Great truck buddy. You cleaned everything but the dashboard!!!! That drove me crazy, couldn’t see the gauges. XL shirt…lol looks like this was a good decision for a service truck. Thanks
My dad ran a small fleet of s-series trucks. We still have three left - all 85’s; one 1600 and two 1900’s. The 1900’s have true 10-speeds. I do not like the 5+2 setup as the gears are too far apart when you shift. You can turn them up to get them to run. From the factory they were detuned pretty hard hence why they last literally forever. I wouldn’t think twice about running one of those trucks all day every day. They are the toughest medium duty trucks in my option - new or old. Also they are surprising good on fuel - dad could squeeze out 14mpg’s.
Hmm, I saw 83.244, tho you said 39.7 & it read 37.07... & Early on ya said you were giving shirts, lol. That could get expensive. Have you ever thought about the cell boosters with an external antenna? I used them for years, sure gives ya some major range between towers, they're around $250 & can be set up to move between vehicles... Safe travels !
"So loud, that you had to put ear plugs in" that's funny, no disrespect meant. That newer Pete has "Softened you up" them S models ain't that loud in the cab !!! Reason I laugh is cause I love all S-models, your's is no exception. What a cool looking old truck you have there !! Thanks for taking us along for the ride !!!
You burned about 100 gallons. I had a S2155 with the DT466B (210 HP) mechanical. 5 / 2 tranny / Diff. Take a look at the two main 1" bolts in the rear suspension. Probably loose and will rattle. Watch for oil in the cooling system. Oil cooler or head gasket. Don't ask how I know these things!:) Great durable truck but without much for creature comforts. You're right about the air ride seat!!:)
I could have sat and watched from the shoulder camera the whole trip. Terrific post, except it was a GREAT idea, an adventure like this is something everyone should experience. Ok, maybe most everyone I should have said. Also, if you don't have a funnel, pour from jugs with the opening up.
I always punched holes in the bottom of the filters to let ‘em drain. Also I’d love a shirt or pen. Technically for fuel usage you filled up to start then used 61.61 gallons. A fill up at the the end will tell you the true usage. For the vid you put in a total of 83.21
Vintage? You must be a young whippersnapper lol Early 1900s to the 30's would be vintage I do believe. Maybe a classic? lol Defiantly could use some tinted windows and polish those rims and a nice exhaust stack, would be a sharp setup for sure. Just poking fun. Thats a nice find wish I had one but on a 1ton SD scale though. Thanks For Sharing Thumbs Up!
My dad is a mobile mechanic who contracts with usfs and calfire. He said a fire engine or a water tender come out to the fire he was at in northern California from Maine or Massachusetts. It was 4 guys in a 1700 load star with the 345 gas engine
I have an 85 S1900. Pretty much same setup. Except I have a 13 speed. They get surprisingly decent fuel mileage. Runs along about 2700 rpm at 72 mph. They run forever.
Shame on you - you know there are people that will scream when they see you putting oil in the filter like that since "it can be contaminated or dirty" - even though you just opened a new container to pour it out of 😆.
ITs not about the dirt, The only reason I know this is because it happened to my buddy, a piece of the glue they use to glue the filters together got sent in the motor since it was unfiltered and caused HAVOCK . So its not from the oil.. Its either pieces from the new filter or debris .. etc .. But to each their own. We all have our own ways of doing things.. Thats why were human and this is a game of LIFE. :)
@@gthesuperman903 The glue blocked it up. it was unfiltered oil, and the GLUE from the filter on the inside came loose. Always a watchable video from you so thank you.. OK a strange thing I have noticed before, here In the UK Diesel pumps are black while "petrol" (gas) is green, confused? each side of the pond newbies will be I guess... Our "petrol" is 2 types of rubbish only now, E5 or E10, while Diesel Is as common in cars and light trucks as gas-powered versions, and most of our 4 x 4`s are diesel powered so need nice clean non-truck stop areas to refuel.. I buy mostly diesel Landrovers myself but now we have no choice but to use pump diesel with %10 OR MORE Bio diesel added into it. Anyway, look forwards to more content videos..Last but not least, 100 miles of No mans land can be a cold place If broken down, CB still works as we get Americans when the "Skip" Is HIGH, on our home base CB here In Coastal North Essex UK, why did/ do others not use them in No man's land type areas? Add some of that dynamat sound dealing to the cab might be the way to go ..cant wait to see this thing cleaned up and working again keep going with your vids they're good to watch
The vibration can be the drive shaft where the bolts around the rear axle to the transmission bolts as well they may be a bit loose on them and they need to be checked out on your pretrip lists
Everything you did I couldn't believe you didn't clean the dash or inside of the windows ... lol my ocd kicked in enjoyed the video glad the trip went well
You and @Caseyladelle need to learn the difference between Burns and Hines. They are two separate cities... Where you guys always fuel up is Hines, not Burns... The "border" is the traffic light by Big R, Shell and the High School... Love watching your videos! You need to do another one with the Peterbilt that you got from the mine...
Boy you had good timing! Burns got nailed good by a snow storm on wendsday night. I went through thursday morning and it seemed like the whole town was out plowing the roads. Spent 5 hours from mcdermitt to bend dealing with snow on the roads
I Dont like priming oil filters..... ITs unfiltered oil going directly into the engine. My friend had a lot of trouble with his motor by doing so. A little piece of glue in the filter from when it was made ended up blocking up somewhere and the filter could not filter it since it was pre filtered oil.
Dude I would totally sport your shirt! I sent your channel to some of my CAT buddies to start watching. They were impressed with your parts yard and ware house.
I would guess you used around 60 gallons for the trip, did you fill them at the end to get a close idea because you did not fill both tanks at the beginning unless you did off the video? Glad you made the trip safe. That will be a really nice truck, not fast but it will last. Be safe Sir.
Big tool trucker now. 46.61 gallons. Last civilization and you didn't stop to get a burger 🍔 n 🍟 plus one for the road 🛣️. Luck to you. Stop at Anchor brand Ranch. Pickaboo valley. Cheers 🥂

Is the red button not for speed select on the rear axle? I'm not a trucker by any definition but we had big trucks on the farm when I was a kid. The 5 ton dumptruck we had had a two speed rear end.
83 gallons aint to shaby for a big old diesel motor. and truck that weighs a ton plus a heavy load. Cme thru this route three weeks ago, Not bad but your right there is spotty cell coverage and limited services.
Was a great idea when you said it the other day onthe other video when you bought the tires, Great video,is there a link to get a shirt ? 211 gallons of diesel
It looks like you used about 83.245 gallons of fuel and got some pretty decent fuel milage. How old did you say the truck was? My father used to have one kinda similar to it, but with a different front rear I think.
No you're not supposed to fill the filters the air pressure may cause the regulator to stick in the open position then you will have lack of oil pressure

Check tank vents. Sounded like driver side had vacuum when you opened it. If vent is plugged up it won't pull from both tanks.

@@Failure_Is_An_Option yep single speed rear with a 613 transmission

Stick with halogen incandescent. Bright white LEDs suck and are blinding at night
I like prefilling the oil filters, unfortunately all my current vehicles all have horizontal filters.
They're made horizontal to cause more wear to the engine from more time without oil pressure
@Ruben Braekman
I doubt it, as these engines all have a lot of miles on them, and don't burn oil.
@@mahbriggs that's what I think with lots of modern engines anyway... creating a short product life and throw away society
