me a shout all the best to you buddy
Hi mate, I've just been given a start date at Halton for cyberspace communication specialist, (ICT Tech) I'd love to know how difficult phase 2 at cosford was in your opinion, and whether or not you get weekends off at phase 2?
@@STELIOS1000000 the instructors are very good a large amount are civvies there is a disiplinary expectation as you would expect in the military but if you stay on top of the essentials and look after your course buddys you will be fine. I found cisco hardest when I went through but the course is more streamlined to that side of the trade these days.
